Usercontrols - Converting Web Form To User Control OnPreInit Event?
Feb 18, 2010
I'm in the process of converting an ASP.Net webform into a User control and there an event that now says
no suitable method found to override
the event code causing the compile error
protected override void OnPreInit(EventArgs e)
{
//do some stuff
base.OnPreInit(e);
}
Is there any equivalent for a user control?

have a data access layer, a business logic layer and a presentation layer (ie. the pages themselves). handle the OnPreInit event and populate collections required for the page. All the data comes from an SQL server database and I do not use caching.I handle a button click event to grab values from a form and insert a new object into the database. The problem is that by the time I handle the click event, the collections have already been populated, so the new item which has been inserted into the database has not been retrieved.What is the accepted solution to this?I could insert the new object directly into the collection and re-bind the GridView, but the SQL query selects only a set of objects and the new object could fall outside of this set.

Part of a web application we have uses an in-house web control assembly. This assembly contains several web user controls where several of these are used by other web controls within the same assembly.
The assembly is built as a website with a web deployment project.
The main web application's pages are dynamically compiled through a service into a single assembly and placed into the appropriate bin folder. In our development server the old assemblies aren't always tidied up and removed, meaning the folder gets full of old assemblies.
When the page that uses the in-house web control assembly (mentioned above) runs, the asp.net instance throws an out of memory as it loads all the old assemblies in an attempt to determine which assembly houses the reference to the user control being used by the other user control inside the same assembly.
We've been using the following inside the top level user controls to register the other controls
<%@ Register Src="~/....ascx" TagPrefix="UC" TagName="...." %>
Of course when the application runs this gives no information as to which assembly it can find it in.
Is there anyone that's come across this problem before? It's not really a problem as our live servers use a clean up tool to remove old assemblies, but there are still potential situations where we could get out of memory caused by this (for example the tool stops working!), so it would be nice to resolve this problem.
Here is the stack trace

I'm doing a menu that loads levels dynamicly, when you click on a item the next level is loaded asynchronously. For each menu item I have a user control. Every user control is declared in its parent, for example, the "secondlevelcontrol" has the reference to "thirdlevelcontrol".With this level of nesting, I want to manage the asynchronous calls on every user control so, when the first level is loaded the javascript to load the second is loaded too. When the second level is loaded the javascript to load the third is loaded too.
To do asynchronous calls I'm implementing ICallbackEventHandler interface. As you can see in the examples, controls are added to the page as plain html. The method "ProcessOnLoadEvent" executes all lines of the "OnLoad" event of the user control.An example of the implementation is this for the user control of fourth level:
public string GetCallbackResult()
{
return _callbackRendering;
}

I have written a user control that captures some user input and has a Save button to save it to the DB. I use a repeater to render a number of these controls on the page - imagine a list of multiple choice questions with a Save button by each question.
I am loading the user control inside the repeater's ItemDataBound event like this (code simplified):
[code]....
The problem is that when the Save button is clicked, the page posts back, but lbnUpdate_Click is not called. The Page_Load event of the page itself is called however.
I should mention that the repeater is part of a user control, and that user control is loaded inside another user control (this is a DotNetNuke site which makes heavy use of user controls). The Save button link looks like this:
javascript:__doPostBack('dnn$ctr498$AssignmentsList$rptAssignments$ctl04$ctl00$lbnUpdate','')

I have a website that serves all its pages using a single 404 page. it displays hotel profiles form business and depending on different profile levels offers more or less functionality and information.
Through the DB a masterpage is selected and usercontrols are applyed to that.
I have a contact page like this : 404.aspx > masterpage.Master > contact.ascx
My form action looks like this default.aspx?404%3bhttp%3a%2f%2fwww1.testsite.co.uk%3a80%2fcontactus
and when I click the button this where I send up with an error "Validation of viewstate MAC failed" error.
I have read stuff on these for 4 hours but still have no idea where to start.
Do I need to
Catch the form action URL (postback URL) in the baseclass and change it back to [URL] - If I do this are the form firled values still intact
Do i need to do something to change the form.action url before the page is built, if so is this done in the masterpage preinit event as this is what the form tag is
What I know works is that the usercontrol is aware of the postback, but not the form values.
I want to be able to add a 404 based contact us form on any one of 1000s of profiles and be able to catch the values. Idearly I would like to do this in the codebehind of the usercontrol as this keeps the code seperate
I am sure this must be possible and normally I can work stuff out, but here I am totally stuck. I am trying to do this in VB.

i've got a weired problem using an event-Handler in a Usercontrol I built. The Question to this is pretty simple. I don't get the "SelectedIndexChanged" Event on one of my ListBoxes which I turned to a Multiselection Dropdownlist with jQuery. It's a simple ListBox which should return the new values and should fire the "SIC" Event right? But it doesn't. I don't even get the new values as I try to change values and then read them. I spent more then 2 days searching for an appropriate answer but didn't find anything. As I tried to build a WebSite using some Usercontrols combined with AJAX I'm thinking about letting the Usercontrols out.

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005.
I have a page books.aspx that has a control named authors.ascx.
Inside the authors control there is a "select" button I want to add some kind of listener or event handler (not sure of the correct terminology) so on the parent page (books.aspx) I can respond to the "select" button being clicked.
I have to pass the authorID from the user control to the parent page.
In my authors.ascx control I just created this event:
[Code]....
Now I need to write the function for SelectAuthorBtnClick and I think add some kind of listener in the parent page to listen and handle the event.

I have a gridview called gvResults. In the gvResults_RowEditing event I add a row below the one selected. In that new row, which spans all columns, I insert a user-control. There are two buttons and some textboxes in the user control.
My problem is that when I click one of the user-control buttons it never gets to the button event handler, I think because the user control is not recreated on the page postback. How can I have the user-control events fire before the parent page events fire?
I tried using an update panel, but I still get the parent posting back before the user-control events.

Is there any way for one user control to raise an event that is handled by another user control without going through the page? I am using Umbraco and do not have access to the page object.
--Edit--
Umbraco has the idea of Macro's (user controls) that it loads into pages. I can't access the page directly as this is part of the framework.
There is a publish subscribe (pubsub) pattern that I know would fit my needs well (2 user controls that need to talk to each other) but am unsure how to hook it up in ASP.Net without the page object.

I have a Web User Control I created for authentication. The web user control is inside the box below. Clicking any button (1 or 2) below works correct as it goes to the correct c# button click event in the code behind file. If I press enter on fields a or b it goes to the correct callback (button1's) if I press enter on field c it still goes to button1's callback, not button2's
How can I give my web user control a nice self contained for and view state etc, so it wont mess with the remainder of the page's form?

User: __a___
Pass: __b___
[button1]

I have a Custom WebControl. Inside this control I add a button and I want it to access an EventHandler that is on the WebForm where the control is included. The handler handles with controls from the WebForm, so it has to be there. I could probably manage to take the button out of the control, but it would be better to keep it on the control, for organization sake.
public class LanguageSelection : WebControl
{
private List<Language> _Languages;
private CSSImageButton btnOk = new CSSImageButton();

We have an application where the controls are dynamically added to the form based on the logged in user,
This user controls related data is stored in the database. There is lot of logic in the code behind in the asp.net webforms which is so messy to maintain it, we are planning to re-write it using the MVC framework.
I would say there would be rougly 50 different forms based on the user logged in, is it good idea to create so many views and redirect to the appropriate view based on the logged in user, in some of the forms there might be minor difference like the order of the Control might change.

For a "dashboard" module I need to dynamically load user controls based on criteria as the user enters the page (role, etc). The problem is that the events are not being fired at all from the controls
As I understand it I need to load the controls in the OnPreInit method of the dashboard page, however I cannot get a reference to the Placeholder control at this point of initialization (i.e. I get a NullReferenceException); trying to load the Placeholder dynamically via Page.FindControl gives me, ironically, a StackOverflowException.
I've tried loading the controls in PreRender and OnInit as well but the events in the controls are not wired up properly and will not fire.
The code is basically this:

I have a webdayview control (Infragistics proprietary ASP.net control) on my page. On the aspx source I've inserted some javascript (webdayview_click - clientside click event) that calls a webmethod in the codebehind. This seems to work fine, but when I
insert this webdayview control into a user control and move the corresponding javascript into the aspx of the user control, it doesn't work. I can't even insert a breakpoint into the javascript function to debug it. Is there a way to make it work? I want to enable the click event of the webdayview control so that when I click on it, the javascript function calls the webmethod. Here's my code (remember it is inside a user control):
[code]...
I posted this question on the Infragistics forum but didn't get any replies. Hopefully I'll get some here. :)
