I am dealing with a problem that i have to make decision based on the number of items in a cascading dropdownlist. unfortunately this ajax toolkit control does not expose a Items collection.how do i count the number of items in this control ?

and I am also doing that if i select A and click add button then it'll be added in a gridview, then i selectB and click add button the B will be added to the gridview.. and so on.I want make it restricted like if i again select A and click add button then it should not be added to the grid view and show msgs thatA is already in the gridview. and if I delete A from gridview that and select A again and click add button the A should be add to the gridview.just let me know the logic with explanation.

View 4 RepliesI have a html.dropdownlist on my webpage as follows: <%=Html.DropDownList("MyDropDown", Model.Data, new { @class = "dropdown"})%> I am populating the dropdown with ~80 items. The issue is that when I click the dropdown the list of items is rendered from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen. How can I set up the dropdownlist so that it only displays a maximum of 20 items when the dropdown menu is clicked (i.e. user needs to scroll down to see items 21 - 80)?
I was anticipating (!) that there would be a html.dropdownlist property to control the number of displayed items that would allow something like the following e.g.: <% =Html.DropDownList("MyDropDown", Model.Data, new { @class = "dropdown", rows ="20"}) %> From research I have been doing on the msdn website it appears that there is no such property and that each browser has its own rules of how many items are displayed in a dropdownlist (?).

They work just fine but once the user saves the data and then comes back to the same page, I would like to show them what was previously saved. How can I pre-select items in the drop downs that I get from my SQL server db? I tried jquery, javascript, vb code behind and no luck so far. I'm sure i'm doing something wrong. Here is my code:
I've been trying to send my webservice a contextkey for the first drop down. When I debug the webservice, and I manually enter a context key, i get the correct values back with the value that equals my context key having <isDefaultValue>True</isDefaultValue>.

Example, if my dataset only returns 1 item, the value of that item needs to be 0

I am using cascading dropdown list where the no of dropdowns is created dynamically on the page. The cascading drop downs are contained in a User Control. I need to call a method from the Parent page which will be executed when the values in one of the dropdowns change. The server side event is not firing as I have set AutoPostback property for the dropdownlists to be false. How can i make the Page event fired from the Selected index changed of the dropdowns keeping the autopostback property to be set as false.

After checking, they will have to click on a button. for every checkbox that is checked, the result will be stored in an arraylist. after the button is clicked, the label will show the count of the number of objects in the arraylist, which is the number of items that were checked. I am using ASP.Net + .Net 3.5 + VSTS 2008 + IIS 7.0 + C# to develop a web application. I want to count how many users are online. This is my current implementation,when Session_Start is called, I will increase # of users online by 1;when Session_End is called, I will descrease # of users online by 1.Two quesitons,A Is that implementaiton correct?B. Another question is, I think this method can not track # of users of real time, since when user closes the browser, Session_End will not be called immediately (Session_End will be deferred to be called). If we create a counter in global.asax.cs, it will be able to count only within aspnet_wp process. In a web farm, multiple nodes will have IIS on multiple machines. If we use SQL server-based session management, can we get the total number of active session by querying the Session DB? If we later decide to use session state server to store the sessions, can we get the number of active sessions?

In your code. i tried using this code and facing a tiny problem. In above mentioned code 'ddlContinents.ClientID'.val stores integer value in contentId for obvious reasons but the requirement of my code is different. i want to pass text which is selected instead of id no.for example if mumbai is listed as second option and i select mumbai it should store mumbai in contentId instead of 2 i.e. integer value.

I've been trying to fill in webservice from SQL Server. But in-case this was the problem. I found an example on this site to fill with test values, but this still does not work. Since I cannot even get first to populate, to simplify I'm just giving code for first dropdown and its function(s)

Problem: I have 2 dropdown lists...
ddllist1 and ddlist2... Both are code-behind populated via a sql DB.
they are cascading lists via the ajax control.
I am trying to dynamically populate them with values from a DB for edit reasons.
When I try to get them populated I kept getting the error...
"dropdownlist has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items"
Solution:
1) get the values from the DB or from where ever...
2) create a sql select to get the values from the ddl db
3) set the ID of the first DDL control to cddcontrol1.SelectedValue = id (this is a number)
4) set the value of the DDL to the string value ddlist2.SelectedValue = value (this is a string)

But after trying a lot of codes i found it starts from 0 again when Application is closed.

I'm wanting to maintain the dropdownlist values that were selected when i use postbackurl with a button. They cascading dropdowns are on a masterpage in an accordion pane. I select the 3 vales in the ddl and then presss a button which redirects to the new content page.
I've been able to get the values using previousPage.master.fincontrol... but am then setting the selectedValue in the page_init of the conent page, but they aren't set when the page loads... does anyone know where to put the code to set the values?

I wan to do a autopostback to get the value of the Album GUId so that i can query out all the photo list of that album. it is working well if my page without the AlbumGUId query string.
my problem is:
when i redirect from other page and passing the Album GUId querystring to this page, it will display all my photo for this album guid. but when i change the album to Select which should be able to display all the Photos, it cannot display out. It only will work is when i choose another album and then go back to Select then it only can work..
