Two DropDowns where the second one is depended on the selection in the first DropDown. You have Cars, planes, etc. inm the first DropDown and Toyota, Chrysler, etc in the second (depending on the value in the first DD.I have som Lin syntax. The file is situated in the App_Code folder and NOT as code behind. [Code]....

I would like to know how i can make populate my second Dropdown list with results. At this point it's just putting in the complete ProductSubCategory.

ADO.NET :: EF4 / Linq Eager Loading With Include Fails To Populate All Results?

Aug 25, 2010

I'm trying out EF4 as part of a .Net 4.0 WCF service. The aim of the service is to return document data as an array of entity objects to any of our ASP.Net apps. The apps are still in .Net 2.0. Due to the nature of the solution I've disabled LazyLoading at context level. I started with this:

[Code]....

Everything works ok, I receive the correct number of populated objects. However when I add an Include into my query to allow us to pickup fields from a related table that has a defined navigation only the first record is returned fully populated to a calling application:

[Code]....

The array is the correct size but all elements after the first are blank, default placeholders. Its like using the Include has reverted to LazyLoading and I can't seem to kick it into line.

Templates - Populate List Items In Dropdown List From Placeholder?

Feb 24, 2010

I'm designing my own custom control that contains a .NET dropdownlist. What I'm wondering is if it is possible to populate my dropdownlist with listitems placed in a placeholder? For example:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlFilter" runat="server" >
<asp:PlaceHolder ID="ListItemPlaceholder" runat="server"/>
</asp:DropDownList>

This doesn't work because the DropDownList control only allows ListItems as child controls. But, I want to do something similar to this so when the user includes my control on a page, they can do something like this:

<mytag:MyControl Mode="DropDown" runat="server">
<ListItemTemplate>
<asp:ListItem Text="C" Value="c"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text="E" Value="e"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text="B" Value="b"></asp:ListItem>
</ListItemTemplate>
</myTag:MyControl>

I know I can do this by dynamically adding the ListItems in the page code behind, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Architecture :: Code In Object Oriented Pattern?

Oct 4, 2010

I am creating an authentication service. This service has one of the methods to validate username and password and return a status based on it.

The validation method has bunch of things to check before it can say user is valid. This method has a pseudo code similar to this:

If UserName and Password is correct

If User Account is Locked (due to invalid attempts)

{[code]....

As you can see there are lots of if else statements that I am writing. It looks more like a procedural programming rather than object oriented.How can I fit such kind of code in object oriented pattern?

C# - Object Oriented N-tier Design Abstracting Too Much?

Jun 8, 2010

I'm building my first enterprise grade solution (at least I'm attempting to make it enterprise grade).I'm trying to follow best practice design patterns but am starting to worry that I might be going too far with abstraction.

I'm trying to build my asp.net webforms (in C#) app as an n-tier application.I've created a Data Access Layer using an XSD strongly-typed dataset that interfaces with a SQL server backend.I access the DAL through some Business Layer Objects that I've created on a 1:1 basis to the datatables in the dataset(eg, a UsersBLL class for the Users datatable in the dataset).I'm doing checks inside the BLL to make sure that data passed to DAL is following the business rules of the application.That's all well and good.Where I'm getting stuck though is the point at which I connect the BLL to the presentation layer.For example, my UsersBLL class deals mostly with whole datatables,as it's interfacing with the DAL.Should I now create a separate "User" (Singular) class that maps out the properties of a single user,rather than multiple users?This way I don't have to do any searching through datatables in the presentation layer,as I could use the properties created in the User class.Or would it be better to somehow try to handle this inside the UsersBLL?

below is the code from the UsersBLL:

using System;
using System.Data;
using PedChallenge.DAL.PedDataSetTableAdapters;

[code]...

Forms Data Controls :: Populate Dropdown List With Special Character

Nov 1, 2010

Using a gridView to read some data from a SQL database. The user can select a record in the gridview. On the SelectedIndexChanged property I populate this to a couple of text boxes & drop down list; txtCountry,ddlProvince,ddlCity.

I have special characters in France ( accent marks) and when I populate it to the drop down list it fails giving out the error message "SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items".

Example of items that I try to populate are as follows. ( separated by commas) ÃŽLE-DE-FRANCE , PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D'AZUR , RHÔNE-ALPES, DRÔME,ISÈRE ........ When I looked in the drop down lists for Province and Cities I see those Provinces there in the item list. When I debug line by line the word ÃŽLE-DE-FRANCE comes out like ÎLE-DE-FRANCE which is not there in the drop down list. Got to know the ÃŽ is typed by pressing down ALT+206 and lloks like this is what is coming in at the start of the string above.

Security :: Multiple Role Membership / How To Populate A Dropdown List With Users

Oct 13, 2010

I need to populate a dropdown list with users who match certain role criteria. For example, if I have the following roles: Manager, Employee, Supervisor I would like to populate the list with only the Manager and Employee roles. Some individuals have multiple roles and they should be excluded if they also have the Supervisor role as illustrated below:

Name: A , Role(s): Manager, Employee, Supervisor

Name: B, Role(s): Employee

Name: C, Role(s): Manager, Employee

The final list should only contain names B & C.

I can use Roles.GetUsersInRole("Employee") but I am not sure if this is efficient or not.
