Trim Portion Of Text To Create An Excerpt Keeping Full Words Intact?
Sep 16, 2010
I want to create a 'news' excerpt for the front page of my site. So I get the first news item ordered by date and then I want to display it but cut down to a number of words. How would I do this with vb.net?
I am using ContainsTable() to perform a full text search on a field (of type varbinary()) and am I wondering if there is a good way to return an excerpt of text around at least one location where the keyword matched the text in the field.Example:User searches for "computer science".The following sentence exists in the varbinary() field: "This book is about computer science and other IT related fields."I would like to return an excerpt around the words "computer science", something like: "...book is aboutcomputer science and other IT..."
I have an access DB created in 2007 and saved in 2003 (.mdb). The tables contain links to a file server on my internal network. I'm trying to import the db into Expression Web 4 and keep the links intact. Currently, I can get the import to work, but the links get stripped out and displayed as plain text.
I created a simple search form which populates a gridview from sql server. I use 'contains' on a varchar(max) field which has a full text index. I find if I do a search for "Mexico Argentina", I get multiple results, which is good. One thing my sql server stored procedure is doing is inserting the word 'AND' between words. I do this because I want all words to be found. So if the user inputs "Mexico Argentina", I am converting that to "Mexico AND Argentina"But if I have even one 'noise word' in the search string, I get no results at all. For instance, there might be a sentence in my database table saying "I prefer Mexico to Argentina" but if I put that sentence in, I get no results at all. The database is seeing my converted string:I AND prefer AND Mexico AND to AND ArgentinaAnd finds nothing.I also have another form, which does a more advanced search that allows 'exact phrase'. If the user chooses 'exact phrase', then I don't insert AND anywhere. Instead, I surround his phrase with 4 apostrophes - 2 before the phrase, and 2 after. So now the database sees:' ' I prefer Mexico to Argentina ' ' (I've put a space between apostrophes here to make it clearer to view. Now I not only get no results, I get an error message.
Setting the .Net trust level to Medium on a site will ensure that no code can access files outside the application directory.
I have an ASP.Net site that must run in Full Trust. I have configured my website in IIS to use its own Application Pool Identity [URL].
Currently it is possible for scripts/code in this app to read files outside of the application directory. This occurs because by default, accounts that are a member of the BUILTINusers group are able to read most files on the system, including c: and c:windows. It appears that Applicaion Pool Identity accounts are also members of BUILTINusers.
Is it possible to prevent file access outside the website folder while keeping Full Trust?
Currently we are saving files (PDF, DOC) into the database as BLOB fields. I would like to be able to retrieve the raw text of the file to be able to manipulate it for hit-highlighting and other functions.Does anyone know of a simple way to either parse out the files and save the raw text on save, either via SQL or .net code. I have found that Adobe has a filtdump utility that will convert the PDF to text. Filtdump seems to be a command line tool, and i don't see a way to use a file stream. And what would the extractor be for Office documents and other file types?-or-Is there a way to pull out the raw text from the SQL Full text index, without using 3rd party filters?Note i am trying to build a .net & MSSql solution without having to use a third party tool such as Lucene
I have a pretty basic search feature on a site that queries a sqldb with a sqldarasource, and then displays the results on a page, in a panel within a Repeater. I'd like to figure out if it's possible to somehow highlight the words the user searched on as they are displayed in the search results. The code below is my repeater. Do you know of any way to manipulate the Title or Description if the words in it's body match the words searched?
I am using FTB on my aspx page. is there any way I can have Toggle Full screen feature in FTB, is this feature availble in FTB? it is available on TinyMCE, but I don't want to switch to TinyMCE since I am already using FTB in most of the pages in my application.

How i can make the normal search string to sql server full text search parse, because when we are user enyer search text "how to run windows schedule in C#", in database we have article to to this, but data not returning and sometime is say error in key word and etc.
I have a "search page" where the user enter some search criteria and a gridview where I display found records. When selecting "edit" on a row I open a second form to allow editing the found data. When the user click close button on the second form I want to go back to the search page. From the beginning I did just return (redirect to page 1) to the page but now the users also want to retain the search form with the serach criteria and found rows (also refreshing the found rows with possible changed data).
I can not just use a javascript with "history.back()" since the edit page might have done postbacks so that will not return to search page.Of course one solution would be to call the search page with a query string (or other ways to pass data between pages) containing the original search data but that solution might get messy.
I have a few columns in the table. (E.g. Name, ID, Phone, Address, Father name) and I have a text box where user can type in and the system will show match result on the page. User will only key in Name and Father name in the text box. I do not want to implement a full text search or indexing.
