AJAX :: Autocomplete With Multiple Word Suggestions?

Aug 24, 2010

the process to get multiple word suggesions for a text box in asp.net using Ajax? Actually I got a solution for that, [URL] But it used Atlas. When I am running with this code in my application, it is conflicting with Script Manager that is already there in Masterpage. How can I overcome that problem. Is there any built-in solution in latest versions of Ajax?

AJAX :: Autocomplete Display Multiple Columns?

Aug 26, 2010

I have an autocomplete extender working great returning one column and I can also retrieve multiple columns just fine from my stored procedure, but here's what I really need to do:

1. Format the data in the autocomplete extender in the following format:

Location Number
Address
City, State, Zip

2. When the user makes a selection I want only the Location Number to populate the textbox.

I've looked quite a bit on this site and others on how to do #2 and I can't seem to find exactly how this should be done. Is there some javascript that needs to be involved in order accomplish this?

AJAX :: Autocomplete Extender And Updating Multiple Textboxes With C#?

Mar 27, 2010

I have a form containing fields for a user to enter an address. The town/city field in the form uses an autocomplete extender to return a list of suggested towns/citys which are taken from an sql query in my webservice. The table in the sql db that contains the addresses also has a column containing partial postcodes for those places.

What I would like to be able to do is have it so that when the user selects a town/city from the autocomplete list or types a town/city in the textbox, it triggers another query to get the postcode from the db and updates the postcode textbox without a full postback. Is there an easy way to achieve this? I know there's the OnTextChanged event for a textbox but this is server side isn't it so would only trigger on postback? Could you have two auto complete extenders and two webmethods where the value from method one updates textbox one and method two gets the value from method one and updates textbox two?

I'm creating just simple autocomplete sample.

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager2" runat="server">

</asp:ScriptManager>

JQuery UI Autocomplete For Multiple Key/value Selections In .NET?

Jul 27, 2010

How do I handle selection of multiple items with autocomplete? The objects I return from my JSON web service contain an ID and a Label - the ID is the ID of the entity in the database, and the Label is some text to display for the user.

At the moment, when I select an item in the autocomplete dropdown, the value of the item's ID is stored in a hidden field, and the label is displayed. When I remove the label, I clear the ID of the hidden field - this is done by adding an anchor element to the DOM that handles this.

Now, I want to have multiple selections. I want to be able to enter some text, get an autocomplete dropdown, select an item and some other options, then be able to click an 'Add New' button or the likes to be able to select another instance.

For example, I'd type in a person's name and get an autocomplete selection. I'd select a person, and then enter their age, and click 'Add'. The person's id, name, and age will be stored somewhere so that I can retrieve it on the server side when I post back.

I'm not quite sure how to do it? I'm thinking of a hidden field - I assume that many hidden fields of the same name/id turn up on the server side as an array, which I can then use. But I haven't tried this yet in ASP.NET.

JQuery AutoComplete Updating Multiple Fields.NET?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm trying to use the AutoComplete feature of JQuery to update multiple fields on an ASP.NET web page. The individual textbox is functioning perfectly, but I cannot figure out how to update multiple textboxes on the page once the user selects.

I've read many suggestions here that state I need to implement a result handler, but my intellisense is not showing that as an option, and IE I get a JS error saying that the object doesn't support this method.

I am linking to jquery-1.4.2.min.js and jquery-ui-1.8.5.custom.min.js .Here's my code:

Autocomplete: Display Data Different From What Is Filled And Filling In Multiple Fields?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm using asp.NET MVC, and am looking at the JQuery autocomplete plugin for what I want to do. I need some extra functionality that I don't think it provides.

I have a page with two text fields, First and Last name. Ideally, when someone begins typing into either, I would like autocomplete to display both the first and last name of all matches. If one of these matches were selected, I would like only the appropriate (first/last) name to go into the current field, while the other field is also filled in with the appropriate name.

So the problems here are that A) I would like the suggestion text to be different from the value that would be filled into the current field, and B) I would like to update multiple fields from a single autocomplete. Does this make sense? It seems to be difficult to find information on this situation on the net.

Suggestions Regarding The .NET Tool To Use For Project?

Feb 21, 2010

I need to develop a project that needs to have a Ticker and an AdRotator, apart from some button controls and a banner.I have two options - ASP.NET and Windows Forms. With Windows Forms, I've been able to develop the Ticker, but I don't know how to develop the AdRotator. With ASP.NET, I'll have to develop Ticker using AJAX, whereas the AdRotator is already present.

The software is to be used as a standalone. I'm thinking of using Windows Forms for the development so that the requirements for the end-user is only the .NET Framework and not ths IIS plus the deployment would be easier. What should I use for the development? If you suggest Windows Forms, please throw some light for the development of AdRotator.Note: I don't have any knowledge on AJAX and I don't have much time for the development. Is it possible to develop the Ticker using some other technology other than AJAX ?

MVC :: Return URL And Link Text Suggestions?

Mar 10, 2010

I got 3 "user role specific" Areas and 1 Public Area. Also, I have a "Shared" directory for controllers that's shared among the Areas.

On the Shared views, I have a "Return to [whereucomefrom]" link, that will depend on ..well, where you come from. If it was only the previous url I needed, I could just figure the referer and make that the url. But I also need the link text.

Say for instance "New Message" in Shared can be called from the "Customer" Area. If so, the return link would be "Return to my Orders", opposed to say "Return to Messages" for another area.So I want to pass on a return url and return url text from the link in an area view, so the shared view can display that link. I am not allowed to use Session and want to keep my URL's clean (sth like /Messages returnurl=customer/orders&linktext=Return to Orders" will not do).

I'm working on a URL Helper extension method as we speak, but I know in advance that is going to create an ugly url....

Suggestions/pointers For Post/Get To Page From A Desktop App?

May 26, 2010

I'm planning to have a desktop app interact with some .ASP or .ASPX pages on a server.

I've only done a little bit with .asp pages and I'm thinking I'd just Post or Get a URL with some variables:

I'm wondering if there is any better way to go about this?

Am I missing something? Is there perhaps a better way to go about this?

Architecture Suggestions / Recommendations For A Web Application With Sub Apps

Jan 17, 2011

I'm starting to plan an architecture for a big web application, and I wanted to get suggestions and/or recommendations on where to begin and which technologies and/or frameworks to use. The application will be an Intranet-based web site using Windows authentication, running on IIS and using SQL Server and ASP.NET. It'll need to be structured as a main/shell application with sub-applications that are "pluggable" based on some configuration settings.

The main or shell application is to provide the overall user interface structure - header/footer, dynamically built tabs for each available sub-app, and a content area in which the sub-application will be loaded when the user clicks on the sub-application's tab. So, on start-up of the main/shell application, configuration information will be queried from a database, and, based on the user and which of the sub-apps are available, the main or shell app would dynamically build tabs (or buttons or something) as a way to access each individual application. On start-up, the content area will be populated with the "home" sub-app. But, clicking on an sub-app tab will cause the content area to be populated with the sub-app corresponding to the tab.

For example, we're going to have a reports application, a display application, and probably a couple other distinct applications. On startup of the main/shell application, after determining who the user is, the main app will query the database to determine which sub-apps the user can use and build out the UI. Then the user can navigate between available sub-apps and do their work in each. Finally, the entire app and all sub-apps need to be a layered design with presentation, service, business, and data access layers, as well as cross-cutting objects for things such as logging, exception handling, etc.

Anyway, my questions revolve around where to begin to plan something like this application. What technologies/frameworks would work best in developing a solution for this application? MVC? MVP? WCSF? EF? NHibernate? Enterprise Library? Repository Pattern? Others? I know all these technologies/frameworks are not used for the same purpose, but knowing which ones to focus on is a little overwhelming.
Which ones would be the best choice(s) for a solution? Which ones work well together for an end-to-end design? How would one structure the VS project for something like this?

DataSource Controls :: How To Select Multiple Columns With Distinct Key Word

Web Forms :: Multiple Word Search In A Single Table Column?

Mar 3, 2011

I can easily create a search that will allow a user to input a single word (or a portion of a single word) into a text box that will search a database column.

But what I want is for the user to be able to type two or three words into the textbox and produce results where just one of the words have to match the contents of the columns cell.

I don't need to be able to do a multi column or table search, and I'm using C# and MS Access.

I imagine this question would have been asked more than a couple of times - but I can't find a decent answer.

Forms Data Controls :: Export Multiple Formview Pages To One Word.doc?

Jul 12, 2010

I have a database with an obscene number of fields: 169 (and yes it is fully normalized). There are so many fields that I had to split it up into two tables because auto generated SQL statements from an aspx page are limited to a certain number of fields (127 I think, but I can't find the reference with quick search). I do know that SQL server can handle 255 columns.

Working with different tables using auto generated SQL and auto generated template code is pretty much impossible without resorting to writing a ton of code to do all the sql work in the code behind (I'm lazy ok? You would be too with that many fields). So I've split the record data into two different formview pages. It's also easier on the user since they don't have such an enormously long page to scroll through. I used formview so that I could make the layout reasonable to look at rather than just a list like DetailsList would give.

So now I need to export this record (split over two pages) into Microsoft Word. I know how to do a basic export with just one page, but I don't know how to take two aspx pages and concatenate them into a single word doc, especially in the proper order. I want to do this from the formview because the Word doc has to have the same layout as the formview pages and writing a ton of css to accomplish that is a time consuming nightmare. I've attached a pic of page one so you can get the idea of the complexity of layout, page two is very similar.
