New Session / Which Part Of Code Should Post.Clicking A Button In The Browser on The App

Jan 20, 2011

C#, .NET 4

My webapplication starts a new session at a point, where there is no reason.For the moment I even don't know, which part of code I should post.Clicking a button in the browser on the app, everything is ok for the first time.Clicking it a second time, the new session begins.

What could be the reason for this behavior? Perhaps after an answer I can better determine, what lines of code I need to show you.

"Rendering" Page For The First Time After After Clicking Browser "Back" Button?

May 13, 2010

I was finally able to expire a page in both Firefox 3 and IE7, so that when the user clicks on "Back", I'll either get a message from the browser saying that it needs to connect to the server to reload the page (FF3), or simply display the "Webpage has expired" message (IE7). So both browsers retrieve it from the server.

Unfortunately, it will refresh the last copy the browser has in the cache. In my case, the last copy displays a ton of data that does not exist anymore since the process' lifecycle was already completed. I need the browser to display the webform as if it the user went there for the first time.

I believe that for all purposes, clicking "Resend" in Firefox (when hitting "Back") is the same as pressing F5 in IE7 when the "Webpage has expired" page is displayed, which is basically a page postback.

MVC :: When Post The New Author Asyn Could Somehow Tell That Part Of The Page To Update?

Jun 20, 2010

Not sure how to solve this problem so thought I would ask here, as always.Scenario:I have a page where you can add a book review. But for each book, you can have multiple authors from the list available in the database.To add a new author for a book, you post to a separate action. when you do this, this page refreshes, shows all the authors you have added for this book, but loses the information in the other form fields.

If I posted the authors using Ajax, they would be added to my list, and my form controls would be fine, but then the part of the page that displays the authors currently added would not be updated to show the new author.I'm thinking maybe I can make the added authors a partial view and when I post the new author asyn I could somehow tell that part of the page to update.

MVC :: Webgrid Not Showing In Browser After Clicking A Heading To Sort By?

Mar 19, 2011

I am using a Webgrid as part of an MVC 3 app. The weird thing is the first display of the page with the grid displays fine but when I click on a heading to sort, the grid is not displayed as part of the page when I am running under the web server provided by the VS 2010 installation. When I do a View Source of that page, all of the grid stuff (as table elements) is there to be displayed. It just does not show up in the browser. So, I wrote the html to a file and copied the javascript and css files to the same folder and then ran the file under IE and everything displays as it should.

Web Forms :: Button OnCommand Not Firing Inside A Gridview...because Of Session Code?

Apr 23, 2010

I've got a button inside the gridview that isn't firing the onCommand, ONLY when I uncomment some seemingly unrelated code having to do with session in the page load.

Markup:

[Code]....

Code Behind:

[Code]....

Now here is the odd thing. If I comment out the If Not Session block in the page_load....it works and deleteUser will fire upon a button click. If I leave it uncommented as now.....it won't work.

The weird part is when I step through the code in debug, upon clicking the remove button, it still registers that as being clicked and runs page_load, etc again. But won't run deleteUser.

State Management :: Session Variable Persisting Even After Abandoning A Session - Closing Browser Windows

Aug 5, 2010

I have been spending a better part of a week trying to track down why I am not able to clear all session variables in a web app (vs 2010, vb.net). What I have tracked it down to is that when I remove or abandon sessions that my html pages or codebehind access, it works, but for some reason in any of my class files where I use "Public Shared strConnection as String = HttpContext.Current.Session("strConnection").ToString" to access a session variable, it finds the old one and not the current one. I have to wait for it to time out, go in again, and it will find the new one.

I do not use Linq, and there is only one place in the whole web app that I place the connection string in a variable whcih is when a person logs in. It points them to the correct database. The sqlconnection is set for all of my listviews in Page_Init to make sure that they aren't using any session variable that they create on their own. Interestingly enough that if I use debug to go in each time, exit debug, enter debug again trying to access a different database, it works correct each time. I assume that debug is correctly killing the session variable for the classes for me.

Button Re-appear Immediately After Clicking Button In ListView Row?

Mar 12, 2010

I have 4 buttons on a page. Each button opens a modal window and let's the user input data in a form. When the user hits the save button in the modal, a ListView appears on the page with the submitted data.

The button the user clicked to open the modal window is set to visible=false, so it's gone when the row is added to the ListView. Now there are 3 buttons and the same goes for those; when the user hits a button, a modal appears, and when the modal form is submitted, the button disappears and a row is added to the ListView.

In the ListView row, there is a delete button. When this button is clicked, the row is deleted and the button that was initially clicked to add this row (and open the modal), SHOULD reappear, but it doesn't. The row disappears, but I have to refresh the page before the button comes back. There is a ScriptManager on the masterpage, so I guess this is an AJAX partial refresh issue. I tried adding different events, but I can't find the one that fires at the right time.

I use an ObjectDataSource to fill the ListView, and the data comes from a database, wrapped in a business object.This code loads a business object in a List<> and checks if the user inserted an item of a specific type. If he did, the button he used to open the modal is hidden. This works fine (maybe not the most elegant)

_goals = GoalManager.GetGoalsByUser(UserID);

if (_goals != null)
{
foreach (Goal _goalinlist in _goals) [code]...

As you can see, I tried setting a boolean, and then check it when the page is re-loaded. But the problem (I guess) is that the whole page isn't refreshed when the delete button is clicked in the ListView.

This is the delete button in the ListView:

<asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton2" runat="server" CommandName="Delete" CausesValidation="false"
ToolTip="Delete" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("GoalID")%>' ImageUrl="delete.gif"
OnClientClick="return confirm('Delete this post?');" CssClass="button"/>

I guess the question is, how do I make the button re-appear right after the ListView button is clicked?

Web Forms :: Shows Two Button Instead Of One When Clicking On Button

Aug 17, 2010

I have this issue i have been looking at for a while and cant seem to figure it out. I have two ddl's on my page and a InsertCommand from sqldatasource. My InsertCommand is actually updating the foreign key of the two ddl's in another table. When i click on my button it shows two numbers instead of one. The challenging thing now is that i have

DDLName.Items.RemoveAT("itemName.SelectedIndex")

after the insert so it would not duplicate what i am updating. If i take this statement out of my code. it updates well as in showing the one record that was updated. if i put it back in there it shows two records where updated. I tested my sql statement and its working fine meaning it shows only one record is updating.
