AJAX :: Listsearchextender Prompt Is Only Showing "..." And The Last Letter Typed?

Apr 2, 2010

I have several dropdownlists and added this extender to two of them successfully. Two others are getting weird results for the PromptText/SearchText. They show up as a barely readable '...' and the last character that was typed. I've tried making the ddl wider and making more room on to, neither helps. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

AJAX :: ListSearchExtender Prompt?

Before you recommend any of the other posts I have viewed to resolve this, let me this them here:[URL]
My problem:The listsearchextender displays below the dropdownlist even though it is specified to be on the top.The prompt is always "...x" where x is the last letter typed. This has somehow automagically resolved itself!

Here is my code:

Web Forms :: Tried Padding The Text Box To Move The Cursor Over, Which Worked But Didn't Fix It From Showing Up Before The Last Letter Typed?

Mar 4, 2011

I have a strange problem on my website that affects both IE 7 and IE 8 browsers, in that on a form with textboxes, once the cursor is placed in an active / enabled text box, the cursor itself shows up like 2 or 3 pixels to the left of the textbox. Mind you not a show stopper, but it is weird, because when you type text into these, the cursor flashing still appears before the last letter type. I think users will find that a bit confusing if they notice it.

I've verified that this is not happing in Firefox, Safari or Chrome.Any thoughts or ideas how to fix this?I tried padding the text box to move the cursor over, which worked but didn't fix it from showing up before the last letter typed.

AJAX :: Modal Popup Doesn't Work Using Sample Code Letter For Letter

I am trying to get the modalPopup to work. Don't get any errors, the panel popsup as is supposed to, but the background doesn't gray out and the background of the panel doesn't display correctly either (it is black). The background of the main page doesn't change. To make sure I wasn't doing something wrong, I downloaded the samplcode (vb) from the AJAX website, and created a completely new web page, css file, .vb file, etc. Still have the same issue. I am using the latest version of ajaxcontroltookit ( 4.1.40412.0), VS 2010 RC, and VB)

AJAX :: ListSearchExtender But In A Textbox?

Sep 25, 2010

the AJAX ListSearchExtender will manipulate listboxes, dropdownlist etc.In another discussion here i presented a filter that does this exactly as i want(and better imo). What i need to know is, if there is some mechanism that you can type in a textbox and bellow you get the data that you want(p.e. typing a will present "aardvark","afoul","ant" ,typing an "f" after the "a" will only show "afoul", you get the point) not in a predefined listbox with data but possibly in some other sort of(ajax?) control. So in sort the data will be shown when you start typing.A simple example is a forum that you go to the search option and you want to find posts by a user. When you start typing you get a list below with matching user names. So this is doable at least with php sites using JS.SoP.S. This filter is for future usage so i don't need a fast "alternative".And i think it's JS time again (

Security :: Windows Auth - Still Showing Login Prompt In IE?

Sep 17, 2010

I'm trying to setup my IIS 7.0 MVC2 site but having problems.I want to use Integrated Security so that the app can obtain the user's credentials. We can then do a look-up of some AD groups to determine what they can do from that point onwards. The problem is - Every time we browse to the application, instead of navigating to our main page immediately, we get a login prompt provided by IE. I've read that we need to make sure that in the browser's Tools->Options->Advanced-> (Securiy-> ENable Windows Intagrated Security) must be checked - which it is on ALL 3 machines where I try this.

The machines AND the server are all in the same domain. My config file states <authentication mode="Windows" /> and I've tried every combination for <identity...> and <authorization...> but to no avail. I can only get the "login" prompt to go away if I enable Anonymous Authentication - but then I can't detect the windows user or their group membership.

Web Forms :: Type In One Letter And Show Words Starting With That Letter In Textbox

Oct 14, 2010

I think this is a little tricky problem, but I need to solve it somehow. I have a texbox in my asp.net page. I want to show all names when a user types in a letter in that textbox, whatever names starting with that letter. the names are from a list generated by other function, pulled out from active directory. So for example: User types in "a" in a textbox then automactically names "aron" "asron" "amanda" in the list shows, and user can select one of those names.

I want to maintain the consistency of my database, I want the first letter and every letter after a space to be capitalized before the record can be entered into the database. Currently my validator expression (^[A-Z]+[a-zA-Z]*[0-9]*[^f

SQL Server :: Stuck On Update Query / Identify That The First Letter In A Column In T1 Corresponds To One Letter In The Middle Of A String In A Column In T2 For Instance?

Nov 30, 2010

Heres the situation: I need update a column from my table (T1) from two other columns in a different table (T2).

My constraints are:

That I have to match the first 4 letters of a column in T2 to one column in T1 I have to identify that the first letter in a column in T1 corresponds to one letter in the middle of a string in a column in T2 For instance:

My Table (T1):

Order Type Combined
Place
0090 0001 YYXX 1YY
0091 1001 YYXX YYY
0092 1002 XXXX 2XX

Table 2 (T2):

Order Value
00900001YY XX
00911001YY XX
00921002XX XX

The Combined column in T1 is what i'm trying to complete. The T1.Place column contains the first character that I want to check for.

If it's a "1" then I want to make sure the 5th letter in T2.Order is a "0" If its a "Y" then I want to look for a "1001" If its a "2" then I want to make sure the 8th letter is a "2" in T2.Order
If all that matches then I was the last two letters in T2.Order + T2.Value to be combined and put into the appropiate spot in T1.Combined

Here's what I have:

[Code]....

I know it's a little complex, but i'm really stuck on it and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Strongly-typed Or Weakly-typed Binding In Codebehind In Front End?

Feb 23, 2010

So my question is more in relation to what people consider to be the best practice and why:

I've been dropping literals into pages and repeaters and binding them in code behind for a while. Is this considered bad practice?

ie:

ASPX Page:

<asp: Literal id="litTextToInsert" runat="Server" />

Code Behind:

litTextToInsert.Text = objData.MyText;

OR (repeater):

[code]....

I personally dont like doing this as i find it makes it harder for me to know if someone changed the field name, or mis typed it during development - the other way you won't know until the page loads.

With the strongly typed version if something changes in your DAL etc the build will break - letting me know I've messed up.

Why do so many people appear to use weakly typed code in ASP.Net (in examples, MVC, etc)?
Am i missing something?

AJAX :: ASP.NET PageMethods - Back Button Causing 'Authentication Required' Prompt

Sep 27, 2010

Since last week I've had a really odd issue with PageMethods and the back button which i've never seen before. Essentially, I have a 'home page' which on document.ready (using Query), loads some data through PageMethods, and then renders a list - from which you can click through to a details page about the item. In general use, it works fine. However, using the back button after clicking through (ie: going back to the home page), it throws a PageMethods error. The browser's 'authentication required' prompt appears, and if you click cancel, the server returns a 404. The error returned by PageMethods on the client side is 'authentication failed'.

Just FYI, the application is using ASP.NET forms authentication. The weird thing is, this happens as soon as you click the link and click back. It's not like the authentication cookie has expired or anything, and if you click cancel when the prompt appears and refresh the page, it works fine. I just can't work out what is going on. I've tried disabling caching on the page [as I thought it was something to down with some browsers' caches of the DOM), but the same thing happens. One workaround i've had is to redirect the page to itself if the PageMethods error is 'authentication failed', which does work - but only when you cancel the authentication prompt. Obviously the prompt appears, which is not ideal. I don't understand it, and the user is clearly authenticated. Does anyone have any idea which might be happening? It's happening in Chrome, Firefox, and IE.

AJAX :: How To Get The Text Typed Into A Combo Box

Oct 12, 2010

Can I provide a Combobox that will EITHER let a user type in a value OR let them select from the dropdown? I am trying to create a scenario where a user can attach a value to an object they are editing. When attaching that value, I want them to be able to type in a completely new value or, select from a list of already-existing values.

When I create the combo box, I add a list item that has text like "Type a value or pick from the list"...this has an index of 0. Then I append the databound values to the list.

A combo box seems like the perfect solution since it combines a text box with a drop down list but, I can not figure out how to retrieve the text that has been typed into the combobox once the form is submitted. cmbMyComboBox.text seems to be the obvious way to do it but, that returns an empty string. If I try to get the SelectedItem.Text then, I get "Type a value or pick from the list" instead of whatever text I typed into the combobox, once it was displayed.

Am I trying to do something that the ComboBox is not meant to do? How can I accomplish this?

I have decided to abandon trying to use the combo box. I am trying to use a dropdown menu in one column, and text boxes in all the others. But, I am having a strange problem with that as well. I will post those problems in the appropriate forum. I marked this post as "No Status" because I didn't see any way to delete it.
