Access :: Select MAX ID If No Request Passed?

Aug 9, 2010

I hope this makes sense. I want to pull the largest record from an Access dB if no parameter is passed in a QueryString.

Under normal situations, my query might look like this; http://www.XYZ.com/videos.aspx?id=1

What I would like to do is have the page "http://www.XYZ.com/videos.aspx" load the MAX ID record by default. I tried this, but it won't even load the page portion that is suppose to contain the data and returned no errors;

<asp:AccessDataSource id="AccessDataSource2" runat="server" DataFile="_database/92592_Web.mdb" SelectCommand="SELECT *, (SELECT MAX(ID) FROM myMovies) as Max_IDFROM [myMovies] WHERE ([ID] = ?)" CancelSelectOnNullParameter="False">
<SelectParameters> [code]...

Access :: Fill The Grid With Values Where (Alpha) = "A" (passed Value) ?

Dec 17, 2010

I am very new to Asp.net--I think this should be very straightforward, but it's not working for me. I'm tyring to pass a variable between pages (actually it's from the same page, but same idea) to query a database and fill a grid.

I'm using this line to call the page:

<a href="Webform2.aspx?letter=A">A</a>

and this for the query and grid

<asp:AccessDataSource ID="AccessDataSource1" runat="server" DataFile="database.mdb" SelectCommand="SELECT [Hyperlink], [Type], [Language] FROM [List] WHERE [Alpha]=@letter">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:querystringparameter DefaultValue="B" Name="Alpha" QueryStringField="Alpha" Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:AccessDataSource>

I want it to fill the grid with values where [Alpha] = "A" (passed value) but it fills it with values where [Alpha] = "B", my default value.

MVC: First Access After Some Minutes Slow, Then Every Following Request Is Fast?

Jul 30, 2010

when I access any page of my ASP.NET MVC website first time, then this first request is slow. It needs about 4-5 seconds to load. But every following request to any page is fast.When I wait some minutes or a hour then every first request is slow again. Every following request is fast.

I think that IIS 7 is compiling the code and keep it in memory. After some time it will delete it from memory so it needs to compile it again.What can I do that every first request is as fast as every following request?
(Without precompiling my source, if possible)

Access A Database Table Multiple Times For Every Request?

Mar 16, 2011

A class in my ASP.NET website needs to access a database table multiple times for every request. The database table should rarely change, if ever. Maybe a couple times a month.

In the static constructor of the class, the table is fetched from the DB and cached in a static local variable. Whenever the class needs to access the table, then, it just uses the cached, static version.

My question concerns the lifespan of this cached, static version of the table.

I understand that it's fetched the first time the class is instantiated or a static method in the class is used. But how often does this occur on the web server? What if the table changes and we want to reset this static version of the table?

Basically, I'm wondering, is this table fetched once and then only refetched each time I restart IIS? What, with regard to the site and IIS, will trigger this static class to reset, causing the static table to be refetched?

C# - Access The Selected Node In The Treeview Using The Request Array?

Mar 4, 2010

Suppose I have a treeview, where each treenode contains an id for a different set of user controls. When the user clicks a node, these controls should be loaded to the page. As I understand the ASP page life cycle, dynamic controls should be added in the initialization stage, and postback events will fire later on.

So if the treeview click event happens after I need to add my controls, how do I dynamically add controls based on user postback events?

Edit: I tried the ArronLS:

What I did was add the node value to the session array, and use that when I do the init to choose which form elements to load to the controls of a placeholder control. On the treeview click event, I update the node in the session array, clear the old form elements in the placeholder, and add the new form elements to the controls. When the page is loaded again, it should now find the node at init time, so viewstate problems would be circumvented.

Now I haven't fully tested this yet, but there was another similar post that talks about the problems that might result with the viewstate. They suggest a solution that polls the Request[] part of the context (in their case the dropbox) within the Init control, manually handling some of the postback functionality.

My new question is how to I access the selected node in the treeview using the Request array?

ADO.NET :: Ado And Access - Sum Query SELECT SUM() As Total

Dec 31, 2010

Need to do a summary report of two items, sales and commissions by sales person, by date range. There are only a handful of salespeople. I messed around with SELECT SUM() for a few hours last night. It works easily, up until you need to do a few table joins, to say join on employee id to pull in names. Then it starts getting pretty convoluted, fairly quickly. Question is, is there maybe an easier way of doing this in asp.net than through the sql? It is Access, so I don't think LINQ will work, right? Just wondering if there isn't a quick, easy way of doing this that I don't know about.

Access :: Modify Select Statement To Show All Jobs In Database

Jan 11, 2011

My students are working on an ASP.net VB application for a Web Programming competition and we are having problems with a page where we want an URL string to return all values from our database. Here is the page: [URL] If you use the jobs by category menu on the left side, if you select a job category (ie retail) it will pull up all the jobs from that category. By using a query in the URL like this: [URL] What we need is an option that would pull up all of the records regardless of category. So we made a menu option that passes the value "all". Like this: [URL] We use this information for the dataset we created (we're using Dreamweaver, ASP.net VB and and Access Dbase). We made a dataset SQL as follows:

SELECT *
FROM jobs, businesses
WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin and jobcategory = ?
ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC

This works fine if a value is passed. For example if "retail" is picked from the menu it passes the value just fine and returns all jobs that have "retail" as the job category in the database. My problem is, how do I modify the above Select statement to show all jobs in the database if the value "all" is passed for the jobcategory. My first thought was to create an If statement that says something to the effect of:

If jobcategory = all THEN
SELECT *
FROM jobs, businesses
WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin
ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC
ELSE
SELECT *
FROM jobs, businesses
WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin and jobcategory = ?
ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC
END IF

But I haven't been able to figure out the correct syntax. I also tried making this work by using a query in MS Access:

SELECT *
FROM jobs, businesses
WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin
AND (jobcategory = @jobcategory or @jobcategory = 'all')
ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC;

(which does work within MS Access) and calling the query in the Dreamweaver dataset but apparently MS Access can't do that.This seems like it should be easy but so far this problem is kicking my butt.

ObjectDataSource Databinding: Getting Object Properties By Select Method Call - How To Access Value

HttpHandlers / Modules :: HttpModule That Alters Request.QueryString And Request.Form?

Jan 27, 2011

We're trying to implement functionality that intercepts, inspects, and alters if needed data in the Request.QueryString and Request.Form collections.

Since Request.QueryString and Request.Form are readonly, is it possible to use a HttpModule to do this without Reflection or Response.Redirect?

We're thinking that we can construct a new HttpRequest, and replace the original one. Would there be any implications in doing this?

I know mocking this object is impossible without using HttpRequestWrapper, but wasn't sure whether ASP.NET sets other things beyond the constructor.

Accessing IIS's Request Handling Pipeline To Inject A Request And Get The HTML Response?

Dec 9, 2010

Is it at all possible to inject a request into IIS for a page, have IIS and ASP.Net handle it as normal, but get the response as html handed back to me programmatically?

Yes, I know that I could connect to port 80 using WebRequest and WebResponse, but that becomes difficult if you are accessing the IIS server from the same physical machine (loopback security controls et al).

Basically, I want to inject the request (eg for [URL]) between the points at which IIS would normally talk to the browser, and the point at which it would route it to the correct ASP.Net application, and get a response back from IIS between the points at which ASP.Net/IIS applies the httpfilters and hands the html back to the browser.

I'm predominantly working with IIS7 so if there is a solution that works just for IIS7 then thats not an issue.

MVC :: Request.Params Request.Form Not Working In Internet Explorer 8?

Jun 29, 2010

This is a input

<input type="image" src="<%=Url.Content("~/images/shopping-cart.jpg")%>" alt="shopping cart" id="btnshoppingCart" name="btnshoppingCart" value="shoppingCart" />

when i browse the page with firefox and click on the input Request.Params["btnshoppingCart"] != null or Request.Form["btnshoppingCart"] != null is statisfied.

When i browse the same page with internet explorer 8 and click on the same input Request.Params["btnshoppingCart"] != null or Request.Form["btnshoppingCart"] != null is not satisfied. When i used the watch i saw that there is no key by the name of "btnshoppingCart" in either Request.Form or Request.Params if input is clicked from internet explorer. However when it is clicked from firefox there is value "shoppingCart" inside Request.Form and Request.Params against "btnshoppingCart" key. One more strange thing that i observed was that are two keys "btnshoppingCart.x" and "btnshoppingCart.y" inside both Request.Form and Request.Params whenver clicking is done from both internet explorer and firefox. This is happening against all inputs of type image irrespective if the input is present inside a html form or not. Forms are created like this

<% using (Html.BeginForm("Action", "Controller", FormMethod.Post)){%>

The version of internet explorer is 8.0 and firefox is 3.6.6

Determine If A HTTP Request Is A Soap Request On HttpApplication.AuthenticateRequest

Jan 21, 2010

I there a way to know if a request is a soap request on AuthenticateRequest event for HttpApplication? Checking ServerVariables["HTTP_SOAPACTION"] seems to not be working all the time.

public void Init(HttpApplication context) {
context.AuthenticateRequest += new EventHandler(AuthenticateRequest);
}
protected void AuthenticateRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) {
app = sender as HttpApplication;
if (app.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_SOAPACTION"] != null) {
// a few requests do not enter here, but my webservice class still executing
// ...
}
}
I have disabled HTTP POST and HTTP GET for webservices in my web.config file.
<webServices>
<protocols>
<remove name="HttpGet" />
<remove name="HttpPost" />
<add name="AnyHttpSoap" />
</protocols>
</webServices>
Looking at ContentType for soap+xml only partially solves my problem. For example,
Cache-Control: no-cache
Connection: Keep-Alive
Content-Length: 1131
Content-Type: text/xml
Accept: */*
Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
Accept-Language: ro
Host: localhost
mymethod: urn:[URL]

Some clients instead of having the standard header SOAPAction: [URL], have someting like in example above. "mymethod" represents the method in my web service class with [WebMethod] attribute on it and [URL] is the namespace of the webservice. Still the service works perfectly normal. The consumers use different frameworks (NuSOAP from PHP, .NET, Java, etc).
