Pass An Enity-framework Table/collection As A Parameter Into A Function (asp.net/C#)?
Dec 7, 2010
Is this possible?
using (Entities db = new Entities())
{
LoadDropDownList(ddlFirst, db.MyTable , (bool)(myMember.Id == 0), (int)myMember.RevenueRangeID);
LoadDropDownList(ddlSecond, db.OtherTable , (bool)(myMember.Id == 0), (int)myMember.OtherID);
}
I am stumbling on what the type of the second parameter should be - I am essentially trying to pass in the Entity-Framework 'table' into a generic routine that loads the DropDownList with data from the 'MyTable' table using custom logic/filtering.SInce I do the same thing about 6 times for 6 different dropdownlist/table combos I wanted to use a generic function to accomplish this.
Basically, I have a gridview that is opened in a new window from the parent window. It has a bunch of records with a view button to view the details of each record (which stays in the same newly opened window). I have a calendar in the parent window that accepts a Date querystring parameter to set the current date on the calendar at page load. I'm just trying to refresh the calendar in the parent window to match the date of the label in the newly opened window. All the code below is in the newly opened window. The .Net code-behind below refers to when that view button is clicked and everything is populated. At the end, I call the js to refresh the parent window and pass the value of the LabelScheduleDate as the querystring parameter. Now the label comes through as '03/25/2010' in the code-behind, but when I pass it to the js, it comes through as '0.00005970149253731343' in the end querystring. I'm not really sure what is making the value change, and I want to pass it as just text. Do I need to pass it as a string object? I tried but I don't think I was doing it right.
JavaScript Function function RefreshParent(inputDate) { window.opener.location = window.opener.location + "?Date=" + inputDate; } .NET Code-Behind Protected Sub RadGridOnlineRequests_ItemCommand(ByVal source As Object, ByVal e As Telerik.Web.UI.GridCommandEventArgs) Handles RadGridOnlineRequests.ItemCommand If e.CommandName = "ViewOnlineRequest" Then ' populates LabelScheduleDate among other controls values ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript( _ Me, Me.GetType(), "clientScript", "RefreshParent(" & LabelScheduleDate.Text & ");", True) End If End Sub
I'm using a CustomValidator control to validate some controls in a GridView. I have the validation working perfectly on the client and the server, but would ideally like to pass the GridView ID into the client function so I can move it out into a separate
.js file. The signature for my client function is:
function valOrder_ClientValidate(source, args) { // Code here}
And my CustomValidator control looks like:

Is there a way I can pass an additional parameter into this function?
know if the followin is supported in .net framework 4.0?I have a sql stored procedure with one of its parameter as Hierarchy data type( i suppose its a table valued parameter).. trying to drag this stored procedure onto my linq design studio is not being allowed?
I have a label "lbl1" that I am trying to locate in a content page from the Master page. I want to do it dynamically so I am trying to pass the name of the control (which in this case is lbl1) through as a parameter. I don't get an error, it just doesn't work. If I do an alert to see what the string "temp" looks like, it is correct, but iit seems as if Javascript ignores it. I believe it has something to do with the '<%= not being interpreted correctly by the browser I'm sure it is a simple solution, but I can't figure it out!
I have a gridview inside a user control bind to an object datasource. Now I want to bind the object datasource with a parameter from parent page. For this purpose I defined a public property in user control but how do I pass it with object datasource? I am calling from parent page like myusercontrol.parameter=querystring["id"]; How to bind object datasource with my parameter?
I have a page with some datasources in it. I am doing reenginering of the page itself and would like to split some parts of the page in several user controls. In my code I have an ObjectDataSource object with the following params
This piece of code automatically bind the hidden field "txtAlbumId" to the datasource. In my revision this datasource should be moved to a user control. What is the best way to handle a scenario like this?

I just like to know how to pass a parameter to the datasource of my dllItemCodeFooter and dllItemCodeEdit Drowndownlist which calls my getItemCodeList(decimal categoryID) method in the code behind. The value of the parameter will be seletectedValue of the first dropdownlist ddlCategoryFooter or ddlCategoryEdit).I know it could be done in code behind, but i prefer to bind my datasource in asp page. I want to achieve something like this DataSource='<%# getItemCodeList(ddlCategoryEdit.Seletected)%>'
i have dll in which i have writter function for filling dataset, so i want to pass field name of the table as a parameter to thid dlli dont know how to give quotes to the parameter.i am passing the parameter as a string
I've got a GridView on a ASP.Net page. I would like to set the DataSource of the Gridview to a trackable collection of Entity Framework objects. I though the code should look like this:
I'm trying to have a View where the user can add items in a collection without having to go to a new View (the scenario is a sort of CV site where the user adds info about work experience, skills, etc, and it would seem absurd to go to a new View to add each little thing).
So I have an edit View that shows a number of text boxes for the already added items, and there's an ajax call to go to a method to fetch the collection fresh if the user adds an item.
I'm new to LINQ and EF and I seem to be having trouble working this out.
I have a many-to-many relationship between my Location and Region tables. When adding or editing a Location, my interface allows the user to check any number of related Regions. If they click OK, I need to add any new relationships that were checked, and delete any existing relationships that have been unchecked. My basic code is shown below.
However, this code doesn't work. Lower down, the line location.Regions.Contains(region) returns false even when the location already is related to the region. The issue appears to be because the region is from my populated listbox that was initialized earlier and is no longer part of the current EF context. But if I try and add it, I get an error that there is already a Region with that ID.
It seems like what I want to do is change this line to something like location.Regions.Contains((r) => r.RgnID == region.RgnID) so I'm only testing for a particular ID. But this gives me the error "Cannot convert lambda expression to type 'TrailCalendar.Region' because it is not a delegate type."
I don't understand this error but, either way, I'm not sure how I can test if the relationship already exists without reloading a bunch of data, which I'd like to avoid.
I want to be able to update a model and all its collections of child objects in the same view. I have been referred to these examples: http://haacked.com/archive/2008/10/23/model-binding-to-a-list.aspx and http://blog.stevensanderson.com/2010/01/28/editing-a-variable-length-list-aspnet-mvc-2-style/ .
For example, I have an object Consultant, that has a collection of "WorkExperiences". All this is in an Entity Framework model. In the view, the simple properties of the Consultant object is no problem, but the collection I cannot get a textbox to show up for. I tried following the examples in the links above, but it doesn't work. The problem is, in those examples the model is just a list (not an object with a child list property). And also, the model again is an EF model. And for some reason that doesn't seem to work as in those examples.
[Code]....
This stuff with the EditorTemplate works fine in Phil Haack's sample project, which I downloaded to try, but here, with the EF model or whatever the problem is, I don't get any textbox at all. The table in the view is just there as a test, because in the table I do get the rows for WorkExperiences, whether I add an empty WorkExperience object or fill out its properties doesn't matter, the rows show up for each object. But again, no textbox...
I want to know, if its possible to pass collection between pages. I mean to say i have a client-side JavaScript modal dialog on which I want to use my collection. Earlier I was using Session[] to share the value, but its becoming evil for me, as it always displays the first value. Any change in value in not updated.
So whenever my pop up is displayed I want the collection to get moved to the Child dialog. From there, i will extract the Collection, do some stuffs and again return it to parent page, preventing postbacks and session management.
In an MVC view, I'm looking for a way to determine if a parent entity's collection of child entities is empty, so I can decide if I need to call a RenderPartial() or not.
For a one-to-one I've been using the following:
<% if (Model.Book.GenreReference.EntityKey != null) %> {.....}
but I'm unsure how to do it in a one-to-many scenario, or if it can even be done without the use of Include() or Load().
i have a listview control with two textboxes in each row. i am to fill those and save their values in one/more than one database tables using a stored procedure.
i currently create a comma-separated string (using a string builder) of all the values, and then pass it as a parameter to the SP.
in the SP i extract the values, and put them into my tables.
I have a dynamic gridview which can be used to add new rows of two columns to specify a start date and an end date. I am trying to use a string collection to pass in the output from the textboxes to a parameterized query as shows. I am getting an incorrect syntax near 9 error. How can I make this work? I need to use the stringbuilder.
protected void btnSaveIterations_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { int rowIndex = 0; StringCollection sc = new StringCollection(); if (ViewState["CurrentTable"] != null) { DataTable dtCurrentTable = (DataTable)ViewState["CurrentTable"]; if (dtCurrentTable.Rows.Count > 0) { for (int i = 1; i <= dtCurrentTable.Rows.Count; i++) { //extract the TextBox values TextBox box1 = (TextBox)Gridview1.Rows[rowIndex].Cells[1].FindControl("start_iteration"); TextBox box2 = (TextBox)Gridview1.Rows[rowIndex].Cells[2].FindControl("end_iteration"); start_date = box1.Text; end_date = box2.Text;...............
I am creating one Json array object and trying to pass it in MVC controller action method but i am getting null paramerter; as per my knowledge json only maps .net primitive datatypes.... so it assign null value.
Note: when i have look at request object i found that there are three parameter of created array. But how to get that value as parameter of function?
