DataSource Controls :: Creating A New Project And Having Full Database Control?
Feb 23, 2010
Ok, I have some experience, but I have always started with something and moved on from there.
I want to create a ASP.net Project in MSVC 2008 with the following...
- SQL 2005 database that I can use MSQL Server Management Studio with
- Forms authentication
- Authentication/roles etc is stored in the above database
So far every attempt has resulted in a database that when I attach with MSQL Management Studio I am logged in as guest, and thus can't do much.

Never really worked with the asp tables but for this project it makes more sense, I am having trouble addding rows dynamically from the sql datatable i am pulling. In hte datatable it has 12 rows with 14 columns, I need to make this into a table, with a dtagrid I would be done but I have to pull other data that they could add columns, so a table I am told is easier.
This gets my data and I can see it
mydataTable = new DataTable
mydataTable = GetData(sql)
mydataTable.add.row(myDataTable.rows(0)(0))
I get nothing but errors trying to do this, what is the correct way to add rows to an asp.net table
Can I add this all to a datagrid and then add the extra columns I need if they are there with out using a table.

I've got a MS SQL (Express) database. its quite complex and uses a lot of tables. Is there a way to generate a SQL script for creating the complete database, but not the content of it.
I like to copy the database. Right now i copy the database. After that i need manually to clear all fields. There are also some relationships, so its a lot of work to clear all of it manually.

If I have a DataTable (in-memory) read by my C# program from a flat file, and I want to create it as a new table in a SQL Server database... what is the simplest way to do that?
It seems like something like SqlBulkCopy with an option to create a new destination SQL server table would be on my line of thinking, but I dont see a way.

On my webpage, jobs.aspx, I have a gridview which is populated from my database. I would like it so that when a row in the gridview is clicked, the ID of the row from my database can then be passed through as a query string to a second webpage, details.aspx, where more information about what was clicked on will be displayed.
I'm confident about being able to pass the query string, I just need help with getting the corresponding row's data ID from my database and making the gridview click-able, which will be the interaction which specifies which ID to be retrieved.

I am trying to get VS 2008 SP1 to precompile a development site using the Web Deployment Project method. I've done this previously with a different site containing ASPX pages, with success. However, this is a third party example web application containing a set of ASCX controls. The idea is that I want to create a precompiled DLL containing the controls, that can then be distributed as a library DLL. I thought the the use of WDP should allow the compiler to compile all the ASCX controls, and then optionally merge them all into a single DLL.
The problem is, the WDP build reports that it succeeds, but the only file generated is the precompiledapp.config file. On closer inspection of the reporting, it seems that the only error reported is:
aspnet_merge : warning 1013: Cannot find any assemblies that can be merged ...
which I assume refers to the DLL merging process at the end of the compile. This that the compiler was unable to find or process any of the ascx controls in the web application, and so didn't produce any DLLs from them.
I don't really understand what is going wrong here. Should I be able to run a Web Deployment Project like this to compile ASCX controls in this way, and if so, what is likely to be going wrong here? Could the ASCX files somehow be protected from the compiler, to prevent redistribution?

I am using ContainsTable() to perform a full text search on a field (of type varbinary()) and am I wondering if there is a good way to return an excerpt of text around at least one location where the keyword matched the text in the field.Example:User searches for "computer science".The following sentence exists in the varbinary() field: "This book is about computer science and other IT related fields."I would like to return an excerpt around the words "computer science", something like: "...book is aboutcomputer science and other IT..."

I am sure I am not the first to ask this question but I cannot find an answer in these or any other forums. I guess I am not wording the question right. In short I have a gridview populated but a database via an SQLDatasource. I have an Edit column in the datagrid and an updatequery in the datasource. When the Edit is click the line goes into edit mode, the user then clicks Update and I get an error. Could not find control 'DropDownList1' in ControlParameter 'Frequency'. The only complication is that there is a drop down control when the "EDIT" column is selected. The dropdownlist gets it list from another SQLDatasource. This all works fine. Here is the code snip:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateEditButton="True"

I want to retrieve the full SQL that my Web Application generates and executes on the database. So when the INSERTED or UPDATED events are triggered on the SqlDataSource, I want to get that particular SQL Statement.
The problem I've got there though is when I use "e.Command.CommandText" that gets the SQL statement with the paramter names NOT the paramter values. I specifically need the values.
So... how can I get it to display the full SQL statement containing submitted values!?

I would like to do an attachment on my database but I lost the full-text catalogs file. Sql server won't let me attach the database without it. What do I need to do to overcome this issue? Is there a way to tell Sql Server to skip the missing catalogs? If not, how do I generate another full-text catalogs file to replace to lost one?

This is my first time using autocomplete. I have everything up and running, but I want to return a list of more relevent keywords or phrases from my full text catalog, or the table that I search against. I have no idea where to start as far as my getcompletionlist goes.
So If I type in knee
a list appears
kneepads
here's my getCompletionList
Public Function GetCompletionList(ByVal prefixText As String, ByVal count As Integer) As String()
Dim items As New List(Of String)
Dim myConnectionString As String
myConnectionString = GetSQLConnString()
Dim mySelectQuery As String = "SELECT ShortDescription FROM ProductInfo WHERE FREETEXT(ShortDescription, @prefixText) OR FREETEXT(LongDescription, @prefixText) OR FREETEXT(ProductHTML, @prefixText) OR FREETEXT(PartNumber, @prefixText) ORDER BY RANK()
OVER (Order BY PartNumber, ShortDescription, LongDescription)"

I'm new with all stored procs - but I have a very basic Full Text Search going on...I created a stored proc, and linked it up to my application using Linq to SQL. If I use Linq to SQL to call the stored proc without any parameters (hard coded search string) i get results back, as soon as I add a parameter - the result set is 0 for some reason.
The funny thing is that I run Profiler and execute both queries its trying to do - and it looks identical
Here is the working parameterless query:
[Code]....
and according to Profile this is what it looks like when its called as a stored proc
[Code]....
I get 2 results as expected.
Here is the NON-working stored proc that takes in 1 string parameter
[Code]....
and here is the query that gets called when profiling
[Code]....
declare @p4 int

I am actually using 2 type of queries in my website e.g
These Queries are from my stored procedures
SELECT * FROM TblName WHERE FREETEXT(ColumnName, @parameter)
AND
SELECT * FROM TblName WHERE CONTAINS((Column1, Column2), @parameter))
I have enabled Full Text Indexing on my tables both local and on my hosting company MS SQL Server.
The above queries are working fine on my local database and return results but these queries return nothing when i try to run them on hosting company MS SQL Server.
I have identical data on both MS SQL Servers and both servers are 2008.

I have installed sql server 2008 express along with visual web developer 2008 express (latest sp1) using web installer now I downloaded this file:
'Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Express with Advanced Services' from here: [URL] but when I run the installer and choose add new features to existing instance of sql server I get no full text search feature option in the list, There are only a few options that are selected and greyed out (because they are installed previously) in the list of available features. Why I don't have full text search feature in the list and how to find and install it? (mine is the 64bit version)

I am having with the a full text index I am developing for a product catalog. It does all work to a degree I am just seeing some strange things happening.
From the database side I have a Products table that is being indexed on both the PartNumber and Description columns because I would like the users to be able to search either or using the search function.
Problem 1:
whenever I use multiple words in the search I don't always get the results I am looking for, this happens most notably when I am attempting to say put in a full part number (which for in this case would look like "I 10-9.2")
Problem 2:
I am not 100% sure that this is the most efficient way of completing what I am attempting to accomplish here since I have 2 columns that I need to perform the search on
Here is an excerpt from the click even when the user clicks the search button on the page:
[Code]....
And here is the search functions called from the click event to firstly check if there are any results and the second to display the results in a custom gridview:
[Code]....

I use the code, to display the file that I saved in the database.the question is: why the file can not be performed with a full screen.
protected void View(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int peraturan_id = int.Parse((sender as LinkButton).CommandArgument);
Session["peraturan_id"] = peraturan_id;
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "open", "window.open('file_view.aspx','_blank' );", true);
}

I'm implementing an AJAX autocomplete feature where the user types into a textbox and the webpage generates suggestions (pretty much like how Google's search box works). I got the AJAX part to work right, but for some reason, my database query does not.Let's say I want to find "Chicago". Using the following query does not find it.SELECT TOP 10 citynames FROM city WHERE CONTAINS(citynames, 'chi*')But using this query does.SELECT TOP 10 citynames FROM city WHERE CONTAINS(citynames, 'chicago')By the way, "citynames" is an ntext type field and I'm using SQL SERVER 2008.Does anyone know why my first query can't find "Chicago"? I've been staring at that query for hours, yet can't find anything wrong with it. Something wrong with the database maybe?
