Feb 22, 2010What is the recommended "cleanest" way to manage a partial that appears on many views and also requires a viewmodel (assume it needs to get some data from a DB).

Mar 5, 2011is there some way to share a partial razor view between areas? For example a login partial, it is found if i use @Html.Partial("_LoginPartial") but the URLs Html.ActionLink generates are local to the calling area (even though the partial itself is not part of the area).
_LoginPartial.cshtml is in /Views/Shared/_LoginPartial.cshtml
Calling view is inside /Areas/Somearea/Views
Links generated are like: [URL]
But should always be: [URL]

It's convinient to me to divide menus for pieces. But number of partials keep growing and it is getting harder to find concrete partial in Shared folder. Can I store partials in view folder which uses this partial? Html.RenderPartial() doesn't have such parameter as Controller Name so I think that it's impossible. But if there are any solutions to solve this inconvinience?
Best Practice For Using JavaScript On Partials And Views In MVC?
Feb 25, 2010I started removing part of a view into a partial so that it could be reused on another view. However, I got stuck because there are some JavaScript functions on the original view that call some of the functions that belong to the partial. It seems wrong to call functions that are defined on the partial from the containing view (and vice-versa). What is the best practice for this situation?

Aug 21, 2010I am currently trying to display multiple items on a single page. I am not sure as to how to tackle this. What I have is a database table that has all the page data in. I have this run as a PagesController and this works fine. However what I would like to do is, if say the Products page is selected via the menu, I want to pull back not only the Products page html but also get all the products, and even be able to pull them through via category. I was trying to use a partial view, but I can't get it to work. The same would be for other pages, having partial views to display the other content, ie if Gallery is selected, the page html for Gallery shows and it then can push to a partial view that pulls all the gallery images from the gallery db table and so on.
Maybe I am tackling this the wrong way. I have the pages stored in the db to allow for a CMS system I have setup. Maybe I need to use models for all the other items(Products, Gallery, Videos and such) and use the partial for the page html?

We have some CSS, partials, and master view files that we would like to somehow share between solutions. I have tried linking files but that has to be done for each and every file (cannot link directories, it seems). Does anyone have a tried and true system for doing this sort of thing for larger sites (other than putting everything in one massive solution)?

Apr 29, 2010Is it possible to specify that multiple roles are required inside the authorization element of the web.config file? I currently have this block in one web.config of my site for a specific directory:

I've just identified a special case where a person with two lower-level permissions than Global and Region should also have access to this directory. Roughly, I want something like this:

I realize I probably should have a new role for this scenario, but I'd like to avoid that.

I am building a web application that will require some pages, but not all, to use a SSL (https:). How do I designate a particular page to be one or the other? Or do I need to create two separate projects and just have them pass the user back and forth as needed?
I am using Visual Studio 2008, with the Web Site Administration Tool handling users and roles. However I will also be handling very secure data such as social security numbers and the like.
MVC Application Suddenly Requiring Authorization For Everything After Windows / IIS Reinstall
Nov 20, 2010I recently reinstalled Windows (on an SSD!) and I'm in the process of setting up IIS and all my web projects. One of my MVC project keeps asking for authentication on everything, including on resources like .css files and images. I'm using the default MVC template login with a custom provider that I'm using for dev purposes. I've tried rolling back my web.config to before I moved the project file and re-set IIS, but that didn't make much of a difference -- aside from changing authentication mode from Windows to Forms. Can you see anything wrong with my config?

Security :: Obtain Domain Username Without Requiring Authentication?
Oct 6, 2010I'm bangin' my head against the wall here. I'm not even sure what I want to do is possible.
I have developed an ASP.NET app that will only be run on my local network (which incorporates a Windows Domain). It's running on IIS 7.5.I want to do this:

My problem is this: If I don't turn off Anonymous Authentication and ASP.NET Impersonation, I don't get the results I'm looking for. (if Anonymous is allowed, I get an empty string returned for username, and if ASP.NET impersonation is allowed, then "username" is always whatever account is associated with impersonation, like "Network Service"). If I turn those off and then turn Windows Authentication on, it works, but only after a dialog box presents itself asking for the Windows Credentials.
What I'm trying to do is NOT require the users to log in. Since they've already logged into the domain when they signed on their computer, I'd like to just allow them access to the ASP.NET application I've written, and identify who they are (based on their previous Windows login) using the line of code above. I don't need them to re-authenticate, because they're already authenticated from their domain login.I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, or how to accomplish this. It seems the closest I've gotten to what I want so far, is to turn off all authentication EXCEPT for Windows Authentication. It works then, but only if the user first types in his/her username and password again in a dialog box. Is there any way to avoid having them type in their username and password again, but still be able to identify their domain username?
Security :: Login Control Stops Working Requiring It Be Deleted And Replaced
Mar 3, 2011I have found that eventually the login control I place on my page will not authenticate. The solution appears to be to delete it and replace it with a new instance. Obviously this is not tenable. Can someone enlighten me as to why it might stop working for no apparent reason such that simply deleting it and putting a new instance in place will restore functionality? Update: I find it very sensitive. I just did the above described action, got it working again, found that the Authenticate event was no longer properly wired and tried to fix it by removing the '1' from the Authenticate1 in this line. That was sufficient to kill the control which required me to once again delete it and replace. I cannot believe the login control is that sensitive or no one would touch it. What gives?

Oct 31, 2010I would like to find controls in the detailsview control placed in the EmptyData Template of the gridview. I am trying to create Insert new record for the gridview control.
1. If there are existing records in the table - works fine and sets my two values: I placed Detailsview and Insert Button in the footer of the gridview. I needed to set the values of two fields. When I click on the Insert button it saves new record and sets the field with the value (code attached - works fine). I also have a popup extender that opens detailsview - this works just fine.
2, If ther are not records in the table - saves record but cannot find and set controls on the detailsview Same thing setup in the EmptyData Template. The record is saved but I cannot Find and set the field value on the control.

Which works hundred percent. Also inside this formview i have a gridview which i have created my own template. Gridview1 has 3 columns with textboxes in each column.
