I would like to write the following within a div (myGallerySet) from behind code (vb.net) on pageLoad:

<div id="gallery1" class="galleryElement"> <h2>Brugges 2006</h2> <div class="imageElement"> <h3>Item 1 Title</h3> <p>Item 1 Description</p> <a href="#" title="open image" class="open"></a> <img src="images/brugges2006/1.jpg" class="full" /> <img src="images/brugges2006/1-mini.jpg" class="thumbnail" /> </div> <div class="imageElement"> <h3>Item 2 Title</h3> <p>Item 2 Description</p>
<a href="#" title="open image" class="open"></a> <img src="images/brugges2006/2.jpg" class="full" /> <img src="images/brugges2006/2-mini.jpg" class="thumbnail" /> </div> </div> <div id="gallery2" class="galleryElement"> <h2>Stock Photos</h2> <div class="imageElement">
<h3>Item 1 Title</h3> <p>Item 1 Description</p> <a href="#" title="open image" class="open"></a> <img src="images/stock/77196_6784.jpg" class="full" alt="Item 1 Title"> <img src="images/stock/77196_6784_002.jpg" class="thumbnail" alt="thumbnail of Item 1 Title">
</div> <div class="imageElement"> <h3>Item 2 Title</h3> <p>Item 2 Description</p> <a href="#" title="open image" class="open"></a> <img src="images/stock/165392_5486.jpg" class="full" alt="Item 2 Title"> <img src="images/stock/165392_5486_002.jpg" class="thumbnail"
alt="thumbnail of Item 2 Title"> </div> </div>

Basically I have images details which are stored in a database and would need to dynamically added hence, why i need to write within a div container. Any ideas how I could achieve this?

State Management :: Dynamically Added Controls And 'Failed To Load Viewstate' Error

May 23, 2010

I am writing a search results page for an airline booking system. I have Next/Previous buttons to view flights for the next or previous days. The way i have done my results grid is that i use an HtmlTable and dynamically add rows, cells and controls into the cells. This gives ultimate flexibility given that we can add any control type we want and have it function as it does everywhere else in the system. As you should be aware - i must recreate these controls each time the page is reloaded (in the page_init event) since asp does not handle this automatically.

When they go next/previous it refreshes the flight data and re-populates the grids. If they select a flight in the return grid (by checking the RadioButton), and go next on the FIRST leg grid, the selection of the return leg stays the same after the postback
- which is great. But the problem is, if the flight they selected on the return leg is no longer available it will not create the control and i get the following error;

"Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request."

Is there any way to tell asp.net that if you do not find the control anymore, simply ignore it rather than throwing the error? The nature of this design is that there potentioally WILL be a different layout after the page is posted back.

I have an asp page "A" and I've created a user control "B"

When I do A.Controls.Add(B), I would like to make an element, say a TableRow which is defined inside control "B", invisible via code behind.

When looking through Controls of "A", I cannot seem to find that table row.

Web Forms :: Page Min-height With Dynamically Added Content Not Working?

Mar 9, 2011

I've made a pag with a content div that has min-height set to 1200 pixels, and a black bacgkround color..

When I add a bunch of lines in the .aspx page (in html) , it works perfectly, it changes the black background height to the required height if it was more than 1200 pixels.

But, if I put a PlaceHolder in side the content div, and add a bunch of lines
dynamically to the PlaceHolder, it doesn't work, the page shows the content with background of 1200 pixels of height, and at the bottom of it no more content background, but continues showing the rest of the lines
outside of the content div..

VS 2010 - Adding Linkbuttons To A Page Dynamically On Page Load

Jun 1, 2012

Ok, so I'm adding linkbuttons to a page dynamically on page_load.I had it to where the link buttons were redirecting to a page with a query string attached. I was attempting to use the AjaxToolKit's AjaxFileUploader and ran into issues with existing query strings.

So what I'm trying to do now is handle the click event of the linkbutton server side, set 2 session variables and then redirect the page to the same page, but with out appending a querystring so the ajaxfileuploader will work correctly.Here is my linkbutton code:

vb Code:
Dim Lin As New LinkButton
Lin.Text = dr("DeptDesc").ToString
Lin.CssClass = "deptlink"
Lin.ToolTip = CDate(dr("MeetingDate").ToString).ToFileTime.ToString
'Lin.OnClientClick

[code]....

I know I have Lin.PostBackURL and Lin.setAttribute(...). It didn't work with just setAttribute and I saw a post online about someone setting the PostBackURL and it working...

C# - Writing An Image Dynamically?

Jun 23, 2010

I have three values that are being generated dynamically in the code-behind of my web form. These three values will be shown to the user. While this may sound odd, I do NOT want the user to be able to copy and paste these values. Because of this, I would like to write out the values via an image that is build dynamically.

My question is, is there a way to dynamically create an image and write it out to the response? I would prefer not to create an image, save it to the server, and then pass a url back to the page. I would really like to write out the binary content along with the response.

Web Forms :: Dynamically Created Table - Empty On First Page Load

Mar 10, 2011

I have a table thats created dynamically, the table gets its contents from a custom class I've created that gets statistical data from a database. As the table is generated dynamically, I've put the contents class (the table data) into a session object and I populate the table initially inside a !IsPostback then on the page init I get the data from the session (its empty on the firts page load). I am now getting this error: Multiple controls with the same ID 'controlnamehere' were found. FindControl requires that controls have unique IDs. How can I avoid this?

AJAX :: Dynamically Set Targetcontrolid Of Any Extender Which Remains After Page Load?

I am using ASP.NET 2.0 with VB. In design view of grid, i have one textbox in its template field. I also have one Ajax Calender Extender and FilteredTextBox Extender. I have set target controlId of both calender and filteredtextbox extender equal to that textbox. Now dynamically i dispose one of the extender from that textbox. everything works ok. But once my page reloads it takes the original design image, means both extenders are being set to that textbox.

What Are The Main Differences Of Defining A Control Statically Or Creating It Dynamically On Page Load

Sep 13, 2010

I am working on a project which creates controls dynamically for a form in the page_load event, loads in their current values from the database and saves their values (using FindControl) when the user clicks the continue button. When I added a control statically in the .aspx page and followed their same procedure of loading the value in the page load and saving it on the button press I found that the value would not save correctly. It seems that it wouldn't save because the click event fires after the page_load, so the page_load of the post back reverted the value and the user entered value was not saved.

The strange thing is that by changing the control to be dynamically created just as all the other controls on the page and keeping the loading and saving the same it now works. Even though the page load still creates the control with the old database value. It seems like a very fundamental asp .net feature here but i'm just unclear as to what is going on. I suspect it is to do with the timing of creation and maybe when the view state kicks in.

Cannot Find Selected Value Of Dynamically Added Controls In Repeater / How To Dynamically Add The Controls

Jan 11, 2011

I am creating a survey page that has a list of questions and answers that can be radiobuttonlists, checkboxlists or textboxes. These controls are added dynamically to a Repeater in its ItemDataBound event using Controls.Add.

I've managed to render the page ok but when I submit the form and iterate over the controls in the repeater to get the selectedvalues of the radiobuttons and textbox values, FindControl returns null. What do I need to do to get get the selected values? I've tried iterating over the RepeaterItems but that returned null too. I've tried different types of FindControl but it never resolves the control types.

It works if I add a declarative DataBinder in the Repeater like this

<asp:Repeater ID="rptSurvey" runat="server" Visible="true" EnableViewState="true" >
<ItemTemplate>
<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Question") %>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>

However, I want want to dynamically add the controls but in doing this i cant get the selectedvalues when submitting. This is tha main structure of my code...

Web Forms :: Dynamically Load UserControl, Access Properties In Parent Page Without Recreating In PostBack

Nov 15, 2010

I have several usercontrols which are loaded based on business logic.However, all of them have webcontrols whose selected/entered value needs to be accessible in parent page on an event.Since there can be any combination of UserControls, I do not want to load all the UserControls in the Parent Page, since they are heavy.

I would like to load only those controls which are supposed to appear on the page, yet access the value from the usercontrol which caused the postback. (I would rather not access using Request.Form) (ViewState is open, but unsuccessful to store value in parent page's viewstate in onClick)Here is a sample scenario

Page: Home

Dynamically Loads: UserControls1

UserControls has TextBox tb and Button btn, causing onClick

When btn is clicked, I want to get value of tb in parent page on PostBack, Page creates UserControl2

C# - Controls Added Dynamically Not Visible From The Code Behind?

Jul 7, 2010

I'm adding a dynamically built set of checkboxes to an asp.net page from the code behind with something like this in a recursive fashion:

pnlPageAccessList.Controls.Add(myCheckboxControl);

The controls show up fine on the page, but they don't show up when I view source, nor can I access them from the code behind.If I add the controls in the on_init method, they work. But I have some business rules driving changes to the list of controls itself that require I fire the add method elsewhere. Has anyone seen this before? I'm away from work so I can't copy the exact code.

I have two terrible ideas for how to get it working. One involves some jQuery and a set of hidden controls holding a big array of integers; the other is run the method on_init AND on my other events so the controls at least show up. Both smell like ugly hacks.
