Access :: Access Does Not Seem To Recognize Full Outer Join?

May 10, 2010

I am using Access as my database for an ASP.NET project/Vb.NET. However it seems as though Access does not support Full Outer Joins.

Basically I have two tables in one query used to populate a Gridview. I need to list all available companies and their employee count even if that Company does not have any employees and return the result as 0. Is there anyway I can do this in an Access
query. The relationship layout is the tblCompany has a 1 to Many relationship with the Employee table.

Below is what I would like have happen however access does not seem to recognize FULL OUTER JOINS.

SELECT DISTINCTROW tblCompany.Comp_Name, tblCompany.Comp_CompanyID, tblCompany.Comp_CreatedOn, tblCompany.Comp_Status, Count(*) AS [Employee Count]
FROM tblCompany FULL OUTER JOIN tblEmployee ON tblCompany.Comp_CompanyID = tblEmployee.Comp_CompanyID
GROUP BY tblCompany.Comp_Name, tblCompany.Comp_CompanyID, tblCompany.Comp_CreatedOn, tblCompany.Comp_Status;

SQL Server :: Trying To Return The Right Number Of Records Using Left Outer Join?

Aug 5, 2010

I have 9 tables i need data out of.. 8 of those tables will always just return 1 row of fields that i need. the 9th table can contain many records.. So what i need is a few fields out of each of the 8 tables and then ALL records from the 9th table.. so i know that because there will be multiple records in the 9th table returned, that the fields i pull from the other 8 tables will contain duplicate information and thats fine since i will be displaying the individual records from table 9 on their own page..So everything could be for the same vendor, except for the date in the 9th table that contains specific dates and details about each record returned.When i review the execution plan im getting an yellow exclamation icon on a nested inner join and has this message as the warning: No Join Predicate

Here is what i have, but is returning incorrectly, way to may records, seems to be stuck in a loop.. then below that, i have one that returns the correct number of records, but everything except one column is duplicate, all the TR columns should be unique in the values stored in them.. the rest should all be duplicates, just because its the same vendor, so all the other information will be generic information about that record.

[Code]....

This FROM and WHERE return the correct number of records, but the fields are all duplicated except the last column with is transaction_date, seems that the 3 TR fields are being populated with the first records data or something.. not sure.

[Code]....

DataSource Controls :: Outer Join In LINQ Getting My Desired Result?

ADO.NET :: Left Outer Join With Multiple Tables And Generic Lists In Linq And VB?

Nov 16, 2010

I'm having trouble doing a left outer join with multiple generic lists tables. I've been researching for hours and there isn't a whole lot out there on this subject and VB (at least what I found).

I have the following Linq query:

Dim DataForGridview = (From s In S1 _
Join c In C1 On c.ID Equals s.ID _
Join v In V1 On v.ID Equals s.ID _
Select New With { _
.dataFieldID = s.ID, _
.dataField1 = s.dataField1, _
.dataField2 = c.dataField2, _
.dataField3 = c.dataField3, _
.dataField4 = c.dataField4, _
.dataField5 = v.dataField5 _
}).ToList()

S1 has a count of 30. V1 has a count of 20. C1 has a count of 10. This query joins the three but ends up with a count of only 10 based on the datakey ID and, of course, only shows those 10 in the gridview.

I would like to show all 30 from S1 in the gridview with blank fields wherever V1 and C1 do not have data. From what I've read I need to do a left outer join. However, all examples I've found are with two datasets.

I've tried multiple times expanding on what I've found by changing it to a group join and also adding the .DefaultIfEmpty() property in the query, but nothing is working.

How can I change the above query to a left outer join with these multiple tables?

Visual Studio :: Cannot Get VWD To Recognize Database Where Access Is Limited To An Internal IP

Mar 24, 2010

I cannot get VWD to recognize a database where access is limited to an internal IP from the Web server. Remote connections directly to the database aren't allowed.I'm using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express on my machine. Our Web site is on a remote hosted server, say 1.1.1.1. We have MSSQL 2005 set up on another remote hosted server, available only through an internal IP, say 2.2.2.2, from the Web server. RemotI'm going crazy trying to establish a connection in VWD that will actually display the database in VWD's Database Explorer, which would then allow me to use the VWD tools to add data elements to my pages.

DataSource Controls :: Clause Criteria Eliminating Records In Outer Join Query?

Feb 15, 2010

I know I'm missing something here but I can't figure out what it is. I've got a query joining three tables....accounts, payments, and a table linking the two (there is a M:M relationship).I'm trying to pull a list of all accounts in the account table that have a payment that needs to be resequenced, and also the maximum payment priority if there are any payments that haven't been fully paid. If all payments HAVE been fully paid, I want to return a 0.

It's that last bit of logic that I can't get right. If I include that in the where clause, I get only the accounts that have a payment that hasn't been fully paid. If I take it out, I get all the accounts I get, but I get the highest payment priority whether or not the payment has been fully met.

Here is the query....how do I include the where clause criteria but still include all accounts?

select distinct
bat.acct_id,
isnull(max(isnull(crt.pymt_priority, 0)), 0)[code].....

Feb 17, 2010

Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?

Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with
IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )

Using System.Data.OleDb;

I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.

Is It Possible To Prevent File Access Outside The Website Folder While Keeping Full Trust

Jan 4, 2011

Setting the .Net trust level to Medium on a site will ensure that no code can access files outside the application directory.

I have an ASP.Net site that must run in Full Trust. I have configured my website in IIS to use its own Application Pool Identity [URL].

Currently it is possible for scripts/code in this app to read files outside of the application directory. This occurs because by default, accounts that are a member of the BUILTINusers group are able to read most files on the system, including c: and c:windows. It appears that Applicaion Pool Identity accounts are also members of BUILTINusers.

Is it possible to prevent file access outside the website folder while keeping Full Trust?

Access :: Reading Data From Access With A Linked Table (pointing To A Access Table On Another Location?

Sep 7, 2010

Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.

1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.

In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:

"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".

Some extra info:

- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone

- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)

- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)

- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)

- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />

Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)

Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:

- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)

- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.

I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.

DataSource Controls :: How To Access Database Once With Big Resultset Or Access Multiple Times On The Fly

Jun 17, 2010

I have a situation where I am accessing a database multiple times and I'm wondering if it is necessary.

I have a GridView with a template column with a hyperlink to "Get Results" and on the RowDataBound event I have it check the batch number against the database and see if results exist and then if they don't, hide the link.

So when viewing the page if there is 20 rows in the gridview it is effectively doing 20 queries.

I was wondering if it is a better idea to query the database once with all "batches" and load it into a datatable, then on the RowDataBound event query the datatable. The only issue I see with this is there is currently 40,000 batches and grows daily.
