ADO.NET :: Save Data Into Objects Based On The Input?

Nov 17, 2010

I have to save data into different C# objects based on the input.

Based on the value of "productChoice" my program should save data to the corresponding class.

For example :if productChoice = "auto" then the data shoud be set to AutoDataprefill object.

if productChoice = "vehicle" then the data shoud be set to VehicleMileage object.

My order class :
public class Order
{
public Products products {get;set;}
} [code]...

Here is my code to create an instance of "order" and save data to corresponding objects:

CLUEAuto.Personal.BusinessEntities.Order nwOrder = new CLUEAuto.Personal.BusinessEntities.Order
{
products = new CLUEAuto.Personal.BusinessEntities.Products
{
products = new CLUEAuto.Personal.BusinessEntities.productChoiceType [code]..

Web Forms :: Display Input Controls To Save Data?

Nov 26, 2010

I am creating web page with similar functionality as the discussion section under each article in codeproject. For example when a person wrote a comment about an article, it creates a hyper link. This can be clicked by another person to add his/her own comment and so on. The problem is that clicking on the hyperlink opens another page, with input controls such as a text box for subject, a text box for content and several check boxes for different options, where once could enter a reply. I would like these controls be part of a webcontrol or a form and open within the page of the article itself and when the save button clicked, it posts the values to be saved, and the controls disappear.

WCF / ASMX :: Webservice Custom Objects As Input Parameters?

Nov 9, 2010

I have a fundamental question to ask about web services. I'm currently writing a service that has custom classes (lots of them). Let's say a car is one example. For some reason I was thinking that the service should expose these objects. However once I created a site to consume the service, it looks as though the classes are not meant to be exposed. It looks like the best practice is to take in a string which may be xml or not and convert that string into the object in the service code.(especially for error handling or input validation)

For example, if I had the web method:

[WebMethod]
public car getCar(int carId)
{
//code here to return car object
}

This will take a car ID and return a car object. It also shows all the elements in the SOAP request and response objects (as well as the WSDL) which can be to external developers. However, when trying to consume the service from a website (or reference it in my code), I then need access to the Car class (which implies i need to expose it through the services as well?).

ADO.NET :: CTP5 How To Save Related New Objects That Comes From Differents DBContext

Mar 3, 2011

I'm working on a MVC3 application and I created my POCO classes from my database with the DbContext Code Generator. All goes fine until I got stuck in this situation. Note that I use the repository pattern and I use for every entity a dedicated repository that every get a new instance of the DbContext.

Now, I'm in this situation:

object A has a relation one-to-many with B (A can have one or many B)
object B has a relation many-to-one with C (C can have one or many B)
object B has a relation many-to-one with D (D can have one or many B)

I should add a new object B, consider that object C and D are yet existing, so I must only do the relation and the object A can be created or updated. In the specific consider that A is customer and B is subscriptions (C and D are virtual objects properties
in the B).Now If I try to save I got duplicates in C and D tables, while the management of the object seems to work.

Here's the code: [Code]....

And here the add and the save method of the customer repository: [Code]....

Should I check for every relation and modify the state of the entry to Unchanged or something like that ?

Dynamic Data Be Made To Work With Custom Business Objects Rather Than Data Objects?

Feb 24, 2010

I'm working on a project in which we have a database, data layer (entity framework), business layer and web/UI layer.I want to use ASP.NET Dynamic Data for the web layer, but don't want it to access the data layer or database, as I want it to be purely running off business logic, and not directly accessing the data.However, it appears that Dynamic Data only allows Linq-to-SQL or entity framework data sources to be used.Has anyone used it with business-layer objects instead?

Forms Data Controls :: Binding A Repeater To A List Of Objects That Have Child Objects?

Nov 17, 2010

have some Objects, lets say Employee and Role defined as below and I have defined relationships in my database that gives me a list of objects say employees and thanks to my framework each employee object also has a Role object linked via the RoleIDID, UserName, Password, Email, RoleIDRoleID, RoleNameSo in code I can do something like this

Employee emp = dataService_GetEmployeeByID(1);
string RoleName = emp.Role.RoleName;

Now here is my problemI can bind any object in a repeater and it works fine for the first level in my relationship

For instance <%# Eval("UserName") %>

But I need to be able to show the details for my child objects as well (Role) so something like this (which does not work)

<%# Eval("Role.RoleName") %>

Forms Data Controls :: GridView,calculate Value Based On Other Columns& Save To Datasource?

Nov 8, 2010

I had just started with Visual Studio 2008 + VB.net. I've now designed my tables, and basic gridview functions properly.Now I'm faced with the problem of having to calculate a value based on 2 - 3 columns/data in the gridview, display the result in an existing column in the same gridview, and saving the calculated value in the datasource.I had initially created the "Total" column as a textbox displaying a manually calculated amount that is saved in the datasource. Now, I want to change the field to auto-calculate based on 2 other columns.

C# - Sort A Gridview Of Linq Objects Based On A Derived Field?

Feb 16, 2010

I have written a page which uses Linq to query the database and bind the resulting IQueryable to a datagrid. I have a partial class which contains extra properties which derive their values based on other values brought in from the database.

Sorting works fine on fields that are actually in the database but not for the derived fields. When I attempt to sort on such a field I get an error saying "The member 'Trip.Difference' has no supported translation to SQL. how to allow sorting on these derived fields?

C# - Match SQL Columns Based On User Input?

Jan 24, 2011

What i am trying to achieve is that there are 7 columns in my db table. one is primary key and rest 6 are integer columns. Now my application will allow user to input 6 values. I want to compare 6 values entered by user to those 6 integer columns and if in any row 3 or more columns match user's input Primary key of that table is returned..

I have tried using queries, cursor, nested loops and i am still unable to achieve my results..

DB Table Structure.. I am inputting 2,3,7,11,45,65. Number of returned rows should be 5. eg..

UID A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6

C# - Adding Rows To A Table Based On User Input?

Jan 19, 2010

I have a TextBox entry field where the user will enter a integer value. And then there is a "Create" button, which when clicked upon must generate a Table with 2 columns :

"Name" and "Email" being the column headers.

I want each row to have a textbox in each of these columns.

All of this has to happen after the button is clicked. I have discovered that if you dynamically add a control in ASP.NET(I am using C#) then the controls are lost during postback. And I don't know how to prevent that from happening.

Can somebody give me some ideas regarding how to go about adding rows dynamically to a table (I tried using the asp.net Server side table control but ran into the "lost-during-postback" problem - can I try with something else like a gridview ? but afaik a GV will not work without data bound to it )

Point to note is that my table has textboxes for user entry and it is not for showing data ..rather it is for accepting data from the user which will be later used to persist details to the database.

The problem comes in how to generate the extra input forms based on what the user chooses. I have been going over my ASP.Net 4 book but it really does not cover this.

DataSource Controls :: Search Various Database Columns Based On User's Input?

Nov 18, 2010

I have five textboxes(tb1, tb2, ... tb5) on the page, each textbox represent a column in the database table.

I need to search the database table based on the text in the textboxes. User can either enter text in all five textboxes or none.

What's the best way to do a search?

I am thinking for one textbox(tb1), depends on if tb1.text is empty or not, I need to do 2 searches

[Code]....

for two textboxes(tb1 & tb2), depends on if tb1.text and/or tb2.text are empty or not, there are 4 combinations, so I need to do 4 searches

[Code]....

for three textboxes, there are 8 combinations,

Does that mean for five textboxes, I need to do 2 to the power of 5, 32 combinations, 32 if statements?
