C# - The ObjectContext Instance Has Been Disposed And Can No Longer Be Used For Operations That Require A Connection?
Mar 19, 2011I have this view:
@model MatchGaming.Models.ProfileQuery
@{
ViewBag.Title = "Index";
[code]...
I have this view:
@model MatchGaming.Models.ProfileQuery
@{
ViewBag.Title = "Index";
[code]...
i want to save a IQueryable in cache like this:
[Code]....
However when i try to retreive it and use it i get this error: The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection.
I have a doubt concerning the Entity Framework in .NET.
I have a simple ASP .NET web page that has to insert some data in SQL Server with this function:
[code]....
The good news is that the code that Insert function encapsulates I can move it to the place which is called. So my question is: What if there is a place in which I would be forced to call the function? How then I could avoid the error. Passing the parameter as reference (I tried and did not work).
I have VS 2010 professional. I am trying to open "ASP.Net Configuration" through Project -> ASP.Net Configuration.
It pops up the Notification about the ASP.Net Development Server localhost but doesn't open ASP.Net Configuration in the default browser.I clicked on the Root Url (by double clicking on the 'development server' at the right bottom from Notification Manager).
It throws following error
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Clicking on "How do i use this tool".It opened page with error.

To start, I am a new web developer. I have been writing C# for about a year, but just recently learning web development. I wrote an application that connects to a MySql database and when I run it on my localhost it wokrs great! I created a ubuntu server on amazon ec2 and it is hosting my MySql server. It is up and running just fine. I created a windows 2008 server instance on amazon ec2 to host my asp.net project. I published my project to my windows server and I went to my public IP address and my site was there! it was so easy...
However, when I went to login, I recieved this error: Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, Version=6.3.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I made sure the correct connector was installed on ym server. I have the most recent mysql connector installed. I do not know how the publish actually works. I saw some forum posts that said maybe I was missing DLLs from my bin directory but I cannot even find my bin directory for my project on the server. I also saw some posts about changing the web config file, but that was gibberish to me at this level.
I just installed sql server 2008 R2 on my computer. I am trying to connect to sql server throught my C# code and everytime I run the C# program,
I get this error "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) "
The connection string that I used in my web.config file is
[Code]....
I am not sure what am I doing wrong, but I followed this article below step by step and still I am getting the same error
http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2009/05/21/sql-server-fix-error-provider-named-pipes-provider-error-40-could-not-open-a-connection-to-sql-server-microsoft-sql-server-error/
My instance name is MSSQLSERVER and the server that I am using is on my local machine and it has my computer name in it.
I have 3 Databases that I am pulling data from for my web site. 2 of the databases are in the same SQL instance, however the 3rd one is in a different SQL instance. Both of the SQL instances are installed on the same server, one of them is a Named instance and the other is installed under the default instance. So my connection strings look something like this:
<add name="ABCConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=BobDataDB;Initial Catalog=Bob;User ID=*******;Password=*********;" ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
<add name="BCDConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=BobDataDB;Initial Catalog=Sue;User ID=*******;Password=*********;" ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
<add name="EFGConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=Bob;Initial Catalog=Sue;User ID=*******;Password=*********;" ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
I'm in the process of moving this application from the Development Server to the Production Server when I noticed this issue. Previously the ABC and BCD connectionStrings where pointing to a different server and instance. So my question is how do I get this wo work with the server names being the same but the instances being different?
i m running asp.net example code in my vs 2005. I am using following datasource. I have no sql express edition, but i have developer edition of sql server 2005.
[code]...
i have .mdf file and i got following error message.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Is it acceptable to cache an instance of the database connection on application start?
Looking at the MSDN documentation on thread safety, I quote:
Any public static [...] members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe.
Given that, is it acceptable/safe for code such as this example below:
[code]...
I have an appliaction that works fine and connect to the database.but when view the event log I can see that every minute I get this:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
On web.config yo can find:
[Code]....
I am using sql server fulll edition.any idea how should I solve this issue, I search on net but not found any helpful answer.
View 4 RepliesWhen I load the asp.net config tool in vs2010 it loads the page up fine but as soon as I click on security I get the following error:-
Code:
There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may diagnose the problem: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I have tried a blank project with a login control on but get the same.
I am using Asp.Net MVC 2.0 for creating a user and assigning properties to the user at the same time. I am using my Windows account to access database on my local computer. I am using pre-installed MVC code o create a user with unique user name and password. User is created OK. Then I want to add profile properties like First and Last name at the same time.
I am creatingProfileBase object:
ProfileBase profileBase = ProfileBase.Create(profileInformation.UserName);
where profileInformation is a RegisterModel and has user info.
When I am trying to:
profileBase.SetPropertyValue(.....);
I am getting the following error # 2147467259 A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"}
Why is my connection string works fine the first time and not working now? And how to configure connection to use TCP-IP?
I have SQL Server Browser running ander Local account and openned port in my Firewall.
Could someone explain what happens to the Repositories that are created when they are no longer needed? Are they automatically disposed of, or should we dispose of them manually?
Using EF4 as the DAL, to keep the program efficient I have been building repositories for the Model that abstract the data needed for specific views or actions. I have also used the Iinterface for the methods and call them in the Controller to pass them to the View. At some point the program needs to pass a behavior or request that requires the creation of a new repository and the process may repeat itself over and over again. What happens to the repositories that created for previous views, but are no longer needed? Should the dispose be written into each repository, or does garbage collection take care of this? How should this handled?
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Visual Studio 2008 Team System Using C# SQL Server 2005 Express Management Studio (Service Pack 3) By using Visual Studio 2008,I opened Server Explorer and tried to modify Database connection,i wanted to use SQL Authentication,I entered User name and Passwored after pressing OK button,i got the following... Error message Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server.Only an integerated connection can generate a user instance.The connection will be closed.
View 4 RepliesI published my web.The problem is that the path to the DataBase is not good and i dont know how to change it.heare is the error:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
View 4 RepliesI am trying to create a simple login page in ASP.NET C# but am getting some error.
I googled about the error, and tried all the solutions but to no avail.What am I doing wrong? The error is:
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
I think it's something to do with my connection string which is as follows:
<add name="cn"
connectionString="server=HCL;DataBase=GS;Integrated Security=True" />
"HCL" is another machine connected to my PC through the LAN and this database, "GS", resides on it. Is the problem with the value I am giving in "Server" attribute of the above code? If not what else may I be doing wrong?
Following is the error I am getting while accessing some of the pages on my website.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
It is trowing an exception and giving the about mentioned error.
i get error A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)
View 4 RepliesI am confused about the constructor of ObjectContext
// Summary:
// Initializes a new instance of the System.Data.Objects.ObjectContext class
// with a given connection string and entity container name.
//
// Parameters:
// connectionString:
// The connection string, which also provides access to the metadata information.
//
// defaultContainerName:
// The name of the default entity container. When the defaultContainerName is
// set through this method, the property becomes read-only.
protected ObjectContext(string connectionString, string defaultContainerName);
I am not understanding the parameters clearly.
I don't know if it's IIS, ASP.NET or IIS7 related. I take a chance here, if you think I'm in the wrong forum, just tell me which one I should post to.
I have made the smallest demo project to illustrate my problem. You can download the sources
Here
Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5, IIS7, Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits. The IIS Website is configured
ONLY for Windows Authentication in an Integreated pipeline app pool (DefaultAppPool).
Here's the problem. I have an Asp.NET MVC 2 application. In an action, I start a thread. The View returns.
The thread is doing it's job... but it needs to access Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name
BANG
The worker process of IIS7 stops. I have a window that says: "Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger An unhandled exception ('System.Object.DisposedException') occured in w3wp.exe [5524]"
I checked with the debugger and the Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is valid, but the Name property is disposed.
If I put a long wait in the action before it returns the view, then the Thread can do it's job and the Identity.Name is not disposed. So I think the Name gets disposed when the view is returned.
For the sake of the discussion, here's the code that the thread runs (but you can also download the demo project. The link is on top of this post):
[Code]....
Here's the code that starts the thread

im working with a proyect made in ASP.Net using Webforms. Im using Entity Framework to save data on Microsoft SQL.
My question is:
Is posible to use a Static class to keep the ObjectContext of EF live and put/get entities NOT saved inside the ObjectContext??
I wan to create an Object, then added with AddObject on the ObjectContext, But NOT to do the Savechanges. All this in one webform An then, in other webform, access to the ObjectContext and Get the Object added
I have a page like Order - Order lines. Order represents by some textboxes and ddls, Order lines represents by GridView.
I want to let users add order lines without save changes to database. For example: he adds 4 order lines, fill order info and then hits Save button. Only an that moment all information should be saved to DB.
When I use code like
using (Entities ctx = new Entities())
{
//create new OrderLine
OrderLine ol = OrderLine.CreateOrderLine(1, 1, "", 1);
//add OrderLine to OrderLines collection
ctx.CreateOrderLines.AddObject(ol);
}
newly created OrderLine does not appears in my object context, so I can't access it and bind GridView to new OrderList collection.
How can I solve this problem? Or maybe there are another ways to perform this task?
I have a bunch of methods like so in my DAL in VS 2010. When I run the "new" Code Analysis option i get the message - Warning CA2000 object 'comm' is not disposed along all exception paths. Call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object 'comm' before all references to it are out of scope.
I understand I could use another using statement for the SQLCommand however if prefer to do it like I have with the Try/Finally block. My understanding is the Finally block executes last and does the cleanup.

I'm building an application using MVC 3 and Entity Framework 4. I've created my Entity Data Model and generated a database from it. Now I know the validation attributes such as [Required] or [StringLength(5)] can be used on the model properties to provide validation both clientside and serverside.
I would like to know if these attributes can also be generated dynamically instead of having to add them to the model explicitly? I saw that in EF 4.1 RC you can make use of the Fluent API to further configure your model in the OnModelCreating method by using the DbModelBuilder class. As shown here I'm working with a framework however that still uses ObjectContext instead of DbContext so I would like to know if the above solution can be used in combination with ObjectContext?
As a final note, since I've been trying to figure out how to generate and use data annotations it seems using view models would increase the complexity of validation. From what I read here it seems that just passing the models directly to the view would remove the need to add annotations to the models as well as the view models. However that means that you can no longer use strongly typed views when you do joins on the models and pass those to the view directly?
