View 2 RepliesIam working on a web based form where I have a DDL to which I have attached a field validator which is not working. It should function in such a way that whenever the DDL is left to blank, it gives user an error. I have introduced that BLANK in the DDL using ListItem as I found that as the easisest way out.
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList4" runat="server"
DataSourceID="AccessDataSource4" DataTextField="myState"
DataValueField="myState" AppendDataBoundItems="true">
<asp:ListItem Selected = "True" Text = "" Value = ""></asp:ListItem>
</asp:DropDownList>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="reqState" runat="server"
ErrorMessage="RequiredFieldValidator" Text="Required Field"
InitialValue="None" ControlToValidate="DropDownList4" Display="Dynamic">
</asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
I am trying to get the required field validator to work. I have given it an initial value of the first index value in the dropdown list. I is just not working. Will my contrrols residing on a View of a Multiview control effect anything. I am using all drop down lists?

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to create a custom control that has a dropdown list and a required field validator in it.I've got as a far as being able to set the error message if the control fails to validate, but I can't actually get it to validate, not can I figure out how to call a .Validate method server side. This is driving me nuts!
To create my control, I followed the article here I ran the text box example through, and I can get that to validate without any problems, so I then went through and created a new set of class files relating to a drop down list.Anyone got any thoughts, or hints as to what might be wrong, or where I should start looking?
I created my custom validator in one project, something like that:

I have 3 drop down boxes, created using the HTML select tag. On page load, the first box has a few names. Now, when I click on one of the names in the first box, some more names should appear in the second and when I click on a name in the second box, some more names should appear in the third box. How can I achieve this using AJAX? I have to use ASP.Net and MS SQL Server only. I'm a complete noob to AJAX and I've been educating myself about it, but nothing's working out. I've been looking for the code for close to a week. I looked up w3schools.com, but when I tried that code, it didn't work. Please help me out and please tell me step by step, the things required in order to make it work, and what goes where. I have a deadline that is fast approaching and am at my wit's end trying to make it work.

I have a validator callout extender that works, it shows the callout box. But, it does a postback. It didn't do a post back the first time I clicked the button but it did for subsequent times. I read on the AJAX site that a custom validator must be used with this for it to work. I'm currently using this with a required field and regular expression validator. It works, the callout appears, but it doesn't work every time with out the post back.I posted this to see if there is a way to get this to work with a required field and regular expression validator, with out using a custom validator. I'm using the newest release of the toolkit, so I thought the documentation may be old, since the callout is appearing.

does anyone have an thoughts as to what might be going on ? I 've had a sr. developer look at this to make sure the code was right... He seems to think this could be a bug...

View 1 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2008 and created a simple ASPX page with two drop downs in it. I am using the Update Panel so that when any item is seleted in drop down 1 the second drop down selected item will change accordingly.

View 3 RepliesI seem to be having a problem loading a gridview using 2 cascading drop down lists. Before I implemented the Ajax cascading drop down list extenders and I just had regular drop down list the gridview that is supposed to load when users choose the appropriate data from the 2 drop down list appears when the submit button was triggered.
[Code]....
When the button event is triggered it looks for the specific value in the second drop down list and calls a specific stored procedure to load the gridview. Now after implementing the cascading drop down lists the page just posts back - there are no errors whatsoever.
I am looking for a filtering mechanism, as the user types in the drop down box I want to filter the list to the list items that match what the user is typing. Is there any premade control for this or does anyone know the best way to achieve this feature?
