.NET MVC 2 Submitting From Partials In Different Views?

Mar 23, 2011

If I have a partial that is used in multiple views that submits to its own dedicated action, then how do I know which view it has come from so I can go back to that view?

Best Practice For Using JavaScript On Partials And Views In MVC?

Feb 25, 2010

I started removing part of a view into a partial so that it could be reused on another view. However, I got stuck because there are some JavaScript functions on the original view that call some of the functions that belong to the partial. It seems wrong to call functions that are defined on the partial from the containing view (and vice-versa). What is the best practice for this situation?

MVC - Share Partials Between Areas

Mar 5, 2011

is there some way to share a partial razor view between areas? For example a login partial, it is found if i use @Html.Partial("_LoginPartial") but the URLs Html.ActionLink generates are local to the calling area (even though the partial itself is not part of the area).

_LoginPartial.cshtml is in /Views/Shared/_LoginPartial.cshtml
Calling view is inside /Areas/Somearea/Views

Links generated are like: [URL]
But should always be: [URL]

Partial view source:

@if(Request.IsAuthenticated) {
<text>Welcome <b>@Context.User.Identity.Name</b>!
[ @Html.ActionLink(@Messages.Logout, "Logout", "Account") ]</text>
}
else {
@:[ @Html.ActionLink(@Messages.Login, "Login", "Account") ]
}

MVC :: Put Partials Somewhere Else Except Shared Folder?

Oct 29, 2010

I have View which loads more than one partials.

[Code]....

It's convinient to me to divide menus for pieces. But number of partials keep growing and it is getting harder to find concrete partial in Shared folder. Can I store partials in view folder which uses this partial? Html.RenderPartial() doesn't have such parameter as Controller Name so I think that it's impossible. But if there are any solutions to solve this inconvinience?

MVC :: Stuck. Trying To Create A Cms With Nested Partials?

Aug 21, 2010

I am currently trying to display multiple items on a single page. I am not sure as to how to tackle this. What I have is a database table that has all the page data in. I have this run as a PagesController and this works fine. However what I would like to do is, if say the Products page is selected via the menu, I want to pull back not only the Products page html but also get all the products, and even be able to pull them through via category. I was trying to use a partial view, but I can't get it to work. The same would be for other pages, having partial views to display the other content, ie if Gallery is selected, the page html for Gallery shows and it then can push to a partial view that pulls all the gallery images from the gallery db table and so on.

Maybe I am tackling this the wrong way. I have the pages stored in the db to allow for a CMS system I have setup. Maybe I need to use models for all the other items(Products, Gallery, Videos and such) and use the partial for the page html?

fixed on my own. couldn't figure out how to pull stuff in from multiple tables into one view.

MVC :: Sharing View Files (master, Partials, Css) Between Solutions?

Mar 7, 2011

My team is creating several solutions to develop separate branches of the same site. We have some CSS, partials, and master view files that we would like to somehow share between solutions. I have tried linking files but that has to be done for each and every file (cannot link directories, it seems). Does anyone have a tried and true system for doing this sort of thing for larger sites (other than putting everything in one massive solution)?

C# - .NET MVC Partial Views And Routing - Using Ajax Calls To Trigger A New Request But Non Of The Partial Views Are Refreshed

Mar 9, 2010

I have an MVC view that contains a number of partial views. These partial views are populated using partial requests so the controller for the view itself doesn't pass any data to them. Is it possible to reload the data in one of those partial views if an action was triggered in another? For example, one partial view has a jqGrid and I want to refresh the data in another partial view when a user selects a new row in this grid. Is there a code example for this scenario (in C#) that I can look at to see what am I doing wrong? I am using ajax calls to trigger a new request but non of the partial views are refreshed so I am not sure if the issue is with the routing, the controller,

Submitting Information In Database?

Feb 15, 2010

I just started with ASP.net in Visual Studio and I have a problem which I can't find any solution for. I made a master page with a few subpages and one is a very simple shoutbox page. I added a gridview and added some information manually into the database so I could see if it displayed well on the website and it did. So I have a GridView with Name and Message. Beneath that I have a textfield and a button and I'd like to submit the information in the textfield to the database however I don't know how to do it.

This is the code I have on the shoutbox page:

MVC Submitting Form Using ActionLink

Feb 13, 2010

I am trying to use link to submit a form using the following code:

function deleteItem(formId) {
// submit the form
$("#" + formId).submit();
}

Basically I have a grid and it displays a number of items. Each row has a delete button which deletes the item. I then fire the following function to remove the item from the grid.

function onItemDeleted(name) {
$("#" + name).remove();
}

It works fine when I use a submit button but when I use action link the JavaScript from the controller action is returned as string and not executed.

public JavaScriptResult DeleteItem(string name)
{
var isAjaxRequest = Request.IsAjaxRequest();
_stockService.Delete(name);
var script = String.Format("onItemDeleted('{0}')", name);
return JavaScript(script);
}

And here is the HTML code:........................

MVC :: Submitting Multiple Data Entries?

May 24, 2010

I am wondering how to handle and setup a means to submit multiple data entries via ASP.NET MVC.

Suppose I have a product database table such as: ProductId, ProductTitle, Price.

From the view, I was thinking to code the HTML form as:

<form ... >
<table>
<tr>
<th>ProductId</th>
<th>ProductTitle</th>.......

Suppose the form is to be submitted to Controller: Product, Action: Add. What sort of coding techniques can I use to handle this dynamic form, such that I follow good or best practice, and if possible also be elegant.

The solution I see so far is to test the Request.Form (or Formcollection) indexer/dictionary for existence for the dynamic input fields. E.g.

public ActionResult Add(Formcollection form)
{
int productEntry = 1;
string productPrefix = "Product";
while(true)
{........

JQuery - Submitting Forms From A Modal Box?

Aug 12, 2010

I have an ASP.NET web site with master/content pages. On the master page, there is a link to log-in and that brings up a modal jQuery form. How can I make sure that the info that is submitted on this form (which is just a DIV in my master page) is handled by a particular postback event?

Keep in mind that the modal can be submitted from any number of pages and I want to make sure that when the modal is submitted, the postback event of the content page is ignored while the postback of the master page handles the form.

Form Is Not Submitting Via Javascript On A Button?

Sep 27, 2010

My website has been created with a CSS/HTML frame work that has been integrated into an ASP.NET website. Inside of a ContentPlaceHolder, I have a simple login form. The catch is that I am using the onclick event of an image to submit the form. It normally works pretty straight forward, but this time I am having an issue.

<div id="login">
<form action="index.aspx" method="post" id="nothingForm" name="nothingForm">
</form>[ code]....

I have to stick another form before the real form to make onclick="document['loginform'].submit()" actually work. This should not be the case, of course, but I was unable to find any solutions to it on the web.

MVC :: Field Required While Submitting Wabpage In MVC?

Dec 11, 2010

I found a very piculiar care in ASP.Net MVC webpage submission to server. The model object is bound to the action event. It was working fine. I added another interger field to my model object and added a control to the webpage(.aspx). When I submit the page without entering data in the new field, I found that my ModelState.IsValid in the Action Event, is false and there is error registered as the field value is required. I am surprised why it will be a mandatory field? when I have not set is as Mandatory ? Is there some thing wrong I am doing? I putting the samples below.

New Filed in ASPX:

[Code]....

Controller Object :

[
{
AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]public
ActionResult AddDriver(Driver driver)
}

On submit of the page when control comes to the AddDriver Action event , I found the ModelState.IsValid is false.

why it is happening as I have not put any require attribute in the Model object's field.

MVC: Submitting A Form With Nested User Controls?

Apr 11, 2010

I have a form that contains a number of user controls (partial views, as in System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl), each with their own view models, and some of those user controls have nested user controls within them. I intended to reuse these user controls so I built up the form using a hierarchy in this way and pass the form a parent view model that contains all the user controls' view models within it.For example:

Parent Page (with form and ParentViewModel)
-->ChildControl1 (uses ViewModel1 which is passed from ParentViewModel.ViewModel1 property)
-->ChildControl2 (uses ViewModel2 which is passed from ParentViewModel.ViewModel2 property)
-->ChildControl3 (uses ViewModel3 which is passed from ViewModel2.ViewModel3 property)

My question is how do I retrieve the view data when the form is submitted? It seems the view data cannot bind to the ParentViewModel:public string Save(ParentViewModel viewData)...

as viewData.ViewModel1 and viewData.ViewModel2 are always null. Is there a way I can perform a custom binding?

Ultimately I need the form to be able to cope with a dynamic number of user controls and perform an asynchronous submission without postback. I'll cross those bridges when I come to them but I mention it now so any answer won't preclude this functionality.

Web Forms :: Programmatically Submitting A Form To Another Site

May 21, 2010

I'm not sure the best place to ask this...not even sure the best way to ask it.

I manage a library website, and there are a number of different database products that can be searched. I'm trying to build a black box application to sit behind the home page. Here's an example of what might get submitted to said application.

searchType = "books"
searchEngine = "library catalog"
keywords = "some keywords"

See, the idea is that I might be doing various search boxes throughout the site, and I want to keep the actual HTML forms as simple as possible and simply let an ASP.Net application do the rest of the work. For example, figuring out whether or not the search engine using a GET or a POST method, parsing the keywords to determine the best way to render them, and sending the appropriate hidden values.

Probably, most of these databases use GET, so I can simply use a Response.Redirect after creating the query string, but I think some of them might use a POST, and I'm just not certain how I would take the form variables from one page (the home page, say), then essentially turn them into a virtual form on this middle man/black box application, and then programmatically submit that virtual form to another site, such that the user never sees or knows about that intermediate page.

I've seen this:

[URL]

But that isn't what I actually want to do, because I don't want to retrieve the result of the submission through a WebResponse...rather, I want the form to actually send the user to the new site.

Web Forms :: Submitting Form Data With Many-to-Many Relationship?

Dec 4, 2010

I'm quite confused about how to implement a many-to-many relationship and my domain model. Let's say I'm creating a recipe box web application and I have three tables called Category (categoryID, categoryName), RecipeCategory (categoryID, recipeID), and Recipes (recipeID, recipeName, recipeDescription). If I were to present this information as an ASP.NET application and wanted to insert a new recipe and category, am I responsible for writing the logic to insert the information in the RecipeCategory table OR is it possible to set RecipeCategory.categoryID and RecipeCategory.recipeID automatically with default values based on newly inserted records in the related tables? If I'm responsible for writing the logic to insert values in RecipeCategory.categoryID and RecipeCategory.recipeID is that a trigger? What's the best way of implementing this?

Unobtrusive Javascript Validation Not Submitting Form In Asp.net Mvc 3

Dec 24, 2010

I'm using the latest RC with asp.net mvc 3, and have turned on unobtrusive javascript validation and added the necessary scripts to the page.
