View 3 RepliesI ultimately need to show countries in one drop down then states/provinces drop down of the previously selected drop down. I'm sure everyone has seen this many times. My page shows the countries but does not show values in the province/states drop down. It's as if the webservice is never run. I've tried removing and adding the ajaxtoolkit reference. The tableadaters run simple working sql code. I'm really at a lose here.

I am dealing with a problem that i have to make decision based on the number of items in a cascading dropdownlist. unfortunately this ajax toolkit control does not expose a Items collection.how do i count the number of items in this control ?

I set up a webservice that works, but I can't figure out how to get it to work in javascript. I have verified that the webservice is working as expected.

This is working fine. The problem is when the page causes a postback before the end of the execution of the webservice's method. When that happens, the succeeded callback method never gets called. Does anyone know if there's a workaround to this?

View 2 RepliesI get this error "The server method xxx timed out." calling a WebService that internally does a hard query to the database, and takes some time. I use this method to change the webservice timeout, but it does not seems to do anything (the timeout errors appears in less than a second).

This has totally spoiled my .net 4 vs2010 realease day happiness. Running Cascading dropdowns using 'webservice' asmx method. Everything worked on .3.5 and i solved the running 'code In page' method with this post. Method error 500 [URL] Thought I was sorted but seems the rules are totaly different for the 'webservice method'. For example where did ToolkitScriptManager come from Ive been using ScriptManager for years. Anyway below is the Webservice and Page code. Ive looked at and tried everything of the forum but all of it is pre .4. This is demo code, the real version has 3 dependant dropdowns and the lookups are used several times so it HAS to be a webservice. My current theroies are:
1. Permissions- dosent makes sense.
2. Something missing in web.config to enable webservices.
3. Something to do with placement of 'System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService()>'

i am using Cascading dropdown, with following scenario.a page "myPage.aspx" is loaded with a Querystring. [http://localhost/myVD/myPage.aspx?jobID=003]this page contains 2 cascading dropdowns say state & City . the idea is to fill the provinces Combo based on INCOMING querystring value "jobid".also i have a webservice named "Mywebservice.asmx" which has webmethods to retrieve city based on jobID.but since these webmethods are Contained in asmx . the querystring of the caller page is not visible to the webmetod of the service.

Now i dont understand why my Autoextender is not call the webservice. I have tried callin the webservice from button click event...it works but not using AutoExtender..
I have a problem with 3 cascading drop downs. They are on a content page, so I have a Master Page as well. They work just fine but once the user saves the data and then comes back to the same page, I would like to show them what was previously saved. How can I pre-select items in the drop downs that I get from my SQL server db? I tried jquery, javascript, vb code behind and no luck so far. I'm sure i'm doing something wrong. Here is my code:
I've been trying to send my webservice a contextkey for the first drop down. When I debug the webservice, and I manually enter a context key, i get the correct values back with the value that equals my context key having <isDefaultValue>True</isDefaultValue>.

In IIS I have a virtual directory with only windows authentication enabled. From Javascript I call into a ASMX webservice. From the ASMX webservice I make a call to the SharePoint Search.asmx Webservice. whatever I try I keep getting the followin gerror message:

In above mentioned code 'ddlContinents.ClientID'.val stores integer value in contentId for obvious reasons but the requirement of my code is different. i want to pass text which is selected instead of id no.for example if mumbai is listed as second option and i select mumbai it should store mumbai in contentId instead of 2 i.e. integer value.

Problem: I have 2 dropdown lists...
ddllist1 and ddlist2... Both are code-behind populated via a sql DB.
they are cascading lists via the ajax control.
I am trying to dynamically populate them with values from a DB for edit reasons.
When I try to get them populated I kept getting the error...
"dropdownlist has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items"
Solution:
1) get the values from the DB or from where ever...
2) create a sql select to get the values from the ddl db
3) set the ID of the first DDL control to cddcontrol1.SelectedValue = id (this is a number)
4) set the value of the DDL to the string value ddlist2.SelectedValue = value (this is a string)

View 4 RepliesI'm wanting to maintain the dropdownlist values that were selected when i use postbackurl with a button. They cascading dropdowns are on a masterpage in an accordion pane. I select the 3 vales in the ddl and then presss a button which redirects to the new content page.
I've been able to get the values using previousPage.master.fincontrol... but am then setting the selectedValue in the page_init of the conent page, but they aren't set when the page loads... does anyone know where to put the code to set the values?

I wan to do a autopostback to get the value of the Album GUId so that i can query out all the photo list of that album. it is working well if my page without the AlbumGUId query string.
my problem is:
when i redirect from other page and passing the Album GUId querystring to this page, it will display all my photo for this album guid. but when i change the album to Select which should be able to display all the Photos, it cannot display out. It only will work is when i choose another album and then go back to Select then it only can work..

i try to do this using updatepanel :D this work , but at many times that apear my computer and my internet Explorer as busy and hang and i can not do any thing untill populate the second dropdownlist :(
