How To Prevent A Password Input From Clearing After Submit
Jun 30, 2010
If you have a page with an <asp:TextBox TextMode="Password" ... />.How can you keep the value after a postback?
This is my problem:At the registration screen of my app you need to enter a password. Then you click submit, a postback occurs and the password fields are cleared, how can I prevent the password field from clearing?

I have a page in which the user enters a password and verifies it. Below these controls is a link that will pull information and fill out other parts of the page.
No matter how I arrange the update panels, the password textboxes are cleared out. I don't want to use session, viewstate, or attributes as it is my understanding that will leave the password in the html of the page when rendered. I thought the whole idea of using update panels was so that one portion of a page could be updated without affecting another portion (for example clearing passwords).

prevent multiple clicks on Submit, I am using
//to prevent multiple clicks
this.imgGonder.Attributes.Add("onclick", "this.disabled = true;" + this.GetPostBackEventReference(this.imgGonder));
in PageLoad()...
this works fine while testing and %90 other users. But I still see some duplicates in database from other users.

I have a form that when submitted shows a busy animation and disables the submit button.
Anyone know how to query Microsoft's Sys.Mvc.FormValidation to see if the form passed it's test so I can prevent the busy animation showing if the form hasn't actually been submitted? Or even some other work-around? In case it's relevant - I'm using Data Annotations for my validation.
At present my client side javascript looks like this:

I have an ASP.NET application designed for a Windows CE device that needs to take in information from a scanned barcode. The device sends the scanned data as string input with a crlf to whatever field has focus. I set up my page with a textbox that takes the input and posts back to look up the item.
Now, I'd like that box to not be visible to the user, but IE complains when I set focus to it if the field is "visibility: hidden" or "display: none". I've tried moving it off screen using absolute coordinates, but setting the focus scrolls the window to the new location.

I am using Update Panel in my asp page and I am doing JQuery Validation on Asynchronous Postback...I just want to validate my form on only button clicks or submits..My problem is..all my buttons are in different formviews and won't load at a time...that's why I am unable to take the button id's and use the click events..here is my code..
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_initializeRequest(ValidateMyForm);
function ValidateMyForm(sender, args) {
var objPost = args.get_postBackElement(); [code]..
All I want to do is: 2nd time validation on only button submit not for everything...I do get other postbacks on this page and those post backs also gets validated each time (I want to Avoid this)...

I'm using Josh Bush's MaskedInput plugin for jQuery in an ASP.NET 3.5 Webform app. How to get rid from the literals in the code-behind file after form submit? E.g: a phone input with the mask $("#txtPhone").mask("(99)9999-9999");
In the code-behind:
string customerPhone = txtPhone.Text
Which returns me: (12)3456-7890
But this is what I want: 1234567890
In the plugins changelog page it says I can use mask() method with no arguments to archieve this. But how to do it from the code-behind?!
EDIT
I want to send to the server the unmasked value. How to do that?

Some say it is not a bug it is default in asp.net. but for me it is a bug in logic. When you say refresh it should be reload the component that you are refreshing. But in asp.net i notice that they recalling all activity and viewstate like event and data that are triggered in the previous postback. My opinion it is a redo not refresh. this is only my observation on the issue dont hate me on this microsoft fan.
on aspx page:
private
static string __VIEWSTATE_FETCH;
protected void Page_Load(object sender,
EventArgs e){
[Code]....

I'm a total newbie with MVC -- learning it with MVC3 using Razor.
I just watched the video on PluralSight and was just following along with the example. I created my own Movie and MovieRepository objects. I then created a strongly typed view for adding a new movie. This is what's in the view:
[Code]....
My Movie object looks like this:
[Code]....
If I click submit without entering anything in the input field, I get validation messages i.e. The Rating field is required or if I enter non-numeric data, I get The field Rating must be a number.
I didn't wire this and wanted to understand where this is coming from.

I want to prevent the copy and paste of passwword to confirmpassword. I have tried to prevent this action with the Javascript below but I continue to get the error "The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>).".
The jvascript I am using is as follows:
$(document).ready(function () {
var PasswordClientID = = document.getElementById('<%= CType(CreateUserWizardStep1.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("Password"), TextBox ).ClientID %>');
$(PasswordClientID).bind('copy', function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
});
var ConfirmPasswordClientID = = document.getElementById('<%= CType(CreateUserWizardStep1.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("ConfirmPassword"), TextBox ).ClientID %>');
$(ConfirmPasswordClientID).bind('copy', function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
});
});

We have some error reporting code that, when an unhandled exception occurs, we send everything over in an email to our groups. This is great except if an unhandled exception occurs on a page with a password field then it's sent over as plain text.
Is there a way to iterate through Request.Form and figure out which item(s) are passwords? This is done at a low level so we can't look for specific controls.
Naturally, we could check to see what type the input box is but I'm not sure if that's the cleanest way. Advice?

I have a form that has a MAC Address field and a Password field and I have the chrome auto-fill options turned off, but when I load the page, chrome thinks the MAC Address should be an e-mail address and puts an e-mail address in there and for the password, it puts a password in there. Is there a way to prevent this behavior? Is there way to do this programmatically on page load, I tried clearing the fields, but that doesn't work.

My app creates a randomly-generated password when an account is created. I just tried to log in with a new account, and ASP.Net treated the following password as malicious input:
vkx&#!n#
Do we know why this particular password triggers a validation exception?
Exception information: Exception type: HttpRequestValidationException Exception message: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$txtPassword="vkx&#!n#").

I have used the above control on a register form. An example of the functionality can be seen here:
http://www.asp.net/ajax/ajaxcontroltoolkit/samples/passwordstrength/passwordstrength.aspx
The client has requested that the password Text Indicator (displayed to the right of the control) doesn't dissapear when the password control looses focus. I can see his point on this.

When a user that has their IE set to save passwords hits my "Reset Password" form, the first text box set with TextMode set to "Password" is populated with the users saved password. Understandable, this is not the affect I would like as this is their "old" password. I cannot set the text of a text box with mode set to "Password" (naturally). Does someone know how to suppress or clear this value when IE is saving passwords?
