the thing is that i can't (don't know how to) use it in my .aspx page. i tried adding a "Register Assembly..." but i didn't got it to work.
i have a website project. i have 2 folders within default.aspx. in the root i have no default.aspx.
How can i redirect users when they are in Role "Folder1" to the ../Folder1/default.aspx
and user in Role "Folder2" to the .../Folder2/default.aspx
How can you request the root default.aspx without specifying it in the url for your root application?e.g. ttp://localhost/MyApp/ instead of http://localhost/MyApp/Default.aspxshould be able to do bothI'm not sure if this is a setting in IIS 7.5 for the application or what.
View 3 RepliesI often have an issue with compile errors when I copy over a aspx page and code behind file from another project, it seems to work when I create another page and the content manually but if I just copy the files it won't. I have checked to make sure namespaces and references are ok but still doesn't make any sense. The error I get is "Error The name 'txtUser' does not exist in the current context". I just wanted to understand why.

I have a bit of code I am reusing on a lot of my pages so decided to put this code into a Class and placed this class inside the App_Code directory. However when ever I try and create an instance of tis class so that I can use it's Methods etc I can't seem to get it to work, but if I create the class in the web root for the project it all wrks as expected.

In the first project i upload some images to a specific folder under the project root and save just the filename in the database, now i am trying to display this images at some page of the second project I know the filename from the database and the image folder as absolute pat but I have not been able to display the image, even thought when looking in firebug the image src is correct src="D:/MyFolder/image.jpg" the image does not display, probably because it is not pointing in the right directory. I have also tried using Server.MapPath and then my D location but still no success.
View 3 RepliesI'm using ASP.NET with VB, and .NET version 3.5. In the project, I've got some utility functions that I call from expressions in the aspx pages and also in code behind. This all works fine on my local machine, but when I deploy to the production server, I get this compilation error on each of those utility methods:

where XXX is an extension method defined on System.String. I'm baffled about this for a number of reasons:
Why is ASP.NET compiling anything at all, since I've precompiled the application and put everything in the bin directory. ASP.NET knows the functions are there because they work in code behind. It's only when used in the aspx page that I have this problem. (e.g. if I do something like this: <%= "A string to XXX-ify".XXX())%>) This method is public, which I verified with Reflector. I imported the relevant namespaces in the web.config file, and I can see that these namespaces are being imported in the call that ASP.NET makes to the compiler.
We're migrating from the web site to the web application model. Is there a way to allow the designer to use ftp to upload a single aspx page (foo.aspx and foo.aspx.cs) without requiring the use of the VS2008 Publish feature? We're a small shop and haven't bothered using source control as it wasn't much of an issue with the web site model. If the designer uses the Publish feature my binaries will be overwritten. I know that static pages are compiled at run time so I thought this would be possible but my tests result in errors. I've clicked around for some guidance but come up empty handed.

View 7 RepliesI am maintaining a web site project in VS2005 and have to call a new web service on a remote server. I've done add web reference, and created the .wsdl and .discomap files in the app_webReference folder. When I try to create a object representing the web service in the code ( wsnamespace.serviceName ws = new wsnamespce.serviceName(); ) the code wouldn't compile.
The web site project is already calling other web services. When I right click on the type representing the web service and "go to definition" it takes me to a proxy class (derived from of course SoapHttpClientProtocol) in the metadata. I think this is what's missing for the new web service i'm trying to call. Have I missed any steps?

IIS threw back the error that the operation requires IIS integrated pipline mode, which obviously isn't available because we're running IIS6.
I have a simple ASP.NET 3.5 application running under IIS7 under a virtual directory. So the URL of my app is like http://site.com/app. I want to 301-redirect the request to site.com/app/default.aspx to site.com/app for better SEO. I have to do this redirect through code only, not by any IIS settings. I am unable to do so via code mentioned in this article:

seems to go into an infinite loop when the application is under a virtual directory. the request.RawUrl property always returns "/default.aspx" even after a 301 redirect causing the infinite loop.
I have a main_menu.ascx web control placed in my root and contains my website navigation menu with NavigationURL to the pages
I have my root files and I included the ascx file there Until here, I have no issue Now!
I have sub folders in my root and I want to include same ascx file because I don't want more than one main_menu file!
But the problem here is with the NavigationURL because it will be different when the aspx file is in sub folder
How can make sure my NavigationURL is referring to the correct path whether aspx in root or in sub folder?

However, I cannot see the DataClassesDataContext in the code behind file. It is not listed in the intellisense list.

The web-app is configured to run with framework version 3.5 in a .Net 2.0 app pool. Also the framework 4.0 beta 2 is installed on the server. The application named 'TestPfade' is located under the website's root named 'Default'. It is not only a virtual directory but defined as an application. When viewed in a browser the image gets shown because the given relative path is correctly resolved to 'images/Lighthouse.jpg' but the paths to the ajax-framework resources also include the application's root folder and therefor aren't found: 'src="/TestPfade/WebResource.axd?d=1bX...' I am using iis 5.1 in which we have only only one default website, I have two projects v2 and v3 my website points to v2 projects and have some folders images, styles etc now i have a virtual directory under this website that is hosting project v3 and having the same folder hierarchy as v2 in the home page of the both projects i have img src="imagesedlogo.gif" alt="logo"/> but this shows the same image that is in the v2 directory, How can i show different images for both projects. using "" get the root of the web site but how can i get the root of virtual directory under that website
