I'm trying to use the Entity Framework with a Firebird database in Visual Studio 2010
Useful info:
Windows 7 64-bit Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Firebird 2.5.0 Firebird .Net Data Provider 2.6 DDEX 2.0.5
I've done:
Installed Firebird server (and it works and I can connect to a database) Downloaded DDEX (I've run the registry files) used the gacutil on the FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll and checked that it indeed was installed and it was Modyfied the machine.config for both 2.0 and 4.0 in 32-bit and 64 bit folders to include the provider in the element When I try to add a connection in the server explorer I choose "Firebird Data Source" and the Firebird data provider and press continue. I the "Add Connection" dialog window I fill in the info "data source, database, user, password.." and press ok and then I get the following error:
Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider Also when I try to add a new Entity Data Model I cannot see the Firebird option.. I can only see SQL options. I really need help on this one as I've spent many hours on this and I cannot get it to work.. I've also read other related questions on SO,
I have a Silverlight site hosted in an asp page, it has been developed using vs2010 using .net 3.5 framework and silverlight 4. It all works on my dev box. However when I publish the site and get it deployed I get the error:
Could not load file or assembly 'Moe.Tactical.Ttas.Web' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'Moe.Tactical.Ttas.Web' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.
I have checked that the ISS asp setting are using 2.0.50727, and that all my references are using that runtime also.
I am not sure what to do to work out what the missing dependencies are at this point (I don't have access to the deployment box, I will have to go and sit with a system admin).
I have visual studio 2008. But all my references are to the 2.0 framework. This is causing stability issues with my screensraper. How can get visual studio to use the 3.5 framework.
My application uses authentication mode="Forms". I am doing my first Publish since the upgrade and all looks correct. I publish to the File System which is what I used to do in VS2008. When I install the app on my server (IIS6), the login page renders correctly and I enter correct authentication. In previous versions, the application would then render the Default.aspx page. Now, I receive a windows authentication window for my website. I'm not sure what's changed and I think it has something to do with the publish process in VS2010 although I may be mistaken
I have a vs2005 web application project,I upgraded my machine from xp to Windows 7, the web application project not working in vs2005 anymore, does anybody know why windows 7 not support web application project for vs2005? if i upgrade vs2005 web application project to vs2008, will that work in windows 7? and after upgrade, will the original web application project still a web application project or it upgrade to website project?
I have a vs2005 web application project, Since the server is upgraded to windows 7, so i upgraded this web application project to vs 2008, but failed, the error message is as below, Unable to read the project file XX.csproj. The web appilication project verovaluexmllistener is configured to use IIS to access local iis website you must install all of the following windows components. IIS, IIS 6 metabase and iis 6 configuration compatibility asp.net. In addition, you must run vs in the context of administrator account . by default, windows runs applications in a limited -privilege user account even when you are logged on to the computer as an administrator, To run Visual studio with administrative privileges, right click the visual studio .
My current Web Based Application is developed in .NET 2.0 framework using Visual Studio 2005 Standard edition tool and SQL Server 2005 Standard edition, Is it possible to convert to .NET 4.0 Framework using Visual Studio 2010 Professional Upgrade edition tool.I would like to purchase Visual Studio 2010 Professional Upgrade edition.
At work I'm tryhing to upgrade an ASP.NET 2.0 app (which we wrote using VB.NET 2005) to ASP.NET 4.0. I had a few problems during the upgrade, but eventually worked them all out. At the end of the day I decided to give it a quick compile and see if I'd get the start page, so I hit F5 in VS 2010. I left it that way, and man was it acting weird. VS 2010 wasn't responding to anything. If I hovered the mouse over VS 2010's minimize or close buttons, in the upper right corner, then those buttons were flashing very rapidly. I'm not sure what was going on. After waiting 15 minutes to see if it would come up, I decided to try clicking on the close button. Nothing happened. Eventually, I had to leave (I take public transit, and I have to leave when the bus comes)But what I want to know is this, is this pretty standard behavior? Does it normally take this long to do this? This website is of modest size (<100 pages).
(Later) When I came into work today, 8 hours later, VS 2010 was still doing whatever the heck it was doing, but basically it wasn't responding to anything.
I have a highly complicated web site that is under source control and has a long history. I would like to migrate this website into a web application project but I do not want to lose the source control history. We use Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server (Currently 2005 tfs but we are in the process of upgrading to 2010).create a webapplication project and migrate the files from the web application into it without losing the source control connections?
I'm trying to publish my mvc3 project to a web host server, I right clicked my project and selected publish, there i entered the ftp information, VS2010 uploaded the files to the ftp, but when i try to surf to the remote site i get an error "Directory Listing Denied". all guides I found requierd an installation on the web host side, is there no way to just upload the site like in classic asp?
Im working on a website project with Visual Studio 2010 from 2 different computers (home & work). In Dreamweaver Im used to FTP to upload/download files to/from a webserver to syncronice my files on the current computer Im working on.What is best option in Visual Studio 2010 to sync project files between home & work computers? I have seen there is a built in FTP, but seems only it can upload files, limited functionality?
I have been working on this project for a few months in VS2008.. now that we are getting closer to the end, one of the other programmers has been working and doing his in VS2010, so when i try to open his projects in VS2008 it just shows up as XML.. so i have to open in VS2010.. thats fine..
But if i try to open my project in 2010, it prompts to use the conversion wizard.. Should i be concerned or are there any issues with doing the conversion? Being the end of the project, i dont want to cause issues at this point.. So would like to know if converting the project file at this stage in our project a good idea? Will there be any issues using his code with mine since they were developed in 2 different versions..
when i opened my Visual Studio 2010 i noticed that my ajax tab was missing from my toolbox and ajax control kit too. Then i noticed even that when i create new website, there is no web.config in it and it should be.WHAT IS GOIN ON???? :/
I have downloaded a project from the internet called the SMS Source example. I wanted to open this project in VS2010, so a conversion wizard has popped up prompting for the conversion. But it has errors in converting.
I just installed Visual Studio 2010 on my Windows 7 laptop in order to start learning the Entity Framework. For some reason that I haven't been able to figure out, when I try to add a new item, there is no template for the ADO.NET Entity Framework. Why the template doesn't exist and what I need to do in order to get the template? I came across a post that stated that in order restore the template that I needed to do the following: devenv /installvstemplates
I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
