ADO.NET :: Error - The Timeout Period Elapsed Prior To Completion
Aug 30, 2010
I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 (c#) with SQL Server 2008 server. Recently, I started getting error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.".
After looking at forums for solutions, I added the below common code to my application.
[Code]....
However, intermittently, I'm still getting the timeout error. I added the logging to see where error is occuring. And found that before executing one of the query, it is giving this error. Now, my assumption is that I should have received this error after runnign query for 600 seconds (10 minutes) since I set it in the above function. But the timeout error is occuring instantaneously within 1 second itself. In the log, I printed one line above & after the query to identify how much time it would take. Surprisingly, the log says that 9:00 AM "Before query execution" & at 9:01 AM "timeout expired...."
Error occured: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
I have the problem of Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.
am getting "Time Out Expired,The Timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connecttion from pool".Please suggest suddenly i am getting this error in 10% of the pages.
I have stored procedure, execution time is just 1 sec, returns 20 rows.I droped it on my LINQ2SQL diagram (.dbml).But when calling it from LINQ2SQL it hangs and after some time throws an exception: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
VWD 2008 Express. IIS 6.0. Forms Authentication.My web site uses forms authentication (in case that makes a difference). Folks who are using the site indicate that it is timing out on them (logging them out) before they can finish some entries. How can I increase the timeout period? The following is my web.config file in my root directory:
[Code]....
Here is the web.config in the subdirectory to which all users are directed at login:
If I have not activity in browser for about 10 mins, shouldn't the Session object be removed. But after 10 mins I can still access the Session variable. Am I missing something here?
EDIT:
If I access a session variable after 10 mins as shown below shouldn't I get NULL
var myObj = Session["MyKey"] as MyClass; mObj is not NULL after 10 mins.
I have creetaed OSDesign using VS 2005.Later,I have created device application and I am using emulator created from OSDesign as device for connection.When I debug it gives error as, This operation returned because the timeout period expired
I'm getting the following error after uploading my site on live server:Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.i'm using the following code:
public static IQueryable<Property> Properties(string name, string city, string state, int pageIndex, int pageSize, ref int total) { ServerDataContext server = new ServerDataContext(); total = server.Properties.Count(x => x.Name.StartsWith(name) && x.City.StartsWith(city) && x.State.Contains(state)); return server.Properties.Where(x => x.Name.StartsWith(name) && x.City.StartsWith(city) && x.State.Contains(state)).Skip(pageIndex * pageSize - pageSize).Take(pageSize); }
What I'm trying to do is fill in a questionnaire, and have the option to not complete it then it automatically saves, once clicked on "Save" button. However, what I want to search for is previously non-completed questionairres.
Would I have a "status" field in the questionairre table to trigger either "completed"/ "non-completed" when the "Save" button is clicked (in the event of non completed questionaires? How is this normally done?? Im sure there are a hundred and one different ways to do it!
I have a web service that was running on Server 2003, IIS6. The service required an SSL connection. The service expects 4 parameters; a User ID, Password, Record ID and the "type" of data requested (one of 5 options). The service validates the user then simply performs a select of the record ID from a table determined by the type specified. This service was up and running for a couple of years. I installed a couple of new servers a couple of months ago. The users that makes use of this service just tried it and couldn't get a response. I checked the server and I hadn't copied the service over. The service is located in a virtual directory under the primary web site.
For example, the site is: [URL] Service virtual directory is "GetITSData" The call to the service has been: [URL] param1, param2, param3, param4 and the service would return the appropriate data. I "assumed" that when I copied the actual contents of the directory over, that the service would then begin functioning again (since it was empty). All IIS snap-in manager items for the virtual directory match the previous settings on the old server (I still have that server available in my office). The main site requires SSL and uses forms authentication. When I create a dummy site in VS2008 and try to add a service reference, I get the following: There was an error downloading [URL]. The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: [URL]. The remote server returned an unexpected response: (405) Method Not Allowed. The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.
This control is used multiple times on one aspx page. The issue is that each time an instance of the control is validated due to a text change any prior error messages are cleared from the validation summary. I want the validation summary to maintain prior error messages during the postback.
We have the timeout value set to 120 in our <form> tag within the web.config. We do not have a session timeout set.. and we have various connection strings.
We are having a problem where a session variable will disappear (become NULL) .. but, the form evidently remains 'open'.. or no re-login is required..... so, my question(s):
1. what is the relationship between form timeout and session timeout
I have developed a website in asp.net 2.0 with backend MS SQL server 2005. After each 2-3 days when i try to login to my admin panel i get a /server application error "datatable must be set prior to using dataview ".When I made a research on this i found the error is in the caching part of the code where i am using a dataset to fill my dropdown lists. But I am using the same code everywhere and on other place i didn't get any error but on a specific page. i usually get error when i try to login to admin. After successful login i redirect the admin to a page adminBazaar.aspx. and the error is always thrown by dis page only.other pages with the same code are working fine and there are no issues.I am using SqlCachingDependency. but can't figure out how to solve the problem.Right now to solve this I have to go to the server stop the website,then stop the application pool and the restart both. We have created a separate application pool for the website.
I have a sql stored procedure that runs for about 3 minutes, I am looking to execute this stored procedure from asp.net, but I know that if I do, that asp.net will most likely time out.
I'm thinking of just creating a job within sql to have it execute that stored procedure, and have asp.net call a stored procedure to call that job. I have a table that is updated when the stored procedure starts, and when it ends.
My application will use this to determine when the script has finished, however, I wanted to know if there is another way to run the stored procedure and not have it wait for it to finish to push a response back.
I just want to know if there is a more efficient way to do this, or if I should just stick to creating jobs for scripts that take forever to run.
Using sql server 2005 and vb.net 2005.I'm creating a .net console application where I am doing a SqlBulkCopy from a non-sql server db to a sql server db table and on the call for the bulk insert:
[Code]....
I'm getting a time out error after around 1 minute, however I set BulkCopyTimeout (see above) to 100 minutes, the error:
<ERROR>
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
</ERROR>
Has anyone experienced this and how to fix this or how do I change the timeout so I dont get this error?
I have a Web app using Forms authentication. I Use Timeout in Web.Config to TimeOut from application that is working fine and I am Redirected to Login page with Message on page "The application timed out. Please ClockIn/Login." When I am Logging again I am Redirected to the same page with same error message and after that if I try Logging again second time I am able to Login.
Following is the code from different form which i am using.
Detecting Page load Completion? How could we do this using jscript or jquery, would it be possible? Kindly give your views and ideas. I have an asp.net web page, which is huge and takes time to load. If the user clicks on any buttons on the page, before the page completes it's load, we get error messages. Since some of the hidden field values in the page, have value=0 because the page did not complete it's load. I hope I was clear with my question. Meanwhile I need to work on improving my code to process quick. I do have an update panel, on my page.
I have written a code to download a file . I require that if the file is successfully downloaded on the clients then only certain code should be executed otherwise not.
I am using dynamic query to get data from database (SQL) Whenever the query execution time is more than 1 min, i get a Timeout expiry error in my web page.
On one of our applications we are getting a timeout error on an 'additional details' field in our database, the field type is nVarChar(MAX).
The error seems to be happening when a user enters more than 4000 characters into the additional details field. It is my understanding that this fieldtype can store up to 8gb of data and should be used in stead of the "Text" field type?
We have since limited the user from entering more than 4000 characters via the application, however the DB still contains legacy data - when the 'additional details' with more than 4000 characters is pulled out - "Timeout Error".
i have an aspx with the following code (i don't want to bother you with unecessary additional code but basically the page will contact a remote proxy server and try to authenticate some requests and then redirect back to another page based on the response status)
[Code]....
How can i display a loading gif image before completion of the code behind code.
ps: if you can post some real code examples, not just concepts and how to do... i've tried many things so far without success, including pre-loading images using javascript and MS AJAX toolkit stuff.
