Prevent Visual Studio 2005's "Clean" Command From Removing 3rd Party Binaries?

Feb 23, 2010

I have a Sitecore/ASP.NET projects that I'm developing. Today at some point I inadvertently hit the "Clean" option in the solution context menu. It took me a while to figure out why my site was hopelessly broken. Turns out Visual Studio went ahead and deleted several required assemblies from the in dir which are not part of my project. How can I prevent this from happening again? The odd thing is that it did NOT delete everything... just a small handful. It left many that are not directly referenced by my project. This makes me wonder exactly what this feature is supposed to do? Is there some sort of file flag I can set? None of the files are set to read-only. If you're interested in details, the following got deleted:

Sitecore.Analytics.dll
Sitecore.Client.XML
Stimulsoft.Base.dll
Stimulsoft.Report.dll
Stimulsoft.Report.Web.dll
Stimulsoft.Report.WebDesign.dll
Telerik.Web.UI.dll

UPDATE: You know what... I guess what I'm really more interested in here is WHY Visual Studio is leaving most of the files and only deleting these specific ones.

Visual Studio 2005 - How To Prevent Project Configuration

Apr 12, 2010

I am using visual studio 2005 (and team explorer 2005) with tfs 2008. I have installed both Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and VS80sp1-KB932544-X86-ENU.exe.

I perform the following steps:

Select Project->ASP.NET Configuration within Visual Studio 2005. Within Visual Studio 2005, attempt to perform either a check-in or a checkout.

The following happens:

The local server started by Visual Studio starts closing itself. I suspect it is crashing; the systray icons are not properly disposed of. It then reopens itself. It does this over and over again, maybe once every second or two. The TFS progress meter doesn't even budge, it just sits there. Canceling out of the checkout does not work; it says it is cancelling and does nothing.

Visual Studio :: How To Clean The Useless Files In .net Project

Mar 23, 2010

I work on an asp.net web application (3.5) with Visual Studio 2008. There are a lot of files in this project (approximately 500 aspx files) and I think I can remove some of them.

My question is: Is there a way to identify the useless files, I mean, the files that are no longer used in the project (like an image, aspx, etc.); by using Visual Studio or an external tool?

'Add Config Transforms' And One Click Publish Option Not Working When Upgraded From Visual Studio 2005 To Visual Studio 2010

Jul 28, 2010

I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.

Visual Studio :: Can't Open A SourceSafe 6 Database With Visual Studio 2005?

May 25, 2010

I know both these software are old and that I can update to newer version. But I need to do it with those software in particular.I have Visual Studio 2005 and Visual SourceSafe 6 installed on my computer. When I try to open Visual SourceSafe 6 database using Visual SourceSafe 6 directly, I have no problem at all. Then I try to open a project solution I took from SourceSafe using Visual Studio 2005. Right away I receive this messageThe solution appears to be under source control, but its binding information cannot be found. It is possible that the MSSCCPRJ.SCC file or another item that holds the source control settings for the solution, has been deleted. Because it is not possible to recover this missing information automatically, the projects whose bindings are missing will be treated as not under source control.

Then an invite to chose a SourceSafe Database open. I click on BROWSE. First thing I noticed : The SourceSafe available databases list is empty (while I remind, it's not in SourceSafe 6. I can see there the COMMON database and the VSS database which is located on a different server on our network. Before that, I went in TOOLS->OPTIONS->SOURCE CONTROL, and make sure Visual Source Safe was selected as the Plug-in to use for a Source Control). So I click again on Browse, and locate my srcsafe.ini file. Everything is OK. It evens confirm me that my database path is
\dev2k3programmationVSS and that my database name is indeed VSS. So it found it. I then click on OK.

But when I do, the Database is not added to my available list, at all. The result, I can never select a source control, ever, which end in me not being able to work connected to the main source control of our network. Everything is working fine on every other computer in our company. Only this one have problem.Did I give enough description to my problem? I really need help on this one, because working disconnected from Source Safe can give a lot of pain to our team. Can anyone give me an hand? If you need any more info, just ask.

Visual Studio :: Can't Execute "create Table" Command With Visual Web Developer Express?

I have a folder with a web site I'm developing which is connected to a database.Every time I move the folder to a different computer it's a pain when I have to move the database and change the connection string.
I've thought to use for the first time a database in the app_data folder and move all the database inside it.
Nevertheless, when I try to recreate all the tables in the new database for the first time with the query "create table ..." I get and error saying that "SQL CREATE TABLE" is not supported. Is there a way to manage this situation?

Visual Studio :: How To Build A Web Application Project From Command Line

Jul 7, 2010

How do I build a web application project from command line using Web Developer Express 2010?

I am using the same command format that I would use with devenv.exe (Visual Studio), so I can evaluate us moving forward to VS2010. However, I am having real trouble building our code. Our solution consists of 4-5 projects, consisting of assemblies. The last assembly is the web site code. The root .sln file is the one which when opening in the IDE can click Rebuild All, and the DLL's of each project are generated and then brought into the website project.

However, when I run vwdexpress.exe from the command line nothing happens and no Dlls are generated. This is not giving me any confidence to run with VS2010.

the command line is like so:

C:inetpubwwwrootmyprojectvwdexpress /build release mysolution.sln

The in folders of each respective project are empty, but it takes 3-4 seconds for the command to finish, which gives me the impression it did something.

Visual Studio :: Publish The Website And Reduce Its Size By Command Line

Sep 11, 2010

We need through command line to build our site (which we already do using msbuild.exe), but the resulting files are way too many and it takes our to ftp it to the server. I am able to publish the website and reduce its size by ~90%; however, we need to do this through command line not manually using the GUI. I have read many postings but noone is clear on how to do it (and msbuild seems to no be able to do this). Can anyone provide me a link. We are using Visual Studio 2010 and DOT NET4.0
