C# - Creating Composite Control With Client Feature?

Nov 7, 2010

I want to develop composite control where some of the work would be executed on client side. For that I am implementing IScriptControl.

ScriptReference points to a script file with client object.

Let's say I want it to have Listview(html select) control that onselect will run javascript function based on the selected value.

I can't just create the control dynamically is client js, because the control has UI on design mode so I must create the select control on server side (I create it in override void Render)

My problem how and where to assign the onselect event for the selection.

Update: Maybe I should add select's id as property to ScriptControlDescriptor, then in client control retrieve this id and attach the needed handler to the event?

AJAX :: Error When Rendering A Rating Control In A Composite Control?

Feb 11, 2010

I have a custom control that renders different controls based on a property value. This all works correctly until i try and add a rating control to the control. When i render both controls in the CreateChildControls the control is rendered properly.

However when i try to add layout by overriding the RenderContents method and rendering controls there, an error is generated
Extender controls may not be registered after PreRender.The code shows both methods of creating the controls.

I want to create a ASP.net Project in MSVC 2008 with the following...

- SQL 2005 database that I can use MSQL Server Management Studio with

- Forms authentication

- Authentication/roles etc is stored in the above database

So far every attempt has resulted in a database that when I attach with MSQL Management Studio I am logged in as guest, and thus can't do much.

AJAX :: Web User Control Loaded Into PlaceHolder Control Causing Full Postback On Parent Page?

Jun 1, 2010

In my default.aspx page I have a PlaceHolder control within an UpdatePanel. In this placeholder control I will dynamically load a web user control, which is just a form with a submit button. On this user control, I have the form within an update panel and I have the "Submit" button's Click Event added to the triggers.

When I submit the form, the UpdatePanel on the web user control nor the update panel on the default.aspx page are capturing the post back, thus causing a full post back which refreshes my page.

how to capture this post so its rendered in Ajax and not a full post back?

Can anybody tell me how can i access ScriptManager in my Composite Control?

I do have reference of system.web in my project but when i type System.Web.UI.

i am not able to get reference of ScriptManager afeter UI.

The reason for doing this is that i have a composite control which is registering some client script on OnPreRender event.

this control works fine when placed on web page without update panel but gives error "object expected" when placed in an update panel

i am registering client script as follows

I want a browser to go full screen as soon as my page loads. Is it possible in javascript. I know the shortcut key for this F11 but requirement is on page load only.

Web Forms :: Assignment Of FormView Control In Design-time To User Defined Composite Control

Feb 1, 2011

i create a composite control as can be seen in code below, and add this control to webform, assign FormView1 to the HeaderControlName property, Run the page, the system will generate parse error message :
Cannot create an object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormView' from its string representation 'FormView1' for the 'HeaderControlName' property. However, if i don't assign FormView1 in design screen and manually (through coding) assign FormView1 to the custom control on init, it works as expected.

custom control
public class CmdTest : CompositeControl
{
public virtual FormView HeaderControlName
{
get
{
object oObject = ViewState["HeaderControlName"];
return (oObject == null) ? null : (FormView)oObject;
}
set
{
ViewState["HeaderControlName"] = value;
}
}
protected override void CreateChildControls(
{
Controls.Clear();
Button xx = new Button();
Controls.Add(xx);
}
}
webpage.aspx (assign FormView1 in design time, it will generate error)
<Utils:CmdTest ID="CmdTest1" runat="server" HeaderControlName="FormView1" />
webpage.aspx (didn't assign FormView1 in ASPX, but assign it on Init Code, it works)
<Utils:CmdTest ID="CmdTest1" runat="server" oninit="CmdTest1_Init" />
Webpage.aspx.cs
protected void BsCmdTest1_Init(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CmdTest1.HeaderControlName = FormView1;

Does A Composite Server Control(inc. User Control, Custom Server Control) Normally Encapsulate Css Properties?

Nov 7, 2010

If a composite server control normally encapsulate styling information inside, it is an example of code encapsulation and modularization. However if css properties are included inside the composite control, it is not ideal for code/styling separation and css code re-use principles. Now which consideration should be the main consideration?

AJAX :: Full Page Postback Using Login Control?

Apr 14, 2010

I'm using an UpdatePanel (with UpdateMode conditional) and in the ContentTemplate I've got a Login control. Even though the control is embedded in the UpdatePanel as soon as the Login-button is hit a full page postback is being done. I've read some posts on the subject indicating that these controls are incompatible - but these posts already date from 2 years ago. Does anybody have more recent information on the subject?

AJAX :: Custom Control In Updatepanel Should Create Full Postback?

Jun 2, 2010

I am searching already the web for some hours to get this working. I created a custom control (ConfigTree), which has a treeview as part of it. I put the custom control into an update panel. So far so good. When I click on different buttons (in ucc:ConfigTree) or the treeview in the custom control an async postback is done. When clicking on a node in the treeview an event for the parent element (ConfigTree) is generated, which populates again an event (NodeSelected) for the parent element (shown below). Different parent elements can handle the event differently. In one element (this one) I need to transform the async postback in a real postback with full page refresh. For better understanding see the following code:

[Code]....

the parent element (here shown) should process the OnNodeSelected and transform it into an full postback and not just an async postback, but only this event, all the other events in the ucc:ConfigTree should processed async. How can I do that? Is there a method to call in the code behind?

AJAX :: Calendar Control Not Popping Up?

May 16, 2010

Recently upgraded to VS2010 and just (today) downloaded the latest version of the toolkit. The calendar doesn't pop up when my date textbox receives focus. I never encountered this problem with VS2008 and have many of these controls installed and working fine.

I have the toolkit dll in the bin directory and have added a reference to it. The project builds fine - no errors. The page code looks fine - no errors or ugly blue squiglies. In design view everything looks fine - no error messages.

The implementation in question is about as basic as it gets:

The code:

In web.config <Pages:

<controls>
<add namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" tagPrefix="ajaxToolkit" />
</controls>

On the page:

<asp:ScriptManager EnablePartialRendering="true" ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" />
<asp:TextBox ID="StartDateTextBox" runat="server"
autocomplete="off"
Width="100px" />
<ajaxToolkit:CalendarExtender ID="CalendarExtender1" runat="server"
TargetControlID="StartDateTextBox"
Enabled="True" />
