C# - How To Avoid "The ObjectContext Instance Has Been Disposed " Error

Mar 30, 2011

I have a doubt concerning the Entity Framework in .NET.

I have a simple ASP .NET web page that has to insert some data in SQL Server with this function:

[code]....

The good news is that the code that Insert function encapsulates I can move it to the place which is called. So my question is: What if there is a place in which I would be forced to call the function? How then I could avoid the error. Passing the parameter as reference (I tried and did not work).

Is It Acceptable To Cache An Instance Of The Database Connection On Application Start

Jan 5, 2010

Is it acceptable to cache an instance of the database connection on application start?

Looking at the MSDN documentation on thread safety, I quote:

Any public static [...] members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe.

Given that, is it acceptable/safe for code such as this example below:

SQL Server :: Connection To Sql Server / Error "A Network-related Or Instance-specific Error Occurred While Establishing A Connection To SQL Server

Nov 23, 2010

I just installed sql server 2008 R2 on my computer. I am trying to connect to sql server throught my C# code and everytime I run the C# program,

I get this error "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) "

The connection string that I used in my web.config file is

[Code]....

I am not sure what am I doing wrong, but I followed this article below step by step and still I am getting the same error

http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2009/05/21/sql-server-fix-error-provider-named-pipes-provider-error-40-could-not-open-a-connection-to-sql-server-microsoft-sql-server-error/

My instance name is MSSQLSERVER and the server that I am using is on my local machine and it has my computer name in it.

C# - Error / "A Network-related Or Instance-specific Error Occurred While Establishing A Connection To SQL Server

Sep 8, 2010

I am trying to create a simple login page in ASP.NET C# but am getting some error.

I googled about the error, and tried all the solutions but to no avail.What am I doing wrong? The error is:

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"

I think it's something to do with my connection string which is as follows:

<add name="cn"
connectionString="server=HCL;DataBase=GS;Integrated Security=True" />

"HCL" is another machine connected to my PC through the LAN and this database, "GS", resides on it. Is the problem with the value I am giving in "Server" attribute of the above code? If not what else may I be doing wrong?

SQL Server :: Receiving An Error - A Network-related Or Instance-specific Error Occurred While Establishing A Connection To SQL Server

Sep 23, 2010

I've created a small website with a simple sqlite database using vwd 2010 .net 4. In dev and test envionments everything works fine, however when i promote to my hosting provider i receive the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.

(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:

<add
name="ApplicationServices"
connectionString="data [code].....

For info the environments are set up as follows:

- Dev environment is vwd express 2010 with sqlite mdf attached

- Test environment is windows 7 server, iis 7 with appdomain identity set to network service

It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

The following message may diagnose the problem: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. May 21, 2010

I am using Asp.Net MVC 2.0 for creating a user and assigning properties to the user at the same time. I am using my Windows account to access database on my local computer. I am using pre-installed MVC code o create a user with unique user name and password. User is created OK. Then I want to add profile properties like First and Last name at the same time.

I am creatingProfileBase object:

ProfileBase profileBase = ProfileBase.Create(profileInformation.UserName);

where profileInformation is a RegisterModel and has user info.

When I am trying to:

profileBase.SetPropertyValue(.....);

I am getting the following error # 2147467259 A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"}

Why is my connection string works fine the first time and not working now? And how to configure connection to use TCP-IP?

I have SQL Server Browser running ander Local account and openned port in my Firewall.

Databases :: MySQL Connection No Longer Works After Publishing Project

Jan 21, 2011

To start, I am a new web developer. I have been writing C# for about a year, but just recently learning web development. I wrote an application that connects to a MySql database and when I run it on my localhost it wokrs great! I created a ubuntu server on amazon ec2 and it is hosting my MySql server. It is up and running just fine. I created a windows 2008 server instance on amazon ec2 to host my asp.net project. I published my project to my windows server and I went to my public IP address and my site was there! it was so easy...

However, when I went to login, I recieved this error: Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, Version=6.3.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I made sure the correct connector was installed on ym server. I have the most recent mysql connector installed. I do not know how the publish actually works. I saw some forum posts that said maybe I was missing DLLs from my bin directory but I cannot even find my bin directory for my project on the server. I also saw some posts about changing the web config file, but that was gibberish to me at this level.

HttpRuntime.Cache Getting Flushed When Saving WebConfigurationManager - Is This A Bug

Oct 19, 2010

I've been experimenting with caching objects with HttpRuntime.Cache and I was generally under the impression that if I "added" something to the cache like this:

HttpRuntime.Cache.Insert("Test", "This is a test!", null,
Cache.NoAbsoluteExpiration, Cache.NoSlidingExpiration,
CacheItemPriority.NotRemovable, new CacheItemRemovedCallback(FileChanged));

that the "NotRemovable" and "NoExpiration" flags would keep the object in-memory for the duration of the application. But was finding that at the end of certain page requests, the HttpRuntime.Cache would be completely empty!

Tracing thru and setting a breakpoint inside my Callback "FileChanged" I could see that indeed something was "removing" my object (and every other object in the cache), but I couldn't figure out why. So eventually, I started disabling other things that I thought might affect this subsystem.

Eventually, I commented out the line:

WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~").Save;

I had been mostly retrieving data from "web.config" in the AppSettings region, but occasionally writing back to AppSettings and saving the changes using the above command. I knew from reading that the "web.config" is cached, but saving my changes back to it shouldn't flush all of HttpRuntime.Cache, right?

EDIT:

I've made this super reproducible if wants to try this on their own machine. (I'm running VS2008 Pro w/ MVC2 targeting .NET 3.5) Just start up a new MVC2 project and paste the following into the HomeController over whatever is already there:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.Mvc;
using System.Web.Configuration;
using System.Configuration;........

Start-up the app in debug mode. Click on the "About" link. This loads a string into the Cache. Click on the "Home" link. String is pulled from the Cache and stuck in ViewMessage dictionary. Some key/value pair is written to web.config and saved. String from cache should appear on the Home page. Click on the "Home" link again. String should be pulled from the cache, but it's not. Stop program. Comment out the 3 lines that start with "Config". Restart the program. Try steps 1 thru 4 again. Notice how the HttpRuntime.Cache has not been emptied.

WCF / ASMX :: Way To Cache A Web Service Connection?

Oct 27, 2010

I have a web service that calls another web service (not my design).The wrapper web service is our code the underlying web service is 3rd party.The issue is that when one of our apps calls the web service wrapper.. it opens a new connection to the underlying web service and that login time is around 10seconds! (3rd party issue)... the calls after the login are fast in testing.SO we are trying to have ONE login for all the calls to the underlying services. However our wrapper service is called one by one..I was thinking if there was a way to store the underlying web service connection in a cache (netbean?) I could reuse it for all web service connections to the 3rd party...

VS 2010 N-tier Approach - Saving SQL Connection

Sep 29, 2010

What is the most correct way to save your connection string when using the n-tier approach ? Right now I have two windows app and one web app using my DLL library, what I'm currently doing is to create a static
method inside my dal "GLOBALDAL"
inside I'm making this check:

Code:
if (System.Web.HttpContext.Current != null) ...
if httpContext.Current is null
That's mean that one of my windows applications doing the request, if so I get the CN from a file otherwise it's mean its the website knocking on my door so I get the CN from:
Code: System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Application["ConnectionString"]
I am thinking of changing it all and just set properly in my DA layer that expose the CN as a string. But I fear of security issues. So what is the correct way?
