Web Forms :: Web Project: Allow The Designer To Use Ftp To upload A Single Aspx Page ?
Feb 22, 2010
We're migrating from the web site to the web application model. Is there a way to allow the designer to use ftp to upload a single aspx page (foo.aspx and foo.aspx.cs) without requiring the use of the VS2008 Publish feature? We're a small shop and haven't bothered using source control as it wasn't much of an issue with the web site model. If the designer uses the Publish feature my binaries will be overwritten. I know that static pages are compiled at run time so I thought this would be possible but my tests result in errors. I've clicked around for some guidance but come up empty handed.

My current Web Site does not have any designer.cs files. (Yes it is not a Web Application)The site is complete but now I added 2 Clases to my site and all good but when I want to make use of my GridView it tells me this:This is because I wrapped my code with the same namespace as in my classes like so....
namespace samrasWebPortalSQL
{
public partial class GridView : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Functions.RemoveCaching(this);

I work in VS 2008. Whenver I add a server control(Label) and set it properties in aspx.vb and build the solution, I get the error "Label1 not declared". While analyzing this issue I noticed that the event handler statements for the Label1 where not added in the designer.asp.vb file. These statement would actually be added automatically when I drag and drop a control to my webpage.
I would also like to inform the scenario after which this problem came to me. I was working in VS 2008 , VS 2005 and VS 2003 in the same machine.Could this have caused the issue ?
Now each and everytime when I add a control, I am adding the "With Events" code in the designer page to make my build succesfull which makes me to spend more efforts.

I have some webforms in an Asp.Net V2.0 generated using Visual Studio 2005 using Web site technology
Want to import them in to Visual Studio 2008 set to v3.5 (Asp.Net MVC) - where I use Project technology
I'm using Add > Existing Item - Which brings in Whatever.aspx & Whatever.aspx.cs There is no Whatever.aspx.designer.cs to import
How do you force it to be generated ?

im developing an asp.net website application but suddenly all changes i make to the page in the visual studio designer are not being saved for some reason. Every thing i do in the code behind file is saved with out any problem, also if i edit the .aspx file but in sourceview, the changes are saved, but if i drag a control from the toolbox onto the page designer and set some properties and then save, nothing will have been saved when i close and re-open the page, all changes are lost.

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important.

I am using a custom error page in IIS 6:<customErrors redirectMode="ResponseRedirect" mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error2.aspx"/>I want to disable authentication for the custom error page because the error being raised is related to an authentication module and I don't want to get into an infinite loop and I want to display a clean error page to the user. I have been trying the following configuration to do that.
<location path="Error2.aspx">
<system.web>
<authentication mode="None"/>

I have some aspx.designer.cs and .cs files that have disappeared due to some pc problems. This is for a tutorial I'm doing online. I've been able to download new aspx and aspx.cs files for this part. When I paste them into the directory and include them in the project I still don't have a aspx.designer.cs file. Is there a way to get this to be created while pasting the other files into the directory?

I have a Perl script that calls aspnet_compiler.exe to compile a large ASP.NET website. The problem is that it takes very long to run. Is there any way to compile just a single .aspx file from the command line? (I think that would suit the needs of my script) It seems that all aspnet_compiler.exe can do is compile at a directory level.

I often have an issue with compile errors when I copy over a aspx page and code behind file from another project, it seems to work when I create another page and the content manually but if I just copy the files it won't. I have checked to make sure namespaces and references are ok but still doesn't make any sense. The error I get is "Error The name 'txtUser' does not exist in the current context". I just wanted to understand why.
For e.g I copied over the following :
ASPX
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" %>
Login
Login

The first time I created my model, I thought a manual fix would keep it okay. But everytime I open my project, the model is updated and the Designer.cs is formatted weird. The following picture shows the main problem: I'm just not sure how to permanently fix it other than going through and deleting the "System.Data." and "System.whatever" paths when they are referenced. That is the only way the build/publish succeeds, and it's very time consuming to complete each time.

I'm using ASP.NET with VB, and .NET version 3.5. In the project, I've got some utility functions that I call from expressions in the aspx pages and also in code behind. This all works fine on my local machine, but when I deploy to the production server, I get this compilation error on each of those utility methods:
BC30456: 'XXX' is not a member of 'String'.
where XXX is an extension method defined on System.String. I'm baffled about this for a number of reasons:
Why is ASP.NET compiling anything at all, since I've precompiled the application and put everything in the bin directory. ASP.NET knows the functions are there because they work in code behind. It's only when used in the aspx page that I have this problem. (e.g. if I do something like this: <%= "A string to XXX-ify".XXX())%>) This method is public, which I verified with Reflector. I imported the relevant namespaces in the web.config file, and I can see that these namespaces are being imported in the call that ASP.NET makes to the compiler.

I have read about the file upload control in asp.net and tried it and works great. But I want to know if I can use it for another purpose. I have a video capture control that can be used for webcam apps or anything else. It has a method called HTTPUpload where it will upload an image file to the server using the HTTP upload protocol. My question is can i use the .net FileUpload control for this? And if so, how can I pass the image file straight to the .aspx page without having to submit a button? Would the file be as a query string variable?
Arguments:
WebServer = web server address
WebPage = name of upload web page
Fields = list of 'fieldname' and 'fieldvalue' values delimited with '|'
Files = list of 'fieldname' and 'file path' values delimited with '|'
Returns TRUE if successful, or FALSE otherwise.
Example
vcx.HTTPUpload "[URL] , "upload.asp",
"field1|value1|field2|value2" ,
"file1|c:foldermypic.jpg|file2|c:foldermyvideo.avi"

I am maintaining a web site project in VS2005 and have to call a new web service on a remote server. I've done add web reference, and created the .wsdl and .discomap files in the app_webReference folder. When I try to create a object representing the web service in the code ( wsnamespace.serviceName ws = new wsnamespce.serviceName(); ) the code wouldn't compile.
The web site project is already calling other web services. When I right click on the type representing the web service and "go to definition" it takes me to a proxy class (derived from of course SoapHttpClientProtocol) in the metadata. I think this is what's missing for the new web service i'm trying to call. Have I missed any steps?

Hardware involved:
SQL Server 2000
Microsoft Server 2003 with IIS6 [code]...
The goal, from internal department (user) perspective:A department wants to "upload" an excel spreadsheet of data (product, term, rate, etc) to SQL (this will be from the internal network). The data is then saved to a webpage location for that department to view and approve. Once "approved," this data is displayed on the live web servers (public-facing website which is two load balancing servers).
Bonus:
The .NET application/SQL Server can send an email to the department reminding them to upload the latest rates (each weekday morning, then each Thursday afternoon) if rates have not yet been "approved."
From the development perspective, this is my general idea, but I may be wrong.There are three spreadsheets, each with one tab. The first spreadsheet is uploaded, and the .NET application puts it in a SQL table. I then need to display this table of data on a .aspx page for the department to approve before the .aspx page is pushed to the live web servers.
First, I need an interface for this department to upload Excel files. I need this application to save the data to SQL and display it in a .aspx page so that the department can look it over and approve it. The department needs a way to "approve" the page, and this action will push the data to the live web servers. Will this involve SQL data transformation services?

Combing the web for a simple file uploader for ASP.NET with a server side save and preview capability didn't reveal anything simple, and I noticed a lot of people were struggling to get something too.I figured this example out today. It uses existing techniques and is simple. Downside is that you have to use session for the temporary store, and the Ajax AsyncFileUpload usess session too.Written in VS 2010 - I hope you find it useful. This is the basic working code - that should easily be exandable even for more demanding requirements such as Repeater controls etc.
