C# - Avoid Double Control Search In LINQ Query?

Jun 23, 2010

I have a Dictionary<string, bool> where key - control's ID and value - it's visible status to set:

var dic = new Dictionary<string, bool>
{
{ "rowFoo", true},
{ "rowBar", false },
...
};

Some of controls can be null, i.e. dic.ToDictionary(k => this.FindControl(k), v => v) will not work because key can't be null. I can do next:

dic
.Where(p => this.FindControl(p.Key) != null)
.ForEach(p => this.FindControl(p.Key).Visible = p.Value); // my own extension method

but this will call FindControl() twice for each key. How to avoid double search and select only those keys for which appropriate control exists? Something like:

var c= FindControl(p.Key);
if (c!= null)
return c;
but using LINQ.

ADO.NET :: Linq Search - Dynamic Query Based On User Input?

Jan 12, 2011

I have two text boxes for the user to enter UserName & First Name, both these fields are optional and not mandatory to fill.

once the user presses the Search button, i execute the following query to fetch matching records.

[Code]....

The problem is, in cases where User leaves both the textbox or one of the textbox empty/blank, in that case that particular field should be removed from where clause.

More like if something is entered then search for that particular record otherwise search for all the records.

Is there some solution to prevent select all in the whole page, or whole aplication itself?

DataSource Controls :: Prevent Injection On Search Query From TextBox Control?

Jun 1, 2010

I've been reading up on SQL Injection and want to go back and implement some measures to prevent these kinds of potential attacks.For example, on our company intranet, we have an address book feature and a search function so the user is able to look a company or a person up from the database/The user will enter their query into a TextBox control and click the Submit button, calling the following function:addybookDS1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [addressbook] WHERE COMPANY LIKE '%" + search1 + "%' OR CONTACT LIKE '%" + search1 + "%' OR LASTNAME LIKE '%" + search1 + "%' OR EMAIL LIKE '%" + search1 + "%'"search1 is the TextBox controlI had previously implemented this measure:search1 = Replace(search1, "'", "''")But I want to know if there is more I can do here and how I can go about doing it.

using sql server 2005.I need to query some nchar fields to see if any of them contain string with double quotes (char(34)).whats the syntax to do this? I was thinking something like this but I think the first query would get exactly the text Char(34) when I only want to get the double quotes:SELECT fieldA FROM myTable where fieldA LIKE '%char(34)%'ORSELECT fieldA FROM myTable where fieldA LIKE '%'+char(34)+'%'

Avoid Loading A LINQ To SQL Object Twice When Editing It On A Website

Apr 9, 2010

I know you are all tired of this Linq-to-Sql questions, but I'm barely starting to use it (never used an ORM before) and I've already find some "ugly" things. I'm pretty used to ASP.NET Webforms old school developing, but I want to leave that behind and learn the new stuff (I've just started to read a ASP.NET MVC book and a .NET 3.5/4.0 one). So here's is one thing I didn't like and I couldn't find a good alternative to it.

In most examples of editing a LINQ object I've seen the object is loaded (hitting the db) at first to fill the current values on the form page. Then, the user modify some fields and when the "Save" button is clicked, the object is loaded for second time and then updated. Here's a simplified example of ScottGu NerdDinner site.

//
// GET: /Dinners/Edit/5
[Authorize]
public ActionResult Edit(int id) {
Dinner dinner = dinnerRepository.GetDinner(id);
return View(new DinnerFormViewModel(dinner));
}
//
// POST: /Dinners/Edit/5
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post), Authorize]
public ActionResult Edit(int id, FormCollection collection) {
Dinner dinner = dinnerRepository.GetDinner(id);
UpdateModel(dinner);
dinnerRepository.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id=dinner.DinnerID });
}

As you can see the dinner object is loaded two times for every modification. Unless I'm missing something about LINQ to SQL caching the last queried objects or something like that I don't like getting it twice when it should be retrieved only one time, modified and then comitted back to the database. So again, am I really missing something? Or is it really hitting the database twice (in the example above it won't harm, but there could be cases that getting an object or set of objects could be heavy stuff).

Avoid Error When No Results From Entity Query

Mar 14, 2011

I then check whether one of the result values is more recent than six months ago using an if..then like so:

If rhcexists.First.SignatureDate > Date.Today.AddMonths(-6) Then
End If

However, if there are no results returned this will return an error. Is there a way for me to tell it to act as if the date is older than six months if there is no value at all? e.g., could I in pseudo do something like:

If Exists(rhcexists.First.SignatureDate, Date.Today.AddMonths(-8)) > Date.Today.AddMonths(-6) Then

C# - Avoid Query String That Appears In The Address Bar?

Dec 11, 2010

I have applied a filter on a page using drop downs.

When i click on apply filter.. the page gets filtered. Now i click on the edit of filtered result.. which redirects me to another page.

I want to send the selected data from the drop downs from the filter page to the redirected page.. and again to the filter page.. to retain the filter. I am doing all this by sending the values in Query string.

Is there anyway.. i can avoid the visibility of the query string in the address bar and still get the values and required result.

Entity Query - Combine Into One And Avoid Merging The Results

Nov 6, 2010

I can't seem to figure out how to write this query properly. I've tried various combinations but nothing's worked yet. Below is the relevant portion of my database model: I need to select the products that match a given Category and Group, and that match a given Year, Make, Model, submodel. This I've done below:

ItemList = From P In gDataContext.Products.Include("Groups").Include("Groups.Category1").Include("LookupYearMakeModels") From G In P.Groups Where G.Category = Cat And G.Grp = Group From Y In P.LookupYearMakeModels Where Y.Year = YMM.Year And Y.Make = YMM.Make And Y.Model = YMM.Model And Y.Submodel = YMM.Submodel Select P

I now also have to select products that match the Category, and Group but are Universal (Product.Univeral = True). I'm currently writing two queries, the one above and the one below. I'm merging the results of the two by simply using ItemList.AddRange(ItemList2) ItemList2 = From P In gDataContext.Products.Include("Groups").Include("Groups.Category1") where P.Universal From G In P.Groups Where G.Category = Cat And G.Grp = Group Select P But I want to combine both queries into one and avoid merging the results. How can I do it?

Access The Group Of A Linq Group - By Query From A Nested Repeater Control?

Mar 26, 2010

I'm using a linq group by query (with two grouping parameters) and would like to use the resulting data in a nested repeater.

var dateGroups = from row in data.AsEnumerable()
group row by new { StartDate = row["StartDate"], EndDate = row["EndDate"] };
"data" is a DataTable from an SqlDataAdapter-filled DataSet. "dateGroups" is used in the parent repeater, and I can access the group keys using Eval("key.StartDate") and Eval("key.EndDate").

Since dateGroups actually contains all the data rows grouped neatly by Start/End date, I'd like to access those rows to display the data in a child repeater. To what would I set the child repeater's DataSource? I have tried every expression in markup I could think of; I think the problem is that I'm trying to access an anonymous member (and I don't know how.) In case it doesn't turn out to be obvious, what would be the expression to access the elements in each iteration of the child repeater? Is there an expression that would let me set the DataSource in the markup, or will it have to be in the codebehind on some event in the parent repeater?

Linq Query Returning Less Records Than Sql Query?

Mar 19, 2011

I am facing a big problem with simple linq query.. I am using EF 4.0..

I am trying to take all the records from a table using a linq query:

var result = context.tablename.select(x=>x);

This results in less rows than the normal sql query which is select * from tablename;

This table has more than 5 tables as child objects (foreign key relations: one to one and one to many etc)..

This result variable after executing that linq statement returns records with all child object values without doing a include statement.. I don't know is it a default behavior of EF 4.0 . I tried this statement in linqpad also..but there is no use... But interesting thing is if I do a join on the same table with another one table is working same is sql inner join and count is same..but I don't know why is it acting differently with that table only.. Is it doing inner joins with all child tables before returning the all records of that parent table?

Linq Query - How To Select Inner Query Into List

Oct 17, 2010

I am writing a linq query to select a blogpost,

The blogpost i am testing got 3 tags attached to it. The table structure is:

(table)BlogPost -> (table)BlogPostTags <- (table)Tags

So the BlogPostTags table only contains 2 fields, BlogPostID and TagID.

When i run the query above i get 3 results back. Same blogpost 3 times but with 1 tag in each. It should return 1 post with 3 tags. The problem lies in the Tags query above.

ADO.NET :: LINQ Entity Framework Query - Construct "nested" Query?

Jan 22, 2011

I have a web app for our golf club. When I compute handicap index for each golfer, I have to select the most recent scores and then a subset of those scores depending on how many rounds of golf the golfer has played. All the scores are entered into a single SQL Express table called "Rounds". Verbally, this is what I'm trying to do:

1) select the twenty most recent golf scores (sort on date descending, "take(20)") [if less than 20 records, then select all available];

2) for this set of records, select the 10 lowest scores (or smaller number if golfer has less than 20 rounds);

3) compute the average round differential for the subset of records, etc. to calculate handicap index (this step is working ok...)

My current VB code has this LINQ query (which is flawed -- it selects the lowest handicap differential scores of ALL records for the filtered user):

[Code]....

How do I modify this query to accomplish items 1) & 2) above? It seems this should be simple, but my experience with queries is still limited.

ADO.NET :: Linq Search On Integer And Name?

Mar 18, 2011

I have a query which need to search on account table where search criteria looks at either partial name(string column) or partial accountid (integer column).

Linq doesn't allow tostring on integer column to find partial search. The example would be search account number which begins with 124. There might be account numbers like: 1247, 1249 etc which need to be returned. On the name side, searching for string that begins with joh would return john, johk, johp etc.

FYI: The query should return Account table records not annonymous types.

Architecture :: MVC Linq To Sql Repository And Search

Apr 15, 2010

I need some guidance for an application I am working on. I have searched the web and the forum and found parts that answer my questions but I want to do this correctly. My solution uses LINQ to SQL to model the db and I have a repository that is querying my db everytime a controller needs to get some data for the view. I am initially anticipating a maximum of only about a few hundreds hits per day (if that). The website is a directory, with listings and requires a search functionality.

1. What options should I consider to avoid having my repository query the db everytime

2. The site contains a 'search' option, how can I implement this against my repository?

I guess I'm really looking for someone to point me in the right direction. So far I've looked at 'caching' the LINQ to SQL model and Lucene.NET but both seem overkill or am I missing the point?
