View 1 RepliesA portion of my site requires data from a web service, with takes 7-8 seconds. How can I load the rest of the website, show a Updateprogress for the data which comes from the service, than show the data once obtained trough a updatepannel. Some working project would be great.I need the server to retun the page before the data from service is obtained, and add that data later using ajax
View 1 RepliesI am hosting a Windows User Control in my web page using <object> tag. Everything works fine when the control is outside the updatepanel and is independent of other web controls but when I move the control inside the update panel, it doen't load the user control properly.
<object id="myBrowser" classid="http:MyBrowser.dll#MyBrowser.UserControl1" height="20" width="400" VIEWASTEXT></object>
why it doesn't render the control properly and what can I do to fix it?
I tried moving the user control outside the update panel but since this user control is shown/hidden dynamically and is rendered based on other web controls which are inside an Update Panel, the user control is not shown at all.
I am working on a ASP.NET 2.0 application. It is hosted on IIS 6 on Windows 2003 server.
Few pages have jpeg images (around 50 images and 50 KB each). It takes long time to load the page for the first time. But when i open the same page for the second or third time it is faster.
why does a web page take long time to load for the first time?
Is it cached somewhere when it loads for the first time? Do we have any control over it?
I have a panel withitn an updatepanel with some buttons.
When one of the buttons is pressed, I'm updating a different update panel.
The problem is that when I click the button, nothing seems to happen.
If I click the button again , then I see the first update. If I click it again, I see the second update and so on..
I have create a link button ant run time inside Update pannel . The Problem is when press on this button the page is post back .

after filling all criteria when i press search button the result arrives in gridview nw when searchbutton pressed after that every 20seconds i want 2 update gridview data which is in update panel
View 3 RepliesIn my webform, i have 3-4 textbox, on there textchange event i have to fetch data from database and put it on the form. I have taken another html table (with runat="server") below textbox and and in textchange event created a new <tr>, <td> and simply added contents in <td>, then finally added <tr> in the table. This is done in UpdatePanel.
When i enter something in textbox1 data is added in that table, that's fine. But when i enter something in 2nd textbox the previous data is overridden. My requirement is that if 2nd textbox's text changes than another row with appropiate data should be added, i.e., now two rows. Silimarly if 3rd ,4th textbox data changes then subsequently 3 or 4 rows should be displayed.
I am hoping someone can help me out. I have a web application that contains a usercontrol think "employment details" a user can enter a previous employment detail.
I have created a page that contains an update panel a placeholder and a button. The button I want to use to load a new copy of the same usercontrol. Can anyone point me in the right redirect?
I have some code that I am working on that uses an UpdatePanel and some dynamically created buttons to perform functions. The problem is that the dynamically created buttons aren't working the same as my test static button, which is behaving exactly as it should be.
So I was wondering if someone would be willing to simply post an example (in VB.NET or C# please) of the following:
An UpdatePanel has a Label and a Placeholder inside of it
The Placeholder has a dynamic button added to it
Clicking on this button will make the Label say "Hi" without performing a full page postback.
If I can just get that much to work, I am sure that the rest of the code will be fine. I just can't seem to get my dynamic buttons to act like my static ones do in an UpdatePanel.
I have a pretty simple C # page that when the page first loads, a bio is diplayed in that center section based upon sql executed from my code behind. I have 4 link buttons on the page that when clicked, fill that center section with other content based upon which link button they clicked (News, Publications, Contact Info, and Presentations). I was all done, then I thought about using an UpdatePanel to get rid of the annoying "flicker" when the page posts back on the click of the link button.
View 3 RepliesI have 2-3 update panel in my page and i don't want to load chart every time when my page loads or button clicks etc. I put that in update panel with triggers means only some clicks should loads chart. but that chart gets loaded everytime. how to stop that from loading
View 2 RepliesI have a grid view in Ajax UpdatePanel. In a column of a grid view I have a button call btnAddNewRecord. I need to fire btnAddNewRecord.Click event once I click on that.
How can I do this?
This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again. Background. As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999. If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception. So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.
Public Shared Function MakeDateField(ByVal pasDate As String) As Nullable(Of DateTime)
If IsDate(pasDate) Then
Try
If pasDate <= System.DateTime.MinValue Then
Return Nothing
Else
Return CType(pasDate, DateTime)
End If
Catch ex As NullReferenceException
Return Nothing
End Try
Else
Return Nothing
End If
End Function
So I thought about using a time field. I have the field, have the validator in place and then attempted to test the page. It resulted in my least favorite error message "sqlDateTime overflow".
I can think of several workarounds like adding a date or a fixed date to the time field, or converting it to a string. Each of these is problematic.
IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO UPDATE/INSERT TIME FIELDS.
I have a gridview on my page. I have a checkbox in each row of this gridview. For each checkbox in the gridview, I'd like to update my table accordingly, but I don't want them to have to hit a submit button every time they check the checkbox. I want them to check all the boxes they need to and at the end, they should hit one submit button.
View 12 RepliesI need to do an update a field in database every x minutes. ie: a person login and I need to update a field related to they every X minutes until the value reach a value. Like this, this person start a count event from 1 to 10, they log off the web, but this count must remain countting until reachs 10, 1 by 1 every 7 minutes. I cannot do a SQL Job. Should I User a System.Timer??? Should I record the time and value of the last update, when the person log in I cauculate and update the value??
View 4 RepliesGiven a Database that has a table Called [Bid Transactions], which contains records of all available auctions that are currently running on an ASP.net website .. something similar to Ebay.com, when the deadline of the auction passed, I should close that auction, Send a notification message to both the item owner and the bidding winner to inform them.
how should I keep track of all open auctions? how could I monitor all their ending time and update the Auction status to be "Closed" on Real-time basis? ..
(1) Using SQL jobs ? .. that should reduce system performance .. shouldn't it ?
(2) A back-end service that is running on the server and uses Threading ? .. I have no clear background about that solution.
I have a panel bar..each time I press panel bar item I display ascx control with in update panel..but it lakes update panel loading time lot..how I can decrease that loading time?
View 2 RepliesCould anyone recommend any books and/or online tutorials for a beginner at ASP.NET?I'm mostly a beginner (I work with PHP, Perl and some Ruby on Rails, I know C++, Visual Basic, and a little Java). I have decided, with your help that I am going to learn in C#.The local Barnes & Noble had one book that looks like it's a downright awesome reference guide, but it may be a little advanced for someone just starting off.ASP.Net 3.5 Unleashed by Stephen Walter. It's written for people who already know C# (I can follow code easy enough
from my C++ background, but writing it would still be a bit of a challenge for me). Would I be better off getting a book for beginners (or maybe both) or this and a C# book, or should I be fine with this and online tutorials?
I have an Asp.Net web application system ,just wanted to know the procedure for increasing the idle time of a webpage
View 1 RepliesI would like to check how long an ASP.NET page takes to execute (server stuff obviously, not interested in how long it takes to throw the results down the line and for the browser to render them at this stage).
Having done some searching, I came across http:[URL] which shows how to do just this. Trouble is, it doesn't work for me. I copied the code exactly, but the execution time is always zero.
I tried enabling tracing, and that showed an elapsed time between Page_Init and Page_PreRender, but the values returned by Environment.TickCount were exactly the same in both events, so the elapsed time was 9obviously) zero.
