Populate A Listbox Or DropDownList Or TextArea By Program?

Jan 13, 2010

I have been trying to populate either a listbox, dropdownlist, or textarea with a large amount of numbers. I can create the list by manually putting in the numbers I want but that is not what I really want to do. There are too many numbers anyway. Is there a way to use maybe an array and a for next loop to put many numbers in a list where you can scroll down and see each item entry.

MVC :: Html.TextArea - Extra Line Break In The TextArea, Just Above The Original Text?

Jul 15, 2010

I'm working with an MVC1.0 web app and I've found a bit of an odd anomaly.

I have a search box on the first page (normal text box) and the input from this is passed through to the ViewData and on to the second page.

On the second page, I render a TextArea with this search input text from the ViewData.

Eg:

[Code]....

The problem is, there is an extra line break in the TextArea, just above the original text.

Stranger still is that if I now submit this page and the view is reloaded (after validation fails) - the original string of text has been trimmed and has no line breaks, but the TextArea now has 2 line breaks above the original text.

This can be repeated - every time the page reloads it has another line break.

It's driving me insane - does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

FYI, you can check it out yourself - on your mobile phone, browse to [URL], punch something in the search box and hit search. You'll notice one line break added the first time the page loads. Then just hit "Find Best Offer" without entering a budget or selecting a category, and you'll see what I mean about the additional line breaks.

How To Populate A Listbox In C# With Values From A Grid

Apr 9, 2010

Hey what i am trying to do is i have a listbox with some simple values in it

1
2
3

and what i want to do is add a value that has multiple values to it...for instance i want a value = All DEV which will represent many values in itself so that once ALL DEV is selected it actually has many different numbers assigned to it. Can this be done? I understand that the value 1 has just one value behind it, same as 2 and 3 but I want the All DEV one to have multiple values behind it such as 5,6,7,8 for clicking just the ALL DEV selection.

Web Forms :: Trying To Populate The Value (s) Of A Listbox That Has Multiple Selections?

Jan 20, 2010

I am trying to populate the value(s) of a listbox that has multiple selections:

Assignment Preference:<br />

<asp:ListBox ID="assignmentPreferenceList" SelectionMode="Multiple" runat="server">

<asp:ListItem Value="">None</asp:ListItem>

<asp:ListItem Value="CONTRACTING">CONTRACTING</asp:ListItem>

<asp:ListItem Value="DIRECT HIRE">DIRECT HIRE</asp:ListItem>

<asp:ListItem Value="CONTRACTING-DIRECT HIRE">CONTRACTING-DIRECT HIRE</asp:ListItem>

</asp:ListBox>

I am using a datareader in code behind to "loop" through the values:

string sql4 = "Select * from assignmentPref where tID=" + (dr["id"].ToString());

SqlCommand comm4 = new SqlCommand(sql4, con3);

SqlDataReader dr4 = comm4.ExecuteReader();

while (dr4.Read())

{

assignmentPreferenceList.SelectedValue = (dr["assignmentPref"].ToString());

}
Works great with 1 assignment preference but with 2 or 3 it craps out.

Populate Dropdownlist From Another Dropdownlist With Objects In MVC 2

Dec 5, 2010

I am trying to develop a simple MVC 2 timesheet application for my small business. I have a sort of mock model for now until I have a database in place, just to make things simpler while I develop the functionality.

[Code]....

But then I need to populate a second dropdownlist (taskDropDownList for the tasks associated with a particular customer) based on the selection the user chooses in the customer dropdownlist. But how do I do this exactly? I have seen examples with jQuery, but I'm not sure how to apply them to this situation. Also, the examples seem to just populate the lists with string values. I need to be able to access the objects with all their properties. Because the next thing I need to do is to be able to populate the TimeSegments list of the selected task with values from input fields (i.e. the hours worked for particular dates). And for that to be saved to the "model" (eventually to the database) in the controller, how do I get it there, unless the objects are all part of the same model bound to the View? I'm on rather thin ice with this since I still find the connection between the View and the Controller hard to handle, compared with e.g. Windows development, where these things are rather easy to do.

Populate DropDownList From WebDataGrid?

Dec 16, 2010

I have a WebDataGrid linked to a SqlDataSource to display data. When a row is selected, I want to populate some textboxes and dropdownlists with the data from that row, for editing purposes. The textboxes work fine; I use the following code to select the second field in the grid (Date) and populate the corresponding textbox (I'm using VB): txtDate.Text = currentRow.Items(2).Value However, when I try to populate the dropdownlists using the same code structure, I get the following error:

'ddlType' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.

I think the problem may be that the dropdownlists are populated using type_id, while the grid displays type_name. Would this be causing the problem, and is there a way to get around this?
