View 6 RepliesIn my markup, in addition to a number of other controls I have the following:
<%:Html.TextBoxFor( m => m.UserName)%>
I'd like to be able to set the focus to this textbox when the page is loaded. Is there a really easy way to do this? I have to admit that so far I haven't found it. I know that I can do this using something like this JQuery/Javascript code: $('#UserName').focus();
However, I don't like the fact that the model field name 'UserName' has to be expressed as a string constant again here - it smells of a maintenance problem. I'd really like to be able to reference the model field directly if possible. Somethiing like this: $('#' + '<%:Html.ModelFieldNameFor(m => m.UserName)%>').focus();
I am trying to set the focus to the user name TextBox which is inside an ASP.NET Login control.
I have tried to do this a couple of ways but none seem to be working. The page is loading but not going to the control.
Here is the code I've tried.
SetFocus(this.loginForm.FindControl("UserName"));
And
TextBox tbox = (TextBox)this.loginForm.FindControl("UserName");
if (tbox != null)
{
tbox.Focus();
} // if
I have been browing forums & googling for a couple of hours this morning, trying to find an answer to what (to me) should be a very simple issue. (I am a Delphi programmer moving somewhat reluctantly to Visual Studio C# , for web apps) I have created the simplest ASP.NET website in Visual Studio, containing a Textbox and a Button. When the website loads, I want Textbox1 to have focus. Simply doing
[Code]....
and this too does not work. However, if I press the Enter key when the webpage is displayed, then focus does move to TextBox1 (and pressing Enter again will fire any code attached to Button1). Surely it cannot be this hard to perform something so simple?
how to make a item the default from a dropdownlist, I want to make the value GBP as the option selected when the page loads, i've spent all day trying to get ddlist to work and now i'm stuck on this.
this
.ViewData["ddlCurrency"]
= new
SelectList(ws.ToList(),
"dboCurrencyID",
"dboCountry",
new
SelectListItem
{ Selected = true,
Text = "United
Kingdom (GBP)", Value =
"GBP"
});
Based on my dataset row value , my drop drown will focus the particular list item in page load event.
ddparty.SelectedIndex = ddparty.Items.IndexOf(ddparty.Items.FindByValue(ds.Tables[2].Rows[0][1].ToString()));
i try the above code its not working.
i'm doing a website project for my studies .
and i'm going to work with frames instead MasterPage.
now, how do i load a page in the frame from clicking on item in the menu.
I have a GridView that I would like to load at a specific page that has an item with same ID as the QueryString parameter in the URL.
View 5 RepliesI have officially wasted about two days trying to figure out what the heck was going on with my asp.net page. I actually thought it was an issue with my updatepanel code, but after reading another post I was able to reproduce the same results. [URL]
I just manually added the following control to the page (no code behind for the listbox) and it is nested in an ajax tabcontrainer inside an updatepanel. If you set item 20 as selected the page flickers when loading that tab. I tried the css mentioned (style="overflow:hidden") on the tabcontainer,tab panel, update panel and dropdownlist, but no luck. Crazy select item 19 no flicker, 20 (which is actually the 21st item) and it does flicker. This is driving me insane. And yes this only occurs in FireFox ( running 3.6).
Question basically crams it all in... I'm loading a page with a querystring (ID), and I need to use that ID to set the selected item of a ListView when the page loads. The ID is a DataKey on the ListView. I have no code of value to post--none of my attempts at this work.
View 2 RepliesI have several asp dropdownlists that are populated from a database. I would like it so that when an item is selected it opens a seperate page depending on the selection.
View 5 RepliesI have a listview to display items from database and I need to automatically select the first item when the page first loaded, how can I do it?My listview is in one of the steps of a wizard control, and this wizard control is inside a popcontrol extender with updatepanel.
View 3 Repliesi am facing a problem in my code..i have one drop downlist in my page,i store the values in session ,whenever i select the name of the dropdownlist it will redirect to another page,if i select the firstvalue of the dropdownlist,it redirect to another page,and retrive the session value,in that session value i have a case in my page load,if it is firstvalue of the dropdownlist is selected it will call case 1 and executes,if the second value of the dropdownlist is selected,it will call case 2 and it executes ,its not working properly for me..here is my code

I have a "report" the users can run it basically creates a simple gridview. In the gridview the user can click on a claim ID. The claim id is then passed via url querystring to a claim management page. The claim management page uses a listview to display the various claims and allow users to edit them. I want to use the claim id passed in the url to locate the listview row to open in edit mode, so the user can make changes / alterations to the claim.
View 4 RepliesAssuming i have two dropdownlists namely: dropdownlistA and dropdownlistB. at page load, i bind values to dropdownlistA. however, depending on the value selected or displayed in dropdownlistA, i want to bind data to dropdownlistB.
Currently, i can bind data to dropdownlistA alright and i already have the required dataset and datatable bind data to dropdownlist. However, dropdownlistB does not bind at page load since the criteria for filling the dataset to bind dropdownlistB (which is the value of dropdownlistA) is not selected. how can i make this wwork.
I am currently considered if this might work. If i were to call the databind for dropdownlistA in a different declared method besides its binding in page load, and select the value from bind in the declared method, would any value be selected?
For example:
In during page load, i call the a method that returns dataset values which i bind to dropdownlistA(caseIDDropDownList). then i call another method (CreateexhibitDataSet()) which contains the dataset values for binding dropdownlistB(exhibitDropDownList). however, i need to define a criteria in the CreateExhibitDataset() method which i will use to generate the dataset values to bind dropdownlistB. if i were to call for the data bind of dropdownlistA(caseIDDropdownList) again in the CreateExhibitDataset() method and pick the value in the dropdown list, would i get any values?
How can i work around this to bind both dropdownlists on page load?

all elements are in an updatepanel. click on a list of <tr> to fire a JavaScript function to add new <option> to the asp dropdownlist. But, when I click on other buttons to callback to the server, I get an error message:
Uncaught
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException:
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException:
Invalid postback or callback argument.
Event validation is enabled using
in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. I understand the problem. I need to let server side know the change of the dropdownlist before any other postback. Set validation as false won't work in this case, the dropdown will lose the new item anyway. I did some researches, and the possible solutions:
1)Using ViewState? Request Form? could anyone give an example?
2)Add dropdownlist item in server side. But I want to make the whole tr row clickable to fire the event. Could I click on tr and fire eg. its first child linkbutton or a linkbutton in somewhere else.
3)I've tried Jquery.ajax and webmethod , it can fire server event but since all method are static (shared) , it doesn't allow me to edit the downdownlist instance.
I posted a similar question previously, but none of the answers worked and I've been scouring all over the web trying to find a solution. My situation, I have a Edit Window webform with a dropdownlist (Note: to avoid confusion, I'm using Telerik extensions only to decorate the webform):

And in the code behind, I'm setting the datasource for the dropdownlist and using a function to query the DB for the name of the value I want to set as the selected value when the page loads initially: Partial Class EditFormVB Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Public Shared category_Name As String = ""
Dim ddlDataSource As New SqlDataSource
Protected Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Init
DetailsView1.DefaultMode = DetailsViewMode.Edit
End Sub
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Me.Page.Title = "Editing record"
''Setup DropDownList SqlDataSource
ddlDataSource.ID = "ReqCategoryData"
Page.Controls.Add(ddlDataSource)
ddlDataSource.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("TTPRODReportsQuery").ConnectionString
ddlDataSource.SelectCommand = "SELECT TS_NAME AS ReqCategory FROM dbo.TS_SELECTIONS WHERE (TS_FLDID = 5299 AND TS_STATUS = 0) ORDER BY TS_NAME"
Dim args As New DataSourceSelectArguments
ddlDataSource.Select(args)
''Set max length of Title field to 70 characters
Dim dvrTest As DetailsViewRowCollection = DetailsView1.Rows
Dim TitleTB As TextBox = dvrTest.Item(0).Cells(1).Controls(0)
TitleTB.Attributes.Add("onkeydown", "isMaxLen(this)")
TitleTB.Attributes.Add("maxlength", "70")
Dim myDDL As DropDownList = DetailsView1.FindControl("reqCategoryDropDown")
''Perform dropdown list population operations
If Page.IsPostBack = False Then
Dim ticket_ID As String = getDataKey(DetailsView1)
''Fetch Category ID
Dim sqlText As String = "SELECT TS_REQCATEGORY FROM USR_ITFAC WHERE (TS_ID = " + ticket_ID + ") "
Dim reqDataReader As SqlDataReader = GetDataReader(sqlText)
reqDataReader.Read()
Dim category_ID As String = reqDataReader(0)
''Fetch Category name using the categoryID and set as selected value in dropdown list
sqlText = "SELECT TS_NAME FROM TS_SELECTIONS WHERE (TS_ID = " + category_ID + ") "
reqDataReader = GetDataReader(sqlText)
reqDataReader.Read()
category_Name = reqDataReader(0)
myDDL.DataBind()
myDDL.Selectedvalue = category_Name //<--this value gets set only when debugging,
End If
End Sub
Private Function GetDataReader(ByVal sqlText As String) As SqlDataReader
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim sqlConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("TTPRODReportsQuery").ConnectionString)
sqlConn.Open()
Dim sqlCmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(sqlText, sqlConn)
dr = sqlCmd.ExecuteReader(System.Data.CommandBehavior.CloseConnection)
Return dr
End Function
End Class
The dropdownlist does get populated appropriately, however when I attempt to set the value, it doesn't reflect when the page loads; the dropdownlist just gets populated and no value is set to selected in the markup, so the first value is shown by default. The odd thing is that when I'm debugging, the value appears to get set when I step through the function, it's as if the selectedvalue is getting reset as soon as the function exits and proceeds to load the page.
SOLUTION: Had to add a separate function that is called onLoad from the DropDownList after the after Page_Load is done executing. Still unresolved is why the the DropDownList rebinds after the Page_Load.

I have a project that queries a set of times from a database and uses these entries to populate a dropdownlist. Once the page is loaded, the user can select one of the items in the DropDownList. When the "Save" button is clicked, the Selected item value is returned to the [HttpPost] version of the controller action. This item is then stored into session. If the system returns to the page containing the dropdown, I want the saved Value to be selected in the DropDownList. What actually happens is that the DropDownList is always set to be the first item in the list.
Database Table: This data has been imported using Link to SQL

I bind dropdownlist in my page
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {

}
