View 2 RepliesService contract and operational contract in details.
Whether Service contract can be applied to class or only to the interface.
What are the advantage of the service contract and operational contract in addition.
I have a method in wcf which returns stream of custom object. I need to deserialize this stream at client side, but my custom class which is exposed as data contract is not visible through client proxy. When I add a dummy operation contract which returns the custome object I am able to get this custom class. I dont want to write this dummy method as there are many such custom classes.
Is there any way to expose data contract without writing any operation contract that returns or accepts data contract type object?
Can some explain me the difference between Message Contract and DataContract .i'm new to wcf.. so please give the brief explanation or provide me some code snippets

View 1 RepliesI added a service reference via the add service reference method. I can see all of its services in the intellisense but when I run the project and it executes the line where I instantiate the service : MyProjectName.ServiceReferenceName.IServiceReferenceClient
client = new MyProjectName.ServiceReferenceName.ServiceReferenceClient;it throws this error:Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'ServiceReferenceName.IServiceReferenceClient' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.
I would like to convert WSDL file to Service Contract Interface (WCF).
View 1 RepliesI have a WCF service which has 4 Operation contracts.
I have added a new contract and it gets the data from database and returns the result set.
I can access the new contract and the service get the correct result set. But while passing the result set to the client I get the error of The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly.
What are the steps to follow after adding a new contract like new binding etc.
unfortunate events we published a web service with the tempuri-namespace a couple of months ago and no one noticed (not in our company, not the companies connecting to the web service) even though it's live since that time and lots of companies (~25 i guess) already access this web service.Now I'm thinking of correcting that mistake and have the namespace fixed to a proper value.The only problem is that as soon as we would do it, all the programs and services connected to this web service would stop working. I can't really allow that to happen.Is there any way to fix the namespace for future purpose or to have the web service operate under two namespaces as one web service?What can I do to get rid of the tempuri-namespace and have it fixed without needing to synchronize the change with all the external companies?
View 2 RepliesWhen you add a Web Reference in an ASP.NET project in Visual Studio the web application's root namespace is always added.So, if I add a web reference called MyWebService and the default namespace of the application is MyApplication the namespace of the generated proxy class will be: MyApplication.MyWebService.
However, I want to be able to specify which namespace to use for the generated class (to skip the default namespace and have the namespace be called simply MyWebService).Is using wsdl.exe through the command line the only way of accomplishing this? I don't want to manually edit the generated class (since it can get re-generated).
I have been creating asp.net application for accessing data from multiple service references, is it possible to access it with same namespace in Reference.cs file
View 1 RepliesWe have a C# Web Service that declares itself using attributes. The code-behind file looks like:
[WebService(Namespace = "http://the.web.service.url/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
public sealed class TheWebservice : WebService
{
[WebMethod]
public SomeObject TheFunction()
...
The web services has worked for a long time now. Recently, one request resulted in an error:
The maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data. After searching around, I found that there is a setting maxStringContentLength that can increase the meaximum size. The post says you can configure this setting in Web.config in the BasicHttpBinding section. You can then specify that BasicHttpBinding in an endpoint section. But since we declare the webservice using the WebService attribute in the code-behind file, we do not have an endpoint section.
Is there a way to specify an endpoint using a declarative attribute? Alternatively, is it possible to switch from attribute to web.config mode without breaking existing clients? Am I confusing WCF and its predecessor here?
i get the following error when trying to compile my asp.net site after updating the project from vs2008 to vs2010The type or namespace name 'Syndication' does not exist in the namespace 'System.ServiceModel' (are you missing an assembly reference?)I have the asp.net site targeting 3.5 framework (as it did in vs2008)I also added a reference to System.ServiceModel.Web

I have tested it on Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7 and it worked fine, but when compiling it on MonoDevelop it throws the error: The type or namespace name 'Objects' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' under this line: public partial class MoviesDBEntities : global::System.Data.Objects.ObjectContext
View 1 RepliesI use vs2008 and my MVC 1.0 and 2.0 Projects were working perfectly but all of a sudden i have an error on trying to compile all of them;
The error is of the form;
Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Controllers' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Models' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 4 The type or namespace name 'AccountController' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 5 The type or namespace name 'IFormsAuthenticationService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 6 The type or namespace name 'IMembershipService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
These errors seem to come from the HomeControllerTest and the AccountControllerTest.
note that i recently installed Azure Tools using the Web Installer..Dunno if that could be the cause or problem.
when I put a break point i get this error message:

View 2 RepliesI was earlier having a problem with referencing a 3rd Party Dll (Here) but have overcome this problem and am now having a problem referencing my own classes!
Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation
Error:Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Secure' does not exist in the namespace 'source_extranet' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
The line that the Error points to this line in the class:

new source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData();
This line of code points to a class in the same folder as the calling code class.

I would note that I updated to VWD Express 2010 then had to revert back to 3.5 because my host at Arvixe had not updated my server yet. He then said he updated it and I reverted up to 4.0 again. It turned out he hadn't and I tried to revert back...and then this showed up and numerous other errors.
I'm kind of new to asp.net and am bad at translating stack traces. While workign on the above function in my web services I've seem to have run into a problem. I can connect to services which return static values. But when I try to connect to a service method that accesses the database I get the following error message:
