WCF / ASMX :: There Is Already An Open DataReader Associated With This Command Needs To Be Closed

Nov 26, 2010

My scenario:I am using a web service which access the sql server database to provide an XML output. this part is working fine. I am using a SqlDataAdapter and DataTable with Fill method to get the data.

Problem:When more than one person access this web service at the same time i get the error message which is given in the subject line.

I understand the problem is because of the sql connection which is still open by the first user. If the first user completes his operation before the second users request then both the user receives the correct response.

My Solution:What i did was i initiated 10 connection strings and will check which connection string is closed and i have used this connection for the second persons request if they both access at the same time.

I have a website with several languages in a database. From the database I use ResXResourceWriter to create my .resx files. This is working really good but sometimes I get this exception:

Web Forms :: Linkbutton In Dynamically Loaded User Control Does Not Handle Command Event

Feb 27, 2011

I have a user control that is dynamically added to a placeholder control inside an update panel in my main page. The user control has a linkbutton where I try to handle its Command event. The first time the link button is clicked after the user control loads, the form posts back but the command event handler does not execute, although the user control is still on the screen. The second and subsequent times the link button is clicked it works perfectly. When the user control first loads and I mouse over the link button, the browser status bar says: javascript: __doPostBack('ctl08$lbTest',''). After the first click, when I mouseover the link button the browser status bar shows javascript:__doPostBack('ctl07$lbTest',''). Why the changed in id, I can't figure but it must be why it is not hitting the event handler the first time it's clicked. Here is the cs code that loads the user control:

DataReader Already Open Error When Trying To Run Two Queries

Nov 10, 2010

I have a couple of queries that I need to run one to a linked server and one not like this

Dim InvestorLookup As String = "DECLARE @investor varchar(10), @linkedserver varchar(25), @sql varchar(1000) "
InvestorLookup += "SELECT @investor = '" & investor & "', @linkedserver = '" & db & "', "
InvestorLookup += "@sql = 'SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(' +@linkedserver + ', ''SELECT * FROM db WHERE investor = ' + @investor + ' '')' EXEC(@sql)"
Dim queryInvestorLookup As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(InvestorLookup , conn)
Dim BondNoDR As SqlDataReader = queryInvestorLookup.ExecuteReader()
Dim PasswordCheck As String = "DECLARE @investor varchar(10), @password varchar(20), @linkedserver varchar(25), @sql varchar(1000) "
PasswordCheck += "SELECT @investor = '" + investor + "', @password = '" + password + "', @server = '" + db2 + "', "
PasswordCheck += "@sql = 'SELECT * FROM @server WHERE investor = @investor AND password = ' + @password + ' '' EXEC(@sql)"
Dim queryPasswordCheck As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(PasswordCheck, conn)
Dim PasswordDR As SqlDataReader = queryPasswordCheck.ExecuteReader()

As far as I can tell from debugging the queries both run as they should but I get the error There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first. Is it possible to run two queries in two different DataReaders. I need to later reference each DataReader and select values from each.

Datareader Vs Dataset - Get The Number Of Rows From The Datareader?

Nov 15, 2010

I'm having a method that exports content from the database to excel files. The method taks as paramaters a DataReader param and a int param - the number of rows. For the number of rows i'm using a dataset, wich i fill using the same query as for the datareader. So I'm executing it twice... Is there a way I can avoid that? get the number of rows from the datareader?

The Remote Host Closed The Connection. The Error Code Is 0x80070057?

Aug 19, 2010

I'm getting a lot of these error messages in my logs on one of my servers and intermittently on two others.Googling didn't reveal very much information, mostly related to file uploads or downloads being interrupted. My pages are basically just text files with "ok" in them that only have .aspx extension for future plans, there's no actual code powering the pages. Servers are all Windows Server 2008 RC2 x64 running IIS7 / ASP.NET 4.Statistically it's happening well under 1% of the time but because of the volume of traffic that still clutters my event log with 2 or 3 of these messages per minute.Edit:tracked down the problem, setting buffering to true stopped it occurring.

ADO.NET :: Linq2Sql Error: "Invalid Attempt To Call Read When Reader Is Closed"

Aug 24, 2010

I've read up on this error from other posts and on other sites, but haven't found a solid resolution to the issue yet. My setup is as follows:

I have a RepositoryBase class that fields certain db calls that all repositories need to perform. In one such call, "GetSecurityGroup", it works most of the time, but will seemingly at random throw an exception with the error "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." All other Repository classes inherit from this one, and they all use the same DataContext object, which I understand isn't thread safe. Since there could be multiple calls to the DataContext object on the same page, perhaps one is using the DataContext when the next tries to do so. I'm not sure. What can I do to ensure this doesn't happen?

The Underlying Connection Was Closed: The Connection Was Closed Unexpectedly?

Nov 19, 2010

I have my wcf service and it runs fine. Then from my asp.net application I am trying to connect to this service. Everything is ok, request from asp.net is received in service (as I can debug code) and then when it returns to client I have the following error:underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedlyMy contract on WCF service is as follows:

[OperationContract()]
WCFResponseGetAllProducts GetAllProducts(WCFRequestGetAllProducts request);

And WCFResponseGetAllProducts , WCFRequestGetAllProducts classes have [DataContract] attributes. Members of those classes have [DataMember] attribute. However when I added another method to my contract:

[OperationContract()]
int Test();

then I can execute it from asp.net mvc application without a problem.
PS. I host my wcf service in default web server in visual studio 2010 at the moment
