AJAX :: Controltool Kits And UpdatePanel Not Working On IIS7

Feb 15, 2010

I have been trying to read through a lot of suggestions from many forum about ASP.NET AJAX and IIS 7. I thought it was probably problem with my web.config. So, I created a brand new site to test the UpdatePanel and Ajax Control Tool Kits. Just one page which has oneTextBox + CalenderExtender and UpdatePanel with a Lable and a Button. It worked so well on the development server Cassini but when I published it to the II7 , it's not working at all.

So, What should I configure in the IIS 7 or should I do to my web site project / web.config ?

C# - Adding Different E-mail's In Web.config At Run-time?

Apr 8, 2010

I'd like to know if there is an automated method to add e-mail settings to web.config.

There is already an e-mail set, and it's currently like this:

<system.net>
<mailSettings>
<smtp deliveryMethod="Network">
<network host="0.0.0.0" port="25" userName="whatever@whatever.com.br" password="stackoverflow" />
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</system.net>

So what I want is:

1 - How do I add a new e-mail in there set by textboxes in the webform ?

2 - How do I differentiate which one I want to gather at the time ? could you give me a simple C# example on how to get the configs in one of the two ?

Security :: Adding Custom Membership To Web.config?

Nov 30, 2010

I'm currently writing a website in VWD2010 Express, which requires me to write a custom membership provider.

I've followed the tutorial here [URL] , which seems relatively straight forward.

I am, however, struggling at the stage where the custom membership provider is included in a site. Now obviously the tutorial writer is using a different version of VS to me, so I've had to adapt it somewhat. Instead of building the class as a dll, and referencing that in a new site, I've started a new site from scratch and added the custom membership provider to the Add_Code file (HDIMembershipProvider.vb). It is now required that I add details of the provider to the web.config file, which seems to be where I am encountering problems.

The tutorial requires me to add:

[Code]....

within the System.Web part of the web.config file. However, upon running the site I get the error:

Could not load type 'HDI.AspNet.Membership.HDIMembershipProvider'.

I realise that how you reference the class must have changed since the tutorial was written, but I can't for the life of me find the format I should be using, and trial&error has turned up nothing so far.

Adding Web.config To Data Access Component?

Apr 2, 2011

How do I add a web.config to a class library? I'm trying to build a data access component with two classes, one class that represents one thing and the other to perform data operations on that thing. However when I right click the project and click add item, I don't see information for adding a web.config, I just see information for adding an app.config. Maybe I'm doing this wrong? I'd like this component to be available to other asp.net apps that I will build in the future....

Forms Data Controls :: Adding Any Control Causes Web.config Failure

Feb 24, 2010

I have a brand new VS 2008 website using 3.5 frame. Default page works but if I add a chart or Gridview I get: Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DataVisualization, Version=3.5.0.0
in the Web.Config file the <add key="ChartImageHandler" value="storage=file;timeout=20;dir=c:TempImageFiles];" />

I am hosting on our own fully managed server - why the DataVisualization assembly is not being found. Also I was able to load the Default.aspx page until I tried to add a GridView to it. Now it too generates the assembly error eventhough I deleted it. If I comment out the DataVisualization assembly the default and test pages load - there are no controls on these pages. Ony text. Very confused. This is my first attempt at using VS 2008, I am using the trial version.

Visual Studio :: Assembly Entries In Web.Config Were Adding Automatically And Now They Are Not?

Sep 2, 2010

A while ago when i started using VS 2005, i found that some assembly entries were automatically added to from web.config

and i was getting annoying errors. later i found i have added unneccessary references in my application. And its a feature that assembly reference are automatically added to assembly tag in Web.config, So dev don't have to worry about it.

Recently i used Interop.OWC11.dll in my application. And ^&*# got the annoying

"CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Office' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"

error again.. Assembly entry was not added automatically. I checked same for existing references in my application, for them to automatic entries is not happening.... ? :(

I have to write is down in Web.config manually... I don't understand why?....

Adding MachineKey To Web.config On Web-farm Sites / Padding Is Invalid And Cannot Be Removed

Oct 4, 2010

We (out IT partner really) recently changed some DNS for a web farmed site we have so that the two production server have round-robin DNS switching between the two. Prior to this switch we didn't really have problems with WebResource.axd files. Since the switch, when we hit the live public URL, we get an error:

CryptographicException

Padding is invalid and cannot be removed.

When we hit the specific servers themselves, they load fine. I've researched the issue and it seems since they're sharing assets between two servers, we need to have a consistent machineKey in the web.config for each server so they can encrypt and decrypt consistently between the two. My questions are:

Can I generate a machineKey via a tool on the server, or do I need to write code to do this?

Do I just need to add the machineKey to the web.config on each server or do you think I'll need to do anything else to make the two server work together? (Both web.config's currently do not have a machineKey)

To Put All Sql In The Web.config Instead Of Code Behind?

Sep 13, 2010

I'm making the switch from vb.net to C#. And with that, I want to move away from using sql datasources in the aspx page, and put the code to execute my sql statements "where it should be". Only thing is, I don't know where exactly that is. Basically, there are a three or four stored procedures that a page of this small website may need execute per page.Instead of putting all this in the code behind of the first page, and then copy/paste similar in other pages, I'd like to put it all together in one spot and then have each page "call" as needed. Problem is, I just don't know where/how this should be to do this the proper way. I'm trying to learn a better way of coding this...

protected void getSectionContent()
{
SqlConnection conn = default(SqlConnection);
SqlCommand comm = default(SqlCommand);[code]....

Modifying Root Web.config In Code?

Jan 30, 2011

I would like to store some meta-information about a given site instance that can (a) be managed by that site instance and (b) persist clobbering of Web.config file.The site will run in multiple environments (dev,testing,staging and production) and each environment can have different values for this metadata.
Note: All environments are running IIS 7.0+

The Root Web.config seems very appealing, as it is certainly outside of the website. Therefore, both files and databases can be changed while maintaining the metadata. I have seen how to modify the appSettings of the Web.config stored in the website, but is it possible to similarly modify the appSettings in the Root Web.config (Specifically within the proper directive)?

Refer To Web.config Key Names In Code

Jul 1, 2010

When your web.config or app.config file has an appsettings entry, what is the best way to refer to its key in your code file? Developers I have worked with have differing opinions on this. Some say to hard code the string and others suggest that there should be a file containing string constants and in your code, you use the constant as the appsettings key. I would be interested in hearing other opinions on this. What do you do? Why is it the best?

C# - Dynamically Register An HttpHandler In Code (not In Web.config)

Mar 23, 2010

Is there a way I can dynamically register an IHttpHandler in C# code, instead of having to manually add it to the system.web/httpHandlers section in the web.config.

This may sound crazy, but I have good reason for doing this. I'm building a WidgetLibrary that a website owner can use just by dropping a .dll file into their bin directory, and want to support this with minimal configuration to the web.config.

C# - Use Connectionstring From Web.config In Source Code File?

Mar 15, 2011

I know this might be a very basic question, but maybe thats why im having problems finding the answer. Right now I'm creating database connections in my source files by doing something like this:

SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("Data Source=...Password=...);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(String.Format("SELECT * FROM Table;"), con);
con.Open();
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();

But this means that if I choose to change databases it will be a major pain in the ass. Do you guys know how to use the connection string from a web.config file instead?

Security :: How To Deny User With C# Code Instead Of Setting Web.config

But can I just write some code to do the same function?

like in page load method, I can check whether user is sign in, if user is not signed in yet, how can I redirect user to the login page by using code? and how can I stop sending the content of the page to user?
