Forms Authentication - Make A Folder Publicly Available

Aug 2, 2010

I am using forms authentication in a MVC 2 project.

I have this in my web.config:

<authorization>
<deny users="?" />
</authorization>

I want the /Content folder to be available to users that haven't been authenticated yet. The login view uses the css in that folder, which should be available at login time.

Security :: Folder Level Forms Authentication

Feb 15, 2010

I am trying to implement forms authentication in my application. It has a folder named
User and an .aspx Page named Welcome.aspx. I am trying to restrict Access to this page by directly typing address in the browser. For this I have done following setting in web.config:

<location path="User">
<system.web>
<authentication
mode="Forms">
<forms
loginUrl="Login.aspx"
name=".ASPXFORMSAUTH"></forms>
</authentication>
<authorization>
<deny
users="?"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>

It works fine for the first time and redirects to Login page when I type the URL directly in browser. But when I press back button in browser and again try to redirect, this time it redirects to Welcome.aspx. How can I avoid such a situation (Don;t want to disable back button). Also If i try to Set Location Path="User", it gices error i.e. I am not able to set folder level security

Security :: Forms Authentication - Deny Access To Folder / Files?

I have a web app, which contains a folder Uploads, to which users (authenticated) upload their files (for some reason it has to be a folder in the root of the web app).I want to deny access to this folder and files to all non-authenticated users.

In my web.config I have:

Expose A WCF Service Via Forms Authentication In IIS - How To Make The Metadata

Aug 16, 2010

We've got some WCF services we're hosting via IIS. The application in general uses Forms Authentication, and we'd like to continue making that available for web service clients. We just have a <authorization><deny users="?"> in our web.config and some authentication/redirection goodness that gets everything done.

The problem is we'd like for users to be able to access the metadata for the services without authentication. Can they visit /services/v1/ArtifactService.svc?wsdl anonymously and yet still require authentication for /services/v1/ArtifactService.svc/rest/GetArtifacts?studyId=123? If so, I can't figure out the right incantation in the configuration.

The best I can think of is to set an absolute URL in the metadata service behavior, but then I have to doctor the path on install anywhere we deploy. (<serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" httpGetUrl=[URL]

The Resource Type 'XXXX.XXX' Does Not Have A Publicly Visible Static Property Named '_RequiredXXXX'?

Jan 31, 2011

"'ErrorMessageResourceType' property specified was not found."

{"The resource type 'XXXX.XXXXXX' does not have a publicly visible static property named '_RequiredXXXX'."}

I'm getting this error when my Create.aspx view is called and steps over that line:

<%=Html.TextBoxFor(Function(model) model.NO_DEMND, New With {.class = "txtbox", .disabled = True})%>
<%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(Function(model) model.NO_DEMND)%>

The message is there in the Ressources file, I think the problem is deeper than that but i'm having a hard time finding it. It pops this error very early on the ASPX page. It's the first model component it goes thru, i tried removing this one and it's the same message for all the model.xxxx components. I guess it's an error somewhere in the linkage. The .EDMX is correct and I get no build errors,

Make IIS Virtual Directory A Folder Again

Jun 29, 2011

I have web code that was trying to process a pdf file and it wasn't working - I was getting a path "is not a valid virtual path" error, so in IIS (O/S is Windows 2008 R2) I made the folder a virtual folder. That didn't work and I got it working in another way so I want to make that folder just a regular folder again and not a virtual directory.

Also, I don't understand the way in which I got it working. I had the site working on one server and not another, so I compared them. I realized where it was working I hadn't added an entry to the web.config file that I was trying to read. This is the config entry:

<add key="PdfFolder" value="wherever"/>and this is my code:

Code:
fileName = Server.MapPath(AppSettings("PdfFolder")) & "pdf\_FLYER.pdf"

The absence of the config file entry allowed the code to work. Its presence gave me the virtual directory error. So it's like Server.MapPath resolved to the correct place with a null argument.

Visual Studio :: Make VWD Work Entirely In The "2008" Public Folder?

Jan 6, 2010

VWD 2008 Express. Windows 7 (64 bit). I want all my work and settings for VWD 2008 to be stored in the public (shared) documents folder. There are settings under Tools>Options to specify where projects and templates are stored, that is part of the answer. However, whenever I open VWD it always creates a "Visual Studio 2008" folder in my personal Documents folder where it apparently stores some settings. How can I make VWD work entirely in the "Visual Studio 2008" public folder for everything and NOT create the personal folder?

Web Forms :: Folder To Store WebControl, Without Actually Creating That Folder On Website

Dec 16, 2010

I want to create a folder to store some web controls, so the site structure doesn't have a zillion files in the root.

Except that if I create an ordinary folder, that folder is also visible on the web site. MSDN said you cannot put it in App_Code, and it doesn't really make sense to put it in other special folder like App_Data or App_Theme.

AJAX :: AutoCompleteExtender - Authentication Failure (forms Authentication)

Apr 15, 2010

'm using the AutoCompleteExtender from the AJAX control toolkit on my aspx page - I have it wired up to a WCF service that is returning a string array and everything works happily.

If I change my service definition to include a demand for the caller to be authenticated, like so:

<OperationContract(), PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Authenticated:=True)> _Public Function GetLookupValues(ByVal prefixText As String, ByVal count As Integer, ByVal contextKey As String) As String()

Then the autocomplete extender stops working, and I get an authentication error in the service. The service is set up to use ASPNetCompatibility mode, and I was hoping that the extender would pass the authentication credentials for my logged in user - does anyone know how to make this work?
