I have a query which need to search on account table where search criteria looks at either partial name(string column) or partial accountid (integer column).
Linq doesn't allow tostring on integer column to find partial search. The example would be search account number which begins with 124. There might be account numbers like: 1247, 1249 etc which need to be returned. On the name side, searching for string that begins with joh would return john, johk, johp etc.
FYI: The query should return Account table records not annonymous types.
I'm unable to fetch just one integer value using this LINQ-query. LINQ seems to return everything as IEnumerable but I don't want that. First query should return just one string value which is then used in another query. That one should return integer which is also return value for method:
public static long GetTableIdByTableName(string name) { var result = (from aTable in objScope.Extent<Table>() where aTable.Name == name select { aTable.Id }); return ??????????? }
I need some guidance for an application I am working on. I have searched the web and the forum and found parts that answer my questions but I want to do this correctly. My solution uses LINQ to SQL to model the db and I have a repository that is querying my db everytime a controller needs to get some data for the view. I am initially anticipating a maximum of only about a few hundreds hits per day (if that). The website is a directory, with listings and requires a search functionality.
1. What options should I consider to avoid having my repository query the db everytime
2. The site contains a 'search' option, how can I implement this against my repository?
I guess I'm really looking for someone to point me in the right direction. So far I've looked at 'caching' the LINQ to SQL model and Lucene.NET but both seem overkill or am I missing the point?
I want to simply search a database for a certain string, how can i accomplish this using linq and EF (if using these tools for it are not practical). I just want to take a string and search my usernames, the search should be able to handle things only parts of the username (using some sort of 'contains' function)
I want to add a search engine to my website. I want it to handler boolean searches and give me a list of results in order or best match. I need it to be able to work with LINQ, because I want to add additional where clauses to the final query that gets run. I am looking for the best open source .NET search engine that works with LINQ. I like lucene.net but the problem is the LINQ interface (LINQ to Lucene) hasn't been updated since 2008. Are there any good options out there?
I have a Dictionary<string, bool> where key - control's ID and value - it's visible status to set:
var dic = new Dictionary<string, bool> { { "rowFoo", true}, { "rowBar", false }, ... };
Some of controls can be null, i.e. dic.ToDictionary(k => this.FindControl(k), v => v) will not work because key can't be null. I can do next:
dic .Where(p => this.FindControl(p.Key) != null) .ForEach(p => this.FindControl(p.Key).Visible = p.Value); // my own extension method
but this will call FindControl() twice for each key. How to avoid double search and select only those keys for which appropriate control exists? Something like:
var c= FindControl(p.Key); if (c!= null) return c; but using LINQ.
I trying to create a search mechanism for records in a EDM based on text entered on a text box in a web page.
For example, if I enter a partial name of a customer and/or state abrebiation for that customer on the Text Box (abc, TX)s, I want to search name and state fields in a Customer table in my database for matching customers.
I found a solution with the namespaceSystem.Linq.Dynamic, but for some reason it is not working. It does not expose the Search() method. Here is the code I am using to perform the search;
I have two text boxes for the user to enter UserName & First Name, both these fields are optional and not mandatory to fill.
once the user presses the Search button, i execute the following query to fetch matching records.
[Code]....
The problem is, in cases where User leaves both the textbox or one of the textbox empty/blank, in that case that particular field should be removed from where clause.
More like if something is entered then search for that particular record otherwise search for all the records.
I am using dynamic data entities linq to sql project. For my test project I have one table, with 10 columns and a single primary key for example. Almost all the columns are varchars.I can get the basic project up and running fine - update, delete, insert etc.ince it has no foreign keys, there are no search filters rendered. I was wondering if there was an easy way to generate a set of filters for the columns for this table. So a First name and last name search box. Is there a way to generate these filters for chosen columns and is there a way to generate these for all the columns
for example, above each of the columns in the grid there might be a text box ( I am not too fussed where the text boxes are rendered as such). Each of the text boxes will act as a filter for that column (doing a SQL 'like')
The gist of the problem is that we have an alumni table (one record per person) and also a couple of other tables (one to many) that have degree info and interest info. In a search screen in our app you can search for criteria that spans all three tables (there are actually more fields and tables than shown in the example below but I am trying to keep it simple).
The code below works (properly returns people without degrees for example) but still feels a little clunky or over-engineered to me. Are there easier ways to do this? NOTE: I have been through quite a few iterations/approaches to making the correct data be returned.
I want a word search i doing the search like this , but it is giving character wherever there is in the string,if i give two character like ok it is searching for a full string where ever Ok is there select * from table1 where textfield like '%word%' this query would match word but also wordabc how can i make it aware of delimitions
I am trying to write a simple search form for our site. Here is my delima... I am trying to figure out that if there is nothing to search for in one textbox then search in the next textbox. The problem is that I dont know how to format my search string: For Example:
As a newbie coming from a Java background with tag libraries I wonder if there is a simple possibility to render areas depending on backend values.For example if I have search form I do not want to render the table for the search results as long as the user hasn't pressed the search button. Of course I can iterate over the model containing an empty list but this does not allow to suppress rendering the whole table.Using web forms I would just control the visibility of the affected tag(s) in the code behind file but how do I do this with ASP.NET MVC?Can I use a partital view for a case like this? But I think I would have the same problem. How can I determine if a partial view is rendered (e.g. the whole result table with header)?
I made a usercontrol consisting of an AJAX tab control, a textbox, and a gridview. The gridview is pulling data from a SQL database. When the gridview is outside of the tab control and I begin to enter text into the textbox, quicksearch begins to filter the information in the gridview. When i put the gridview and textbox inside an AJAX tab control quicksearch does not work. How do i need to structure the textbox and the gridview on an ajax update panel to get it to work?
i have some text boxs in a page and in the same page there will be a table 'grid' like for holding the search result.When the user start editing and of the textbox above, the search must start by sending all textboxs values to the server 'ajax', and get back with the results to fill the below grid.
Notes:This grid should support paging, sorting by clicking on headers and it will contains some controls beside the results such as checkboxs for boolean values and links for opening details in another page.
I know many ways to do this some of them are:1- updatepanel around all of these controls and thats it "fast dirty solution"
2- send the search criteria using ajax request using JQuery post function for example and get back the JSON result, and using a template will draw the grid "clean but will take time to finish and will be harder to edit later".
3- ....My question is:What do you think will be the best choice to implement this scenario? because i face this scenario too much, and want to know which implementation will be better regarding performance, optimization, and time to finish.
I have Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 installed on my machine. When I bring up the Find and Replace box in 2008 in any project the 'Look at these file types:' option is blank however in 2005 it keeps defaulting to the file type of RemoveFile. If I don't remember to clear it then it causes my search to fail. Does any one know how do I reset this value or remove this default option so the file type is not set and it looks at every file type when I search for a word.
I have a database filled with information about a bunch of different articles. I'm trying to add a search mechanisim to the site where you would type in what you are looking for, and it would search through the articles finding the most appropriate article. In my database I have a bunch of different fields that will help find the best article. For example, for each article, there is a title, description, category, a bunch of tags, Number of page views, number of votes, and the sum of all the vote scores. All this informaiton i believe can be used to gather the most relevent article based on the persons search terms. The problem is I don't know what to do with this information. What I would like to do is have a scoring system where the highest score is the first result and the lowest score is the last result. Where the first result is the most relevent.
So for example: The user types in "Korean War" it looks through all the articles, and gives all the articles with "Korean War" in the title + 1, all the tags with "Korean" or "War" + .1, then adds the number of views/1000, and then adds the average vote/4. (I just made that scoring system up on the spot, I would need to do some testing of course). Then it would sort the articles based upon the score it recieved. Is there anyway to do this with a select statement where I can run all of the calculations and then sort them with an "ORDER BY" command? Or would i have to have the server side code do the calculations store them in an array, and then sort them in the array? Or is there a better way of doing this that I might not know of (which is certainly possible).
