2.0 Method To Serve HTML Snippets Via XHR To Client?
Feb 11, 2010
A static web page (html) uses XHR calls to an ASP.NET page The .NET page retrieves information from a remote server using web services The .NET page returns an HTML "snippet" that is inserted into the static HTML page I'm getting hung up on how to deal with the HTML snippet generation on the .NET (2.0) page. I've thought about something like this in a generic .ashx page:
public void ProcessRequest (HttpContext context)
{
context.Response.Write("<ul>");
//assume "people" is a list of data coming from the external web service
foreach (string person in people)
{
context.Response.Write("<li>" + person + "</li>");
}
context.Response.Write("</ul>");
}
It just seems a big "ugly". Has anyone done this another - and possibly more efficient/elegant - way?

Are there any free products or ninja methods to merge PDFs in a commercial application and serve as one PDF for the end user? I see iTextSharp does this, but we cannot comply with the GPL license and I was looking for a free method before a paid method.

do you think it would be difficult to write a framework where mvc compares last html it output to the current html we want to output, and instead of sending the entire html, figure out what has changed and generate js code that will do the updating as compared to previous html? (presuming nothing was manually changed on the client using js).

I have an aspx page which retrieves messages from a database. One message is an instruction to the user to copy some xml from a file. I'm trying to tell the user that they need to copy the code lying between "<?xml" and "</reports>".
The problem is that when the message is displayed to the user the line containing the quoted code is missing. It appears that the page is taking "<?xml" and "</reports>" as instructions to the page and trying to action the tags. I just want to display these characters on the my page. how I can get these code snippets to display?

I'm having trouble exposing a method to a silverlight client from a WCF service although I can expose properties.
My WCF service has a LoadDeal method which returns a Deal object
public Deal LoadDeal(int dealerId)
{
Deal d = new Deal();
d.LoadDeal(dealerId);
return d;
[Code]....
This works fine and the Refernce property can be accessed from the silverlight client.
But when I try to expose a method such as the CancelEdit method below, I can't find a way to expose this method to the silverlight client:
public void CancelEdit()
{
//Add logic to cancel changes here.
}
I've tried adding the DataMember annotation but the compiler complains. I've re-compiled without an annotation and then updated the service reference but nothing seems to be working.

I have an asp:DataGrid with templated columns. Here's one of those columns:
<asp:TemplateColumn>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="btnDetails"
Runat="server"
CommandName="details"
Text="Details"
Font-Size="0.8em"
CommandArgument='a=<%# Eval("a")%>&b=<%# Eval("b")%>' />
<...>
When the command fires, the CommandArgument comes back unevaluated - it is the string a=<%# Eval("a")%>&b=<%# Eval("b")%>, not a=5&b=6 as I want. What's wrong with how I'm doing this?

I find myself doing a ton of jquery these days so I started to abstract out some of the common things I do into snippets. I look forward to sharing these with the community, but i'm running into an issue right now. The literals in snippets are defined by adding dollar signs ($) around the name of the literal to delimite where the value you would like to provide will go. This is difficult because jQuery uses the dollar sign notation in order to use a lot of it's functionality. Does anyone know the escape sequence for snippets so I am able to use the dollar sign, and have my snippets still function?

I would like to design two web forms A and B and then display them as one web page? Is that possible? Conceptually the reason is that I would like to design small html stubs with some user controls and then display these pages in various orders as needed. So if I had 4 stubs, A B C D and the web page needs to see D and A in that order it would.

I use DevExpress and have a lot of templates which I use in my Web Application - popup windows with certain styles, menus, rounded panels so on. Of course, I don't want to type the same markup hundred times but also don't want to find this markup in whole application in order to paste it again. I use snippets in code-behind for these purposes. But what about markup?I downloaded it but I see only code-behind refactoring and still can't find how can I use something like snippets in aspx page.

I would like to manually send an HTTP 40x error code to client from a web method in c# asp.net web service.
Specifically I need to send 400 (Bad request) or 401 (Unauthorized).
I was thinking about the flow to look like:
if (a <= 0)
{
//send HTTP Error 400 - Bad request to client
return;
}
Is it possible? How?

I am following your code. In "FaceBookConnect.Authorize", if a user is logged in in Facebook, it prompts for authentication. But if the user is not logged in, it redirects to facebook home page. I would like to create a pop up instead. Is it possible to do so?

saving a static HTML page on the client, so that I can then upload it back to the server? I'm building a Gantt style page, then allowing the user to "draw" on it using VML (This will change to SVG once we are off IE6). I need to be able to save the page (including the VML) to temp and then upload it back to the server as a static HTML file.
