Override The OnLoad Of The Class That The .aspx Is Directly Inheriting From?
Jan 19, 2010
If I'm writing in-line code on a .aspx page is it possible to override the onLoad of the class that the .aspx is directly inheriting from? Right now if I do the override the base.onLoad inline on the .aspx page it is overriding the "Page" object's onLoad event not the class the .aspx is inheriting from.

I have this Control directive in a usercontrol (i've changed the namespace and class name):
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" Inherits="Namespace.Path.To.ClassName" %>
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtComment" TextMode="MultiLine" ValidationGroup="comment" />
ClassName is a class that lives in a class library and this is the class:
namespace Namespace.Path.To
{
public class ClassName : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox txtComment;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(txtComment == null);
HttpContext.Current.Response.End();
}

I've written a class that inherits from DataControlField. I did that so I can add a custom column to my gridview. The datasource of my gridview is a SQLDatasource. I now need to get the datatype of each field in my custom class e.g string, boolean, int etc.

First off, I am wondering if this is possible. I read slight grumblings around the internet about this, but I was not entirely sure.
My scenario: I have a base chart class which has some methods which all charts should have.
public partial class BaseChart : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
public BaseChart()
{
}
public void ToggleLegend()
{
Chart1.Legends[0].Enabled = !Chart1.Legends[0].Enabled;
}
}
There is also some mark-up for this BaseChart -- setting background colors, etc. All charts which inherit BaseChart should use this starting mark-up and be able to build upon it.
I would then like to do this:
public partial class HistoricalLineChart : BaseChart
{
public HistoricalLineChart()
: base()
{
public HistoricalLineChart(int reportID)
: base()
{
Chart1.Titles[0].Text = "Hello World";
}
}
where HistoricalLineChart is a web user control with no mark-up e.g. "HistoricalLineChart.ascx"
The problem is that Chart1 is undefined when in HistoricalLineChart's scope. Is there something that I am missing here?

I have this javascript
function myFunction(source) {
window.open(source, "Title", 'width=400, height=400');
}
and in c# code I call it by
HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("myFunction", source);
which opens up a aspx page and goes to its OnLoad function:
protected override void OnLoad(System.EventArgs e)
{
base.OnLoad(e);
how do I pass in parameters to the event args in the aspx page? or is that even possible? and how can I pass these parameters from my c# code to the javascript?

In an .aspx page with the vb.net codebehind i am using IFRAME , which would be created inside the repeater control. Since i want to resize the IFRAME based on the content within the page i have been using the resize function Obtained from here on the IFRAME onload as shown below.
<iframe id="IframeSubsectionArea" scrolling="auto" width="100%" onload="resizeIframeToFitContent(this)" runat="server">
However it is throwing the error as the method could not be found in the form. Is there any client side script variant for the onload event? May i know,What might be the reason for the error and its solution?

am currently working on a web application, whereby I want to add code to the Application_BeginRequest method of the Global.asax file, without adding code to the Global.asax file, which sounds a little crazy, let me explain a bit more.If anyone has ever developed in sitecore before, they would have seen that the Global.asax file has empty methods, however it has 'using Sitecore;' and the global.asax file provided does not inherit from System.Web.HttpApplication.

When I do server side soap service programming, I create proxy classes first using some xsd schemas.
Xsd schemas are already defined by another company.my problem is these schemas have master xsds and child xsds which means on master xsds there are references to child xsds.
In this case I have 2 different questions.
1) Is it possible to use xsd schemas directly to build soap service without generating proxy classes.
2) If it is not possible, I am using vs command prompt by typing xsd /c /l:vb nameofmasterfile.xsd
but while there references to child xsds, I am getting an error msg. thats why I had to flatten these xsds in the past. Is it possible to generate all classes in one shot. any external program also ok.

I have a class object which is basically kind of hierarchy and looks like this when I convert that to XML.
[Code]....
So you can see that I have "objectComponent" which is kind of hierarchy and that hierarchy can be upto any level.
Now I need to update <quantity> value where <sku> = "SKU 2", remember this <sku> can be anywhere in hierarchy, so I need to update its <quantity> value where <sku> = "SKU 2".
So my question is how can I update that value using Linq query and specifically, I need that value to be updated in the actual object itself because I need to pass that updated object for furthur process.
In my c# code, there is only one class named "ObjectComponent" and that has all of these properties and "objectBundle" as array and the whole hierarchy starts from there.
how can I update value in this object directly?

I'm trying to make the conversion to Selenium 2, but I seem to have an issue were if I go to http://website.com, Selenium cant find the elements of my aspx form. I need to have Selenium go directly to http://website.com/form.aspx. This isnt horrible because I can make sure the forms work, but ideally I would like it to complete everything from the users point of view.

I have hosted my project in the remote server. i pasted all the dlls & all the necessary files into inetpub->wwwroot ->httpdocs->(pasted all files). In the server we have .net framework 3.5 and IIS 6.0
Now I just want to check whether my files are running locally on the server. So I did the following. Just opened the IIS, made the httpdocs folder as a virtual directory. And then I clicked the httpdocs.It displayed all the files it has in the right side pane. Then I right clicked the default.aspx and then I clicked browse. Now the browser opened with the URL http://localhost/httpdocs/default.aspx. But I could not able to see the aspx page.It just shows "The page is not found"
But when I tried the same steps for opening a .html page it works fine (http://localhost/httpdocs/test.html) I can able to view the html pages.
Whether I need to configure anything on the IIS.... What should I do to view the .aspx files

My UI layer calls my business layer which populates a DTO. I need to display properties from the DTO on my ASPX page. Should I create public variables on the code behind page for each of the DTO properties and reference like <%=PublicPropertyName%> OR is it ok to set the DTO instance to public and reference the properties directly like <%=dtoInstance.propertyName%>
Additionally, would it be better if I just created Literal and Label controls for every item on the ASPX page and just populate them from the code behind only?

I have a 'classic' ASP.NET app (.NET 3.5) with a pretty standard runat="server" style form with server-side controls and an 'Execute' asp:button. In the code-behind, the executeButton_click handler processes some of the other controls, runs a report, and drops the result into an asp:label. So the effect of pressing the Execute button is that the entire page reloads with the report inserted into the label.
I need to change this so that when the Execute button is pressed, the report pops up in a new window with a different layout (ie without the controls and form). If I was doing this in an MVC framework I would just change the view template in the 'execute' action, so the analogue for ASP.NET would be change the code in front, ie the .aspx file that gets used, from the code-behind class.
Is this possible? I know the link between the .aspx and the .aspx.cs isn't extremely tight as it is possible to reuse a code-behind class in multiple .aspx files. So can I set the .aspx file to render from the code-behind?

I've written a ServerControl that contains a significant amount of javascript, and I'm using IScriptControl to pass parameters from the server code to the javascript. The javascript file is configured as an embedded resource, and a script reference to the file is being injected into the html by IScriptControl.GetScriptReferences(). The ServerControl is contained in a DLL assembly. When I use the control in a test page everything works fine.
What I want to do is to extend the control - to derive a new control from it, in a second assembly, that provides some extended functionality. (The first assembly contains code that is shared across customers, the second code that is shared across several projects for the same customer). So, my problem: I create a new ServerControl that derives from the first, but doesn't yet provide any new functionality.
[Code]....
Then I change my "<%@ Register ... %>" tag in the test page to reference the derived control. Things compile just fine, and the code-behind runs fine, but I get an undefined variable error in javascript. Sys.Application.add_init() is calling $create(), passing the <namespace>.<classname> of the javascript class, and it's throwing an error on the namespace.
Now, the namespace is registered on the first line of javascript file. Which makes it look like the javascript file might not be being included, when using the derived control. So I stuck a "debugging" line in front of the Type.registerNamespace(). Using the base control, the debugger breaks as it should. Using the derived control, it does not.
So, I look at the script includes in both versions of the page. They are identical. The sources are src="/testing/WebResource.axd?<random junk>", or src="/testing/ScriptResource.axd?<random junk", so I'm not sure which one refers to my embedded javascript file, but whichever one it is, the includes are identical between the page using the base control that works and the page using the derived control that does not.
