ADO.NET :: Insert Null Into Datetime Filed In Sql From Textbox?
Feb 16, 2011
I have a calendar control that sits inside a gridview and when i insert into the sql db it inserts the defaults of 111900, how can i insert Null instead of the default date.
Protected Sub lnkSubmitDental_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lnkSubmitDental.Click
Dim userlogon As String = Split(Current.User.Identity.Name, "")(1)
i've created a gridview and connected to the database programatically. now i want to insert a textbox above the header field of the name field. if i enter the name in the textbox it should display that only.. e.g i have three header name, pwd, sex i want to create the textbox above the name header. now i enter the name jhon in the textbox then the gridview should display
I have 2 textboxes for BEGINNING DATE and END DATE. First I compare the dates so that the END DATE is bigger than the BEGINNING DATE. This is OK with the validators.
MY PROBLEM IS: If the END DATE“S TEXTBOX is empty, then it should insert into the SQL DB, a null value. The field has a DATETIME type.
Since my INSERT Query requires a parameter when i call the ADD METHOD, it returns that the END DATE parameter is required.
I have a column in my database which contains null value. Now after retrieving value from database i want to store that value in my txtbox. I am getting
[DBTableFieldIsNullException: Field 'Title' is NULL] exception.
problem is thatĀ if users enter text in TB and click on button it update columns data but if they don't enter any thing in textbox it enter space in Table like:
Id Behtop Service1 Service2
1 1111 Estate 2 2222 Home Home1
I want if users don't enter any thing in text box it insert in table "NULL".How I can do it?
I have one text box for accepting date. I want to store date column inĀ database is null when the text box value is null and how to bind the this null value to text box when i retrieve.
How should i insert null values into a database. I have textbox1 and the textbox2 will convert the value out of textbox1, when i the time i click save and the textbox1 is empty i got an error, "Conversion from string "" to type 'Date' is not valid." i just want to insert null value if the textbox is empty.
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
i have 103 column in database 1 column is id, 1 is user ,1 datetime, 100 button on webpage 1 textbox to input value , button1 clicked then value in textbox will insert into database with user:=user.identity.nam datetime=datetime.now colum4 will get value from textbox......button2 for colum2 and buton100 for column100, if i use dataset i need 100 datataset, some other way to solve it ??
I am using Visual studio 2010 express and I have a details view databinded to an sql database table. When I use the Insert option on the view it causes an error due to it trying to insert a null into the primary key field. If the Insert function does not create a new primary key entry how is it created?
I want to retrieve a record which stored in a SQL table as datetime type. How to detect it to see if it is not null value before assign it to a text box? Because in SQL, it displays as '1900-01-01 00:00:00.000'
For example, I want to code something like below:
dim dst as new dataset
if dst.tables(0).rows(0)("OrderDate") is not null then txtOrderDate.text=dst.tables(0).rows(0)("OrderDate") End if
Passing a null or nothing value to a datatime datatype database field (Access)
I've been all over the internet looking at this and I have tried dozens of methods without success.
I've read a few forums where, some say you can not assign a null value or a nothing value to a datetime datatype field. Then I see others where they say...'I got it to work'.
If this is true (that you can not pass a null value), how come I can create a record in the Access table and not assign a value to this date field? (The field is defined as not required).
Yet, once a value is in the field, I can not update that field back to a null or a nothing value.
So I'm hoping someone has the definitive answer to this.
I am using VB.Net Vs 2003 and updating an Access data base.
I have an update statement (see below) that uses parameters for updating.
what will work, so that I can put back the null or nothing value?
Or if it really can not be done, I guess I'll have to take that as truth.
I get a recordset returned from DB and try to load it. However sometimes field "LastRun" may be empty (NULL). when i have this it compiles fine but errors out when value is null m_LastRun = Convert.ToDateTime(r["LastRun"]); when I take out Convert.ToDateTime it doesn't even compile.
I have a class with properties for stuff like FileNumber, OpenedDate, ClosedDate etc. When I Initialise the class I set the datetime variables to Date.MinValue.Then when I populate my textboxes I check if the value of the date variables are Date.Minvalue and I set the textbox text to an empty string.
Code: If(File.OpenedDate = Date.MinValue, String.Empty, File.OpenedDate.ToString("yyyy/MM/dd")) However whe I try to save the data to my sql server db I get a datetime out of range error. What is the correct way to handle these null values in my date columns?
Got a nullable datetime member on my viewmodel.the moment it hit my controller action, the viewmodel's modelstate allready are invalid (because the member is null).Forgot...how that works? (using MVC2)Basically my viewmodel have a social security number, passport number and passport expiracy date.If the ssn is entered, I want to ignore the two passport related fields, so I made the expiracy date member nullable.
Like all other viewmodels in this app, each model have it's own validation function that will do validation, and in there I add an error that the date is required or not valid (if using passport number). mvc itself should not care about the date at all.I dont want to give the date a default value, because then the date will show when the form loads, and it must be an empty field (unless I already got a date of course.
I'm using MVC 2 with some Models from a LinqToSql project that I built. I see that when I post back to a Controller Action after editing a form that has a DateTime field from the Model, the MVC Html.ValidationMessageFor() helper will nicely display an error beside the Date text box. This seems to happen automatically when the you test ModelState.IsValid() in the Controller Action, as if the MVC model binding automatically knows that the DateTime field cannot be empty.
My question is... I have some other string fields in these LinqToSql generated classes that are Not-Nullable (marked as Not Nullable in Sql Server which passes thourgh to the LinqToSql generated classes), so why doesn't Mr. MVC pick up on those as well and display a "Required" message in the ValidationMessageFor() placeholders I have added for those fields?
Sure, I have successfully added the MetadataType(typeof<t>) buddy classes to cover these Non-nullable string fields, but it sure does seem redundant to add all this metadata in buddy classes when the LinqToSql generated classes already contain enough info that MVC could sniff out. It MVC validation works with DateTime automatically, why not these Not-nullable fields too?
I have a date field in a typed dataset that created from database.
I get an NULL Value exception when I try to enter some null value. I am not able to set the Nullvalue property of the DateTime field in XSD to other value other than Throw Exception.
I use FormView with ObjectDataSource and class. I have a TextBox binded to a DateTime? property. When TextBox.Text property is empty i want to set the property of my class to null but the value is 1.1.1 00:00:00. My Workaround:
[Code]....
Is there a way to set this property to null without this workaround? Is this a bug in DataSource or is this a feature by design?
