The error is this:
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.Details: Error parsing near '<!DOCTYPE html P'.
It appears in both FF and IE so far, and only happens on the live servers.
It occurs within partial (or attempted partial as they stop working and don't update) postbacks within an update panel on a form that is on every page. It doesn't always do it, but once it's broken, it's consistent. I have a suspicion that it kicks in after the pages in question have been posted back to by another page, but I'm not 100% about this. This form is absolutely integral to the function of the site.

I have a c# asp.net web application in .net 1.1. The web application is a website in IIS and works online at the world wide web. There are very much customers all over the world of that website and everything works fine. There is one customer in germany where it doesnt work fine. When he press on a button "New" he gets a popup with the error:

In the past he didnt get this error. I ask this customer to check the website on another machine in his organisation, but he still get this error. So its something in the organisation. Some machine settings or network settings I think, because other customers didn't get this error.Someone know why this organisation get this error ? Is it possible that the problem is at the machine or network settings? Or something with the web browser version/settings?

I am getting the following error using an update panel with a gridview.
Microsoft JScript runtime error:Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException:
The message received from the server could not be parsed.Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(),response filters,HttpModules,or server trace is enabled.
I have looked at all the "fixes" for this and none of them seem to be working.It works just fine on page load but when I click my async button,One row of the grid processes(I can look in the javascript debug) but after the firstrow is processed,I get the above error at this line.
try {
_this._webRequest.completed(Sys.EventArgs.Empty);
}
finally {
if (_this._xmlHttpRequest != null) {

I'm trying to understand how to execute AJAX animation on an asp button that has to execute code on Postback. In other words, I have button with code behind that needs to be excuted, but at the same time want to be able to have one of animation extenders be applied to it. I understand that I need to use the BeginRequest Event, I'm just not sure how, or which javascript commands to use to call the ajax animation so the postback will still occur.

We've inherited this ASP.NET website. We've already converted it to a web application for different reasons that doesn't matter right now.
But there are 2 folders with 2 .aspx pages inside that does some really ugly stuff (creates a new aspx file with its corresponding code behind and save it inside one of those folders).
So when the proyect was a simple website, that worked, because the created pages on runtime were compiled at request. This is not applicable to a web application.
We don't have time to re-code those ugly pages and do it as it should. So, is there a way to have those 2 pages (and the generated-at-runtime ones) excluded from the project and inside a website that is compiled at request?

I see there are 2 possible scenarios as to the session handling:
Open one single ISession per request. Open it at request start and close it at request end.Open one ISession per conceptual "unit of work". Many sessions are created for a request.
The approach #1 is the one I'm doing now. I'm a little bit worried about it because, although it works, it's a little bit difficult to debug. For instance, I have an object not being saved (even though I ordered it to) and I'm having trouble debugging since there's a LOT of things happening during a complete request life-cycle.
The approach #2 seems to be the standard best-practice (not sure about ASP.NET) and I'm sure it's pretty easier to debug. The problem I see is about inter-session communication. For instance: My Page class holds a reference to the User, which is a persistent object. Many of the operations receive the user as parameter. As the user belongs to a different session, I can't pass it as a parameter.
I'm biased to #2, but I don't know if it's the best practice, nor how to deal with cross-session object.

i am working on a asp.net webforms app, and i have to create 'dynamic order lines'That is : you select a product and a quantity, and the amount is calculated.
To visualize: this is on one 'line', so forst product dropdown, next to it the quantity textbox and next to that the amount label.
Then you click 'add another product', and another 'line' is added with a product dropdown, quantity textbox and amount label.
So you can click add and add and add....
Now i was thinking how to implement that, and i came up with two choises:
'add html client side' and 'add user control server side'
The first looks more fancy of course, but i also have to create some server side code to generate the lines again, when the user says 'go' but after validation i have to warn the user for example the amount was over credit or the quantity was to high. Then i get the 'client side' added html, and i have to reproduce that in my code behind, am i right?
On the other hand (add user control server side), i have to create a new user control on 'and another product' postback, which might look easier in the beginning because it's all strong typed, and the client side (jquery / javascript) isn't?
And one more thing: there is a possibility (they are not sure yet) that this functionality is wrapped within a 'section', with an address box and call it an order.And then: the user can add that 'section' also multiple times, so he can create multiple orders in one page, so i have to create multiple sections for an order, and within that order have the possibility to add another product.It looks like it will be hard to do this client side, especially with generating id's?

I am working on Windows 2008 Server (64-bit). I want to execute my web service as a pure (native) 64 bit service. All the assemblies referred by the web service are currently built as 'AnyCPU'.
When I publish the web service to IIS, and configure it to run under a 64-bit application pool (by setting 'Enable 32-Bit applications' = false), attempt to access the web service gives the error 'Application is not a valid Win32 application' because of a BadImageFormatException. This appears to indicate that somewhere an attempt is being made to load a 32 bit assembly. But the error does not provide any information about which assembly was found with an incorrect format. I have checked all the assemblies in the bin folder using corflags and they are bit agnostic.
I tried using the fusion log and identified a bind failure with VJSharpCodeProvider (though my service is coded only in C#). The runtime is not able to find the VJSharpCodeProvider because it is present in the GAC as an x86 assembly.
Is VJSharpCodeProvider the cause of the problem? I guess this is not the case because of the type of exception (BadImageFormatException). If I am correct, then how do I identify the assembly that is causing this exception?
If I change the property 'Enable 32-Bit applications' to true for the application pool, the service works fine, but I need native 64-bit execution.
