Jquery - Unknown Web Method Exception When Calling Shared WebMethod
I'm trying to implement a view tracking web service on my website. I'm using JavaScript because I want to exclude any search bots from my tracked views. The problem is I'm getting a "Unknown web method" error when I try to use jQuery to post to the web service I've created.

$(document).ready(function() {

The error is an ASP .NET error: Unknown web method TrackItemView. Parameter name: methodName.I've done this hundreds of times (seemingly), but I just can't see what I'm missing. I'm sure it's something small...

AJAX :: ASPX WebMethod Not Running The WebService Webmethod Returning The Page?
I have a service that works great on my development box. It uses JQuery to hit my web service, and then the JSON results are sent back.

The web service is located on our basePage.cs. We didn't want to put out an external WebService for this. Our on beta box something different is happening.

The web page seems to be trying to call the web method correctly - the JSON data is being sent... but the server doesn't seem to know it's a webmethod. here's my service function (it's in our basepage.cs which inherits from Page).

AJAX :: Unhandled Exception During PageMethod After Moving To .NET 4.0?
I have written an application that relies upon PageMethods. It was workingfine in .NET 3.5 where I would rely upon exceptions to signify something failing during the call. I would then alert the user to what ever it was that happened. All was working great. I transitioned to .NET 4.0 as I am intrigued by the Parallel Computing improvements. Now any exception that I throw in the PageMethod in the code behind is met with an Unhandled Exception. Nothing has changed other than the target framework.

Web Forms :: PageMethod/WebMethod Not Being Executed?
PageMethod which supposed to be called/executed when "onChange' of dropdownlist is triggered is Not being executed. I have 3 dropdownlist being created at runtime/dynamically inside a compositecontrol class and loaded (.dll)in a page at runtime. I have added a scriptmanager in the master page and set EnablePageMethods to true, tried placing the webmethod function outside of the compositecontrol and in the page, still webmethod is not being called... Anyone has idea or solution to this problem of mine? Or another approach to retain the selected value of the dropdownlist inside this compositecontrol (.dll)that is being loaded in a page at runtime?

VS 2008 Calling Another .aspx Form Using Javascript Not Working?
I have a .aspx page that has a button on it.When the user clicks on the button, it should call another .aspx page. I am using the following javascript code that works well in our development region. But when it is deployed to another IIS server, it doesn't work.

Code:
function Open_HistoricalRunswindow() {
window.open("http://10.129.1.102/QAWebUI/HistoricalRuns.aspx", "_blank", "toolbar=no, location=yes, directories=no, status=no, menubar=yes, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes, copyhistory=no, width=1000, height=500");
}
I replaced the IP address with the word localhost and it didn't work either.For some reason, when the user clicks on the button, it opens up another browser window and the address seems to be like this. which is very weird.[URL]I don't understand why the link is getting messed up? Is there any alternate solution for this problem? May be I use server code to call the .aspx page instead of Javascript?

C# - Calling Method On Master Page From WebMethod
, imagine a Master page that implements IFooMaster with a method

ShowFancyMessagePopupTheBusinessCantLiveWithout(string message);

I am in a page that inherits this master page. Upon a checkbox being unchecekd, I want to show a message to the user that if they save it, they can't re-check the checkbox without some admin action.

I've been given feedback that I can't just use an alert('message'); in javascript because they want the consistent look of these messages.

Next, I tried to make an ajax call via PageMethods (as that's what everything else in this codebase uses) to show a message. My problem lies in this method being static.

[WebMethod]
public static void ShowSuperImportantMessage()
{
if(!checkboxICareAbout.Checked)
((IFooMaster)Master).ShowFancyMessagePopupTheBusinessCantLiveWithout("If you uncheck that thing, you can't recheck it.");
}

Since ShowSuperImportantMessage() is static, I can't access Master from within. The method on the master page looks more or less like this:

public void ShowFancyMessagePopupTheBusinessCantLiveWithout(string message)
{
lblGenericMessage.Text = message;
btnGenericMessageOK.Focus();
upGenericMessage.Update();
mpeGenericMessage.Show();
}
mpeGenericMessage is an ajaxtoolkit:ModalPopupExtender.

upGenericMessage is an update panel.The other 2 are obvious.

Can I do some jQuery kung-fu to show that stuff? I tried, but the solution complained that the controls I tried to refer to by ClientID didn't resolve since they were on the Master page.

quick edit: Before anyone tells me the architecture is a problem, or I shouldn't have put such a thing on a master page, or w/e...

I know the situation is not ideal, but I this is inherited code, and I can't drop it all and rewrite half of their web stack.

C# - Calling WebMethod Via JQuery From JavaScript On ASCX, Needing Value Of Control?
I understand how to use jQuery to make an AJAX call to a WebMethod from a normal page, but I'm running into problems doing it from a UserControl (ASCX). Right now the biggest Issue I'm having is that the JavaScript for getting access to the groupDropDown control is not working. It seems that since this is a UserControl hosted within DotNetNuke, the ususal method of getting the CLientID is not working since it is nested down x number of levels. Here is what I have:

Javascript:

function validateEnrolledDate(src, args) {
var isValid;
[code]....

I'm now just referencing a TextBox:<asp:TextBox ID="dealerId" runat="server" CssClass="theDealer" />

The Text in the Textbox is being set in Server Side code, and it is visible on screen.The alert message is "undefined", so something is still happening so that it is not getting the value of that textbox...

Web Services - Having An Ambiguous Type Error When Calling A WebMethod On .NET Web Application?
The message sent to browser is as follows:

The type My.API.Class is ambiguous: it could come from assembly '[on Temporary ASP.NET Files]' or from assembly '[on bin folder]'

The problem occurs when debugging a Web App, speciically when making a request to a WebMethod of a WebService.The project compiles just right. It generates My.Website.dll on bin folder and if I publish the Web Application. It works fine.The asmx file is on the root of the application. The CodeBehind file is on App_Code and its marked to be compiled to generate My.Website.dll.The way this person exposes its problem is somehow similar but I get starting to be lost when he talks about a proxy class and shared dlls I don't use.

C# - Catching A Custom Exception Thrown By A WebMethod On WebService
I have a classical asp.net web service (asmx) and a web method in it. I need to throw a custom exception for some case in my web method, and I need to catch that specific custom exception where I call the web service method.

[Code]....

However, I cannot do that because when I add the web service reference on the client, I have service class, input and output classes, but I do not have custom exception class.

Also another problem is that, I have also problems with serializing Exception class (because of Exception.Data property implements IDictionary interface)

Is there a way to do this in my way, or am I in a completely wrong way, or is there something I miss about fundamentals of web services?

Console Application Calling Datalayer Throws An Exception "The Type Initializer For Threw An Exception."

Recently I required to add new console application to the existing solution in which I call data layer methods for retrieving data from DB but I get an exception "The type initializer for threw an exception."When I debugged I found that the exception is thrown at datalayer on first line of class where I get connectionstring from

web.config, the code is public static readonly string CONNECT_STRING =

ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DbConnectString"].ConnectionString;

Now if I hardcode the connection string value like public static readonly string CONNECT_STRING = "Data Source=XYZ;uid=sa;password=XXX;initial catalog=ABC;"

it works fine.I don't understand what is the issue here as web application works fine with this datalayer.

AJAX :: AjaxControlToolkit.ToolKitScriptManager.OnInit() Throws Thread Abort Exception For Every Aspx Page
AjaxControlToolkit.ToolKitScriptManager.OnInit() throws thread abort exception for every aspx page. I have an asp.net 2.0 Ajax application, where I have set the following properties of ToolScriptManager on my pages.

<ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager ID="ToolkitScriptManager1" runat="server" EnableScriptGlobalization="true"
EnableScriptLocalization="true" CombineScripts="true" EnablePageMethods="true">
<Scripts>

I have this configuration on all the aspx pages in my application. When I checked the .NET CLR exception Performance counter I figured out a large number of exceptions, mainly one exception per page load is occuring. On running windbg I was noticed that

AjaxControlToolkit.ToolKitScriptManager.OnInit() has the following code block which is getting executed. The OutputCombinedScriptFile() returns true. But since I am setting my controls on DesignTime still designmode is set to false for toolkitscriptmanager.

if (!DesignMode && (null != Context) && OutputCombinedScriptFile(Context))
{
// This was a combined script request that was satisfied; end all processing now
Page.Response.End();
}

I am not sure if this is a reported bug or even a bug with ajax, but this is causing havoc in my load test results as I have around 3 hundred thousand HTTP requests to be handled per day out of which 80% are aspx page requests resulting in a large number of threadafbortexceptions, thus affecting the performance.

AJAX :: UseHttpGet Causes PageMethod To Fail?
I have a PageMethod that works perfectly wellwhen it either (a) running in the VS dev server, or (b) deployed butmarked with UseHttpGet=false.

What doesn't work, and is driving me mad, is having UseHttpGet=true and then deploying it to a test server (Vista & IIS7). It fails to call through the proxy with error code 404 coming back. But it works find if I set UseHttpGet=false.

I have gone through all of the basic stuff I can think to check, and as noted it works perfectly well on the dev box. So there must be something particular about full-blown IIS7 and its config that I am missing..

anything to check in the IIS manager that would cause this to fail? I've tried with forms authentication enabled and disabled, as a few posts mentioned issues with that.

AJAX :: Use A AutoCompleteExtender On A MasterPage With PageMethod?
I put my ScriptManger on the top level Masterpage with EnablePageMethods set to "true".2. I put a AutoCompleteExtender (AjaxToolkit) on a second level Masterpage which derives from the top level MasterPage. The AutoCompleteExtender is used for search with a TextBox. The PageMethod is defined in the Code Behind of this second level Masterpage.3. I have several Contentpages that derive from the second level Masterpage.Problem: The AutoCompleteExtender does not work and that's probably because the PageMethod is defined in the second level MasterPage in the CodeBehind and not in the Contentpage. Ok, so I'm pretty sure what causes the error,- I do not want to use a WebService, because I don't want the search to become public. And as far as I know you can't define a WebService that is only visible to the Website itself - it's always public.- It would be stupid to put the search on every Contentpage just for the PageMethods sake.

AJAX :: AutoComplete Extender Using Pagemethod Resulting In 401.1
We have used the ajax toolkit auto complete extender in an intranet app which uses Windows authentication. The auto complete uses a static page method in the page code behind to get the results. Even though the page containing the auto complete is authenticated by the server and the asp.net session id set in the cookie, the initial requests from the auto complete result in 401.1 and after few attempts result in a 200. This irritates the users of the app. Also later on there are 401.1 happening intermittently among the various 200 there by affecting the responses.

I have verified these responses by using Microsoft Network Monitor,Fiddler and Firebug. Also these entries are present in IIS logs. I tried to implement the same with a script service but that too gives same issues. Our site has lots of ajax features and controls and everything is working fine, only this issue is there.

VS 2008 - PageMethod Not Working "The Server Method Testing Failed"
I have a master page/content page going on in this situation. The page has two page methods that work, and they feed info to a pair of autocomplete extenders. The script manager on the Master Page has 'EnablePageMethods' set to true. The content page has a ScriptManagerProxy. The strange thing is that I have used this pattern on four other pages within the project.

<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function testing(ByVal uid As String, ByVal issn As String, ByVal journalName As String) As String
Return "true"
End Function

Here is the javaScript code:

function AddJournal(uid, issn, journalName) {
alert("uid: " + uid + " issn: " + issn + " name: " + journalName);
PageMethods.testing(uid, issn, journalName,
function(res) {
if (res !== "true") {
alert(res);
} else {
alert("The journal " + name + ", issn as " + issn + " was successfully entered.");
}
return;
},
function(res) {
alert("The journal database could not be accessed
" + res.get_message() + "
Status Code: " + res.get_statusCode() + "
Exception Type: " + res.get_exceptionType() + "
Please try again.");
});
}

The fail function is executed, and the status code is 0 (zero), and the exception type is an empty string. I can change the function with no parameters, and I get same error. I can the leave the parameters at three on the VB side, and change the parameters to two on the client side; then I do not get the error message, but none the other alerts are executed.

Mobiles :: Exception While Calling HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream()
From my windows mobile application, i want to connect to the server which resides on my local machine. I want to use HTTPS.

SSL certificates have been implemented and they dont cause any problems.

However, i get an exception at the code line

Stream requestStream = webrequest.GetRequestStream();----> webrequest is an object of HttpWebRequest class

The exception message is "Could not establish connection to network." InnerException is null.
