Pass An Anonymous Array Of Strings To A JavaScript Function?
Apr 5, 2010
I want to pass to an array of controls' IDs to a javascript script function so it will switch control's enable state.
For example, in C# it would be like this:
func(false, new[] { "Control1", "Control2", "Control3" });
In that function I want to find corresponding controls and disable/enable them. For one control I do this next way:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function switchControls(value, arr) {
for (var n = 0; n < array.length; n++)
document.getElementById([n]).disabled = value;
}
</script>
<asp:CheckBox runat="server"
onclick="switchControls(this.checked,
[
'<%= Control1.ClientID %>',
'<%= Control2.ClientID %>'
])"
Text="Take?" />
How to implement this properly? Have I to use jQuery?

What I have is a table that holds 3 input elements, They represent order, name, value. The user can add a new row of 3 inputs to add as many of these sets of data as they want.
To accomplish the dynamically adding in of inputs I use jquery's clone method. That works fine and I am able to iterate through each and grab the values, however the real pain I am having is that when the user has entered in all of the data I want to pass that data to an asp.net page through jQuery's post method. How do I go about passing an array of strings so that I send this format to the asp.net page, and when I've done that how do i parse the data on the asp.net side of it.
Desired Data Format:
["Name|Link|Order", "Name|Link|Order", "Name|Link|Order"]
jquery Code so far:
$("#saveBtn").click(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
$("#addPanel").slideUp(300);
//Perform Save Operation
var saveString = "";
$("#addTable tbody>tr").each(function () {
var o = $(this).find(".hsaorder").val();
var n = $(this).find(".hsaname").val();
var l = $(this).find(".hsalink").val();
saveString += n + "|" + l + "|" + o ;
});
////// Create Array here or some other method?
$.post("/modules/H/Modify.aspx", { OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING GOES HERE});
// Remove all but top table element to return to original state
$("#addTable tbody>tr").not("#addTable tbody>tr:first").remove();
});

I'm trying to call a Page Method using a jQuery 'attached' event function, in which I like to use the closure to keep the event target local, as below, but page method calls declare several 'error' functions, and I would like to use one function for all of them. If, in the below code, I was handling an error and not success, how could I use my single, anonymous handler for all 3 error functions?
$(":button").click(function () {
var button = this;
PageMethods.DoIt(
function (a, b, c) {
alert(button);
});
});
This example passes an anonymous function for the success callback. There is only one of these. If I was passing an error callback, how could I use 'function (e, c, t)' for all 3 error callbacks?
ADDED: What I would like to do here is trigger an AJAX call whenever the user clicks a toggle button (checkbox), but to improve responsiveness, I want to toggle the button state immediately, and only 'untoggle' it if the AJAX call fails.
Now, in my client-side click() event handler, I would like to use anonymous functions inside the scope of click()' so that the functions have access to thethisevent argument, but I don't want to 'declare' three functions for theonTimeout,onError, and 'onAbort arguments of the PageMethods.MyFunction function. if I declare a named function outside of the click handler, it no longer has access to the 'this' parameter of the click() event handler.

how to pass a C# ASP.NET array to a Javascript array? Sample code will also be nice.
Let's say for simplicity that in my aspx.cs file I declare:
int [] numbers = new int[5];
now I want to pass "numbers" to the client side and use the data in the array within javascript. How would I do this?

The first commented line below is working with a hardcoded ApplicantId, and all I need is to make it work by passing the current ApplicantId column on the same gridrow.
I've tried for many days now, and something like the second commented line does not work for me.
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True"
DataKeyNames="ApplicantID" >
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Select">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="CheckBox1" runat="server" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<!-- works -->
<asp:HyperLinkField NavigateUrl="javascript:popUp(3)" Text="Select" Target="_parent"/>
<!-- doesn't work -->
<asp:HyperLinkField NavigateUrl='"javascript:popUp("<%# + DataBinder.Eval(GridView1.DataItem,"ApplicantId") %> + ")"' Text="View" />
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>

Basically, I have a gridview that is opened in a new window from the parent window. It has a bunch of records with a view button to view the details of each record (which stays in the same newly opened window). I have a calendar in the parent window that accepts a Date querystring parameter to set the current date on the calendar at page load. I'm just trying to refresh the calendar in the parent window to match the date of the label in the newly opened window. All the code below is in the newly opened window. The .Net code-behind below refers to when that view button is clicked and everything is populated. At the end, I call the js to refresh the parent window and pass the value of the LabelScheduleDate as the querystring parameter. Now the label comes through as '03/25/2010' in the code-behind, but when I pass it to the js, it comes through as '0.00005970149253731343' in the end querystring. I'm not really sure what is making the value change, and I want to pass it as just text. Do I need to pass it as a string object? I tried but I don't think I was doing it right.
JavaScript Function
function RefreshParent(inputDate) {
window.opener.location = window.opener.location + "?Date=" + inputDate;
}
.NET Code-Behind
Protected Sub RadGridOnlineRequests_ItemCommand(ByVal source As Object, ByVal e As Telerik.Web.UI.GridCommandEventArgs) Handles RadGridOnlineRequests.ItemCommand
If e.CommandName = "ViewOnlineRequest" Then
' populates LabelScheduleDate among other controls values
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript( _
Me, Me.GetType(), "clientScript", "RefreshParent(" & LabelScheduleDate.Text & ");", True)
End If
End Sub

I have the following:
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:Button ID="wrqst_need_ind_btn" runat="server" Text = "Create WR"
onClientClick="javascript:popUp('popup_createWR.aspx')"
CommandArgument='<%# Eval("dvc_nm") + "|" + Eval("data_orgtn_yr") %>'/>
</EditItemTemplate>
I want to pass in as two additional params the Eval("dvc_nm") and Eval("data_orgtn_yr") to the popup function.
UPDATE:
I tried by removing the single quotes from insode the <% %> tags. Which gave me this:
onClientClick='<%# "javascript:popUp(popup_createWR.aspx," + Eval("dvc_nm") + "," + Eval("data_orgtn_yr") + ")" %>'
which complied, but when I clicked the button I did not get a pop up, the page just posted back and reloaded and said errors on page, but no popup...

I have a function that gets the position of a control.
[Code]....
All the function needs is an htmlcontrol being fed to it as the parameter (elemRef). I can declare a variable in Javascript of the same content page but different function and pass the parameter successfullly getting returned values. For example, if I have the following function:
function (getPosition)
{ var txtBox1 = document.getElemendById('<%=txtBox1.ClientID %>');
getPos(txtBox1);
}
I will get the coordinates of the control txtBox1. But how can I accomplish this if I am calling this function from a javascript function or codebehind of the Master Page, or codebehind of the same content Page.

So, I've got an array, filled with data from dynamic input fields. the input fields are PIN, Name and Description... and the user can add as many "sets" of these three fields as they want.
This data goes into an array.
For example, the array may have
11111, Test Name, Test Company
22222, Second Name, Second Company
etc. etc.
I know I can see the values of my array, so if I were to take:
item(0) & ", " & item(1) & ", " & item(2)
my output would be:
11111, Test Name, Test Company
The problem I'm having, is, I need to write ALL of the groupings of three out to a file... and I'm stuck on how to do that. So, I need a way to loop through until the end of the array and get:
item(0) & ", " & item(1) & ", " & item(2)
(enter a line break)
item(3) & ", " & item(4) & ", " & item(5)
...
until the end of the array
I'm guessing I need a for-loop and a counter, but can't get the syntax correct.

I now have two asp.net pages. When I click on a link on page A, I open the other one (let's call it page B). When I do this, I want to send some information from Page A to Page B in the form of an array of strings. This array is different depending on what link I follow on Page A.
I know I could send this information via the URL with the ?string1=bla1&string2=bla2 etc., but I don't want it that way, as it can get complicated if there are too many strings in the array.
I think there is something similar, like a POST in PHP, but how would that be in ASP?

I have a datareader wich return several strings like:
ACTIA -ATSD-PKW-ACTIA-MultiDiag
TEXA -ATS-PKW-Texa-Prime"
MASTER-ATSV-PKW-Master-Master"
The strings are separted by the "-"
The idea is that I split the strings in to several dropdownlist, example:
Dropdownlist 1: (Actia, Texa Master)
Dropdownlist 2: (ATSD, ATS, ATSV)
Dropdownlist 3: (Actia, Texa, Master)
Dropdownlist 4: (MultiDiag, Prime, Master)
The problem is: How should I do this? I've search several hours on the internet but can't find anything about how to split strings from a datareader to several different arrays.
The code:
