Postback Validation Causes An Alert Dialog To Be Displayed?
Jun 4, 2010
For some strange reason an alert dialog with the text title "Message From Web page" and message "-" displays when posting back a for with validation. There are no custom validation scripts that display an alert window. I am debgging javascript using IE development toolbar? Is it possible to break into the code that displays the alert box? so far I have been unable to do so.
I am using asp.net validation controls in my application. the alert messages are showing in validation summary. now i should change the title(heading) of the alert(message) box.how to do this ?
I am using 4 required field validators,4 regular expression validators and 4 compare validators for 4 text boxes. Is it possible to show error messagesin an alert or message box when validation fails? If possible please send code sample.
I had validate the data when user click save button, an alert box will pop up when error occurs.
[Code]....
But when the user click confirm button, it will auto postback to reload the page that made my page distored (may conflict the css that move to left hand side)I had insert "return false;" in the statement, but it doesn't work.
I have changepass.aspx page that in this page i have 3 textbox and 1 captcha
refer [URL] ....
I want when users enter their data correctly in message box show ="your password update" and if they enter wrong data in messagebox show="please enter oldpassword correctly"
So I use below code
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (Session["Message"] != null) { this.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(GetType(), "Javascript", "<script>alert('Yur password update correctly.')</script>"); Session["Message"] = null; } if (Session["MessageError"] != null) { this.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(GetType(), "Javascript", "<script>alert('please enter old password correctly .')</script>"); Session["MessageError"] = null; }
But when I enter data correct or wrong it didn't show any thing in message box
But when I type some text in Quantity field and press submit button(or change focus for client validation) I receive validation message 'The field My display name must be a number.' It's independent of using client validation scripts. So Why validation message is not displayed?
I have a button Import on my page. Upon pressing this button, a modal popup dialog appears where the user can enter path of the import file. I have a required field validator to make sure the user entered the path. And I have there a Submit button. My problem is that validation happens not only when I press the Submit button on the modal popup, but also when I press any button on the page itself, which is wrong.
I have a JQuery Dialog that is opened when a button is clicked. The first time around, it should do a postback, but when the dialog closes and I click the refresh button of the broswer, it sends the data again and duplicates the data I just entered. Should I add a return false somewhere so it doesn't postback when the dialog is closed. Here is the script:
I have a jQuery UI dialog which has a usercontrol in it, which I get by .load of the page it is in. It is a simple calculator. You pick several numbers and then click a button, a postback happens and finally you get the result in to two lables. When I click the button inside the dialog, the postback happens and I see the result in the original page, not the dialog.
I'm trying to user ValidatorCalloutExtender on my login page but I'm having some trouble with it. I have two TextBoxes, two RequiredFieldValidators and two ValidatorCalloutExtenders. Here's my page's code:
[Code]....
So, my problem is quite simple, I guess. When the user press "ButtonLogin", the first ValidatorCallout is displayed requesting that the user enter his username. The validation text for the password field isn't displayed. If I enter the username and then try to post the form again, the validation text for the password isn't displayed at all. The text is displayed only after I click on TextBoxPassword. Is there any way to solve this? If I wasn't using ValidatorCalloutExtender, text for both validators would be displayed. So, I'm guessing that internally both validators actually trigger. The second isn't displayed because the first one is already been displayed. But even after entering text on the first textbox, the text doesn't come up. I believe it's still thinking that the first validator is been displayed.
i have some time consuming serverside function so i try to execute each function step by step and inform the user about the progress.
So my approach was:
create a visible button that performs an asynchronous postback and handle the click event on serverside execute the first function update a Label to inform the user if the function was executed successfully register a javascript that triggers the click-event of a second invisible(Style="display: none") button that is also registered as asynchronous trigger for the UpdatePanel send page back to client and execute script to click the invisible button handle the button-click, inform user, register js for third invisible button, execute button-click and so on...
But the problem is that the UpdateProgress-control will not be shown although i've set the AssociatedUpdatePanelID correctly. The functions are all triggered correctly and the labels are getting updated, only the UpdateProgress keeps invisible.
This code opens me a dialog box with Ok and Cancel button but it do not wait for user activity and post the page immediately and the label gets populated. I need to call the c# function based on user activity. If user clicks "Ok" label should get populated and if user clicks "Cancel" it should not call the c# function. How do I achieve this?
I have a series of jQuery dialogs that contain ASP.NET form fields. I have a hidden ASP.NET button that is triggered when the user clicks a button in one of the jQuery dialogs. I can enter some data (listboxes and textboxes) and click the button that triggers the hidden button's event (an onClick) and the page will post back.
But, when I put a breakpoint in the onClick event in my codebehind I see that the form fields (reportTypeListBox.SelectedValue, etc.) just have the default values instead of the ones I entered. This happens unless I take the form fields out of the jQuery dialog, then it works perfectly.
I have another jQuery dialog that contains a ASP.NET textbox that is basically doing the same thing (triggering a hidden ASP.NET button with an onClick event) that works properly. The only difference is that its jQuery dialog is not in a seperate javascript function. It's right in the "$(document).ready(function () { }." While, the series of dialogs that are having trouble are in a function called "openDialog(selector)."
I have a form that contains multiple and different input controls .. and I have two types of validation:
This type insures that the user input doesn't violate my application's constraints (required, max length, regExp).. and this is done on the client side using the ASP.NET Validation Controls .. and it's enforced by a server side validation.
This type works on a deeper level, like the database. it check if the entry is duplicate and any other check that can't be done on the UI level.
I use the ValidationSummary control to display the first type's errors, and a label for the second's type errors. I tried to test it with the JavaScript disabled and it worked fine, then I turned the JS back on and *Here comes the problem: *
I first try to raise an error on the db layer (by entering a name that already exists) and the error is displayed on the label and everything is good .. now I try to remove the name from the textbox and press the submit so I could raise a required field validator error the expected output is "This field is required" only but what I see is "the name already exists" and "This field is required".
I think it's because when the ASP.NET RequiredValidator works, it doesn't make a postback, so the database layer will never be validated and won't even get the label cleared!
When the user click on TreeNew button appears the modal dialog, then he/she choose an option an click Ok button to do a postback.I need that the server side execute TreeNew_Click method: How can I do that?
If I use __doPostBack('TreeNew', '') it throws me the following error: "Object expected".
UPDATE:I found the origin for the error: the function __doPostBack is not defined. I'm not going to delete the question because I think Chris Clark's answer is so interesting.
i have a very strange issue with a user control we are dynamically loading on an asp.net web page(.net 2.0). the user control has 3 dropdowns, one of which has a selectedindexchanged event attached to it (which loads the third dropdown with a set of values).
the weird thing is, if there are currently any invalid fields (where field validators have been activated) in other parts of the form, when you go to select the drop down in question on the FIRST change it does nothing, but then when you change the index again it works perfectly! i dont understand how the event wont fire for the first change, but for every change thereafter.
However, if all these fields are filled in correctly above the usercontrol, it fires off the selectedindexchanged event correctly.
in regards to validation i have disabled ALL POSSIBLE validation in order to try and eliminate it as a culprit, so i dont understand how validation can be affecting the usercontrol.
I think my title says it all. I have a modal dialog showing up and the user can make some changes and then click a 'Save' button. I need that to totally post back the whole page. I just assumed the button would fire off regardless of the jQuery.
