Feb 28, 2011Coming from Java programming, I'm used to the general Main<->Test Maven-setup for a project. Whenever there's a new build, all tests will be run by Maven/Junit and I get feedback about them.
I've been looking around and I can't find an analogue way for ASP.NET and Nunit. Am I forced to put my UnitTest-classes in the APP_Code folder?
What's the general way to do this? Are there any recommendations for continuous integration?

Jul 9, 2010Am trying to get a working enity model with foreign keys working but have run into a problem. I have imported 3 tables with content and some data.Lets call these tables geo_countries, geo_counties, geo_municipalities and the FK are:1. geo_county have a column country_id wich corresponds to country_id in geo_country 2. geo_municipality have a column county_id wich correspond to the county_id in geo_county.The problem i have is when i try to get correspondig child items with the following code i run into trouble:

The problem above is that 'test' generates results but not 'test2', wich never return anything. Am i not supposed to be able to do it like i do in 'test2'? I earlier tried to add a child object by replacing ToList() with Add() and that worked. But i cant seem to get anything out of it.

Security :: Custom NEW User Setup Which Build To Allow System Administrators To Setup Users?
Sep 21, 2010I'm having trouble setting up a custom NEW User Screen. Here is my situation, I have a Request for Access Screen that uses the CreateNewUser Wizard Control. I want to leave the Question and Answer for this, however I also want a custom NEW User Setup which I build myself to allow the system administrators to setup users, but for this setup I don't want the administrators to have to pick the question and answer for the NEW user, so I would like to bypass this for this setup. However, my Membership.CreateUser keeps asking for it. How can I accomplish this? I've included a copy of my current web.config file. You will notice a AspNetAdminMemberhip which I use to allow the System Administrators to reset passwords.

May 4, 2010I'm currently trying to upgrade our build server at work, going from having no build server to having one!
I'm using JetBrains' TeamCity (having used ReSharper for a couple of years I trust their stuff), and intend to use NUnit and MSBuild.
However, I've come up with an issue: it appears that it is not possible to test an ASP.NET web site with NUnit. I had assumed it would be possible to configure it to test App_Code after a build, however it seems that the only way to do tests nicely is through converting the web site to a web application
How could I go about this? the testing needs to be able to be fired automatically from TeamCity.

Aug 26, 2010I moved from VS2008 running on XP 32 bit to VS2010 running on Win7 64 bit and just noticed that I can't debug in NUnit like I used to.
On my old system, I just went to Debug|Attach to Process, chose NUnit.exe, and ran my tests from the NUnit GUI. VS2008 would stop at the breakpoints just as normal.
Now when I try this using NUnit 2.5.5.10112 on the new configuraiton it just skips over my breakpoints.

Sep 8, 2010But I have other tests that are essentially deployment tests (you can't test how the production deployment went using a unit test on a build server) and I'd like to use the nUnit framework to run these.But, the production server doesn't have the nUnit command line executer. I'm only allowed to run aspx pages and reference .dll's in bin.What do I need to do to run tests (yeah, yeah, they're not really unit tests--relax) using nUnit in a webpage? Architecture :: NUnit - Write One Value To A Database Then Create Another Value?
Aug 17, 2010Im pretty new to NUnit and am beginning the process of setting up my tests. Some of these test involve a database, specifically checking a particular value against a value in a database and if its not greater than the last retrieved value, flag an error. Whats the best way to test in this scenario ? should I write one value to a database then create another value thats out of sequence and run a database query ? This would involve putting a known value into the table, then running the query with another value.
There is no rollback attribute for nunit, so I gues using TransactionScope would work, that way I could return the database to a known state after the test. There tables have foreign keys so that means adding a lot of extra 'dummy' data first to some of the other tables. Is this sort of 'testing' the best way ? I basically need to perform the test based on an existing data value and I guess this must be pretty standard stuff, so whats the best way ?
As I understand it, the tests should be self contained, so any data i insert into the database during the test should be removed afterwards, is this correct ? If so, it means I need to insert test data into 6 additional tables just to test one function, then remove it after the test has completed, is this the normal way to to this ?

Oct 5, 2010I have a web setup package project alongside an old .asmx web service. When I build it I only get 'MyService.msi' and not the 'Setup.exe' in the 'Release' folder after build. Normally the .msi suffices for installation, but on Windows Server 2008 R2 I am getting denied from installing the .msi pacakge. I can only install .exe packages after right clicking and stating "Install as Administrator".
The server admin is still new to 2008 R2 and not sure why I can't install an .msi because I am an admin, so for now if I knew how to get that web setup package to generate the Setup.exe file as well I see my other VS.NET setup packages create.

In my main application this process works perfectly well, however when I run the unit test, the code that reads in the values from the config files doesnt read anything in. Ive tried putting app.config in my unit test project (I even tried web.config) but nothing seems to work. Are there any special steps involved when reading from config files in an nunit test ?

How To Setup Linq To SQL And WCF
Apr 22, 2010I'm venturing out into the world of Linq and WCF web services and I can't seem to make the magic happen. I have a VERY basic WCF web service going and I can get my old SqlConnection calls to work and return a DataSet. But I can't/don't know how to get the Linq to SQL queries to work. I'm guessing it might be a permissions problem since I need to connect to the SQL Database with a specific set of credentials but I don't know how I can test if that is the issue. I've tried using both of these connection strings and neither seem to give me a different result.
