Access :: Assign Database To AccessDataSource Control Dynamically?

Nov 5, 2010

How do I assign database to AccessDataSource control dynamically.

If I load aspx page by mypage.aspx?DB=100 then I want to use 100.mdb as data base

If I load aspx page by mypage.aspx?DB=200 then I want to use 200.mdb as data base

Both databases are identical except for the fact that data is different.

Here's default code - Need to replace Bold Code with equivalent of DataFile = response.querystring("DB") + ".mdb"

<asp:AccessDataSource ID="AccessDataSource1" runat="server"
DataFile="c: rims2k&#65533;00001000.mdb"
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [EquipmentUsage]"></asp:AccessDataSource>

Access :: Configuring AccessDataSource?

Jul 25, 2010

When I add an AccessDataSource and attempt to configure it, the "Advanced SQL Generation Options" panel opens, but checkboxes "Generate INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements" and "Use optimistic concurrency" are sometimes grayed out.It appears that this happens when a table is specified that contains a foreign key, and it also seems that any Update query statement I specify in conjunction with a related databound gridview doesn't "take". What's the story here? Is it not possible to update a database table from a databound gridview control if the underlying table has a foreign key? Or is something else going on?

Access :: Get The ID Of The Record Just Entered Using AccessDataSource & FormView?

Mar 17, 2010

I'm using an access database that has an AutoNumber field as the primary key. After adding a record I'd like to retrieve the ID for the record that was just entered, however, I'm not able to figure out how to do this in ASP.NET using standard AccesDataSource and FormView functionality. My goal is to retrieve the ID so that I can then use it to add an additional record in a child / sub table.

I could do it strictly using vb.net and forget about using the InsertCommand for the AccessDataSource and it's built in functionality. However, that would require a complete rewrite of some other items, accomplish this using the standard AccesDataSource functionality.

Below is a sample of something I've tried to do using "Direction='Output'" on one of the ID field for one of Insert paramaters (source: http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/050207-1.aspx). The plan was to then caputre that "output" using the my "_OnInserted" sub procedue. However, apparantly I'm not able to use this with AccessDataSource. Did some research and saw that I'd have to switch to SqlDataSource which I'd rather not do cause all other pages use AccessDataSource and I'm having problems defining my connection string with it.

Html:

<html>
<body>
<form runat="server" id="Form1" method="post" encType="multipart/form-data">
<asp:FormView runat="server"
id="FormView1"
DataSourceID="DataSourceFormView1"

C# - Assign Delegate Event Handler From Dynamically Added Child Control

Apr 14, 2010

I have a control that handles commenting. In this control, I have set a delegate event handler for sending an email.

I then have various types of controls, e.g. blog, articles etc, each of which may or may not have the commenting control added (which is done dynamically with me not knowing the id's), i.e. the commenting control is added outside this control. Each of these controls handles it's emailing differently(hence the event).

What I'm trying to determine, is how to assign the event in the parent control. At the moment, I'm having to recursively search through all the controls on the page until I find the comment control, and set it that way. Example below explains:

COMMENTING CONTROL

public delegate void Commenting_OnSendEmail();
public partial class Commenting : UserControl
{
public Commenting_OnSendEmail OnComment_SendEmail();
private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if(OnComment_SendEmail != null)
{
OnComment_SendEmail();
}
}
}

PARENT CONTROL

public partial class Blog : UserControl
{
private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Commenting comControl = (Commenting)this.FindControl<Commenting>(this);
if(comControl != null)
{
comCtrol.OnComment_SendEmail += new Commenting_OnSendMail(Blog_Comment_OnSendEmail);
}
}
}

EDIT:

The reason I ask is that if I search from this.Page as the initial control, I am worried about time taken to search down the control tree to find it. Each different type of page would be different in how many control it would have. On some testing, it returns back quite quickly the result.

Web Forms :: How To Use AddHandler To Dynamically Assign Events To Dynamically Created Buttons

Feb 14, 2011

I have a website that sales associates access to view account information with clients. S.A's can only view information for accounts that they are tied to. Some clients have more than one account, S.A's can be tied to more than one account, but not all accounts of one client need to be tied to one S.A.

On the account info pages, I have account numbers (dynamically displayed labels) displayed of other accounts that the account client is associated with, which the S.A's can see. I'm modding this so that if the S.A has viewing permissions of any of the other accounts on that list of accounts, that instead of a label being displayed, a button directing them to that account page will display instead. In order for this to work, I have to attach a security function to the button, otherwise the page will blow out on the S.A's.

So I'm running a piece that is displaying a button instead of a label, which is working fine. My problem is when I try to attach the security event to the dynamically displayed buttons. It seems that the page just posts back and doesn't execute my code at all.

On my Page_Load, I'm running this after the buttons and labels are displayed:

For x = 0 to tblAccountList.Rows.Count - 1
'use a try to target the button, use catch to handle if it's instead a label, only one cell per row.
Try
Dim accountLink as Button = tblAccountList.Rows(x).Controls(0)
Addhandler accountLink.Click, AddressOf Me.PermissionViewCheck
Catch ex as InvalidCastException
Continue For
End Try
Next

I don't have any code checking for postbacks or anything like that, but the "PermissionViewCheck" event never fires and just reposts the page.

How To Use Value From Primary Accessdatasource Control As Parameter In Select Query

May 6, 2010

I'm trying to display all orders placed and I have a primary accessdatasource control that has a select query to get the customer information and the orderID. I want to use the orderID value from this first query as a parameter for the secondary accessdatasource control that selects the product information of the products in the order. In plain english, I want to:- select product info from product table where orderID = ?(where ? is the orderID value from the first query)

I have tried the <%#Eval("OrderID")%> but I get a "server tag not well formed" error, but I do get results returned when I just type the order ID in, but obviously every result (order) just contains the same product info...

Dynamically Access User Control Attributes?

Mar 18, 2010

Im trying to create a "user control menu" where links to a page's usercontrols are placed at the top of the page. This will allow me to put several usercontrols on a page and allow the user to jump to that section of the page without scrolling so much. In order to do this, I put each usercontrol in a folder (usercontrols) and gave each control a Description property (<%@ Control Language="C#" Description = "Vehicles" .... %>).

My question is how can I access this description dynamically? I want to use this description as the link in my menu. So far, I have a foreach on my page that looks in the ControlCollection for a control that is of the ASP.usercontrols type. If it is I would assume that I could access its attributes and grab that description property. How can I do this? (Im also open to a better way to achieve my "user control menu", but maybe thats another question.) Should I use ((System.Web.UI.UserControl)mydynamiccontrol).Attributes.Keys?

Jquery - Access A Dynamically Created Control Through Javascript?

Sep 25, 2010

I've a JavaScript function in my page through which i make some elements in the page as 'JQuery UI droppable'.

function setDroppableTargets()
{
$(.cssDockZone).droppable();
}

But the elements with the class cssDockZone is created dynamically upon user interaction. So in the code behind i create the control first and finally at the end i register a scriptblock which calls setDroppableTargets().

//set droppable targets ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.GetType(), "setDroppableTargets", "setDroppableTargets()", true);

But the javascript function is invoked before the controls are created eventhough i register the script at the end (after creating the controls) and i cross checked it by getting the elements with class name '.cssDockZone' and i getting it as 0.

$(.cssDockZone).length

Web Forms :: Unable To Access A Dynamically Created User Control

Feb 10, 2010

I have a dynamically created address user control (on a customer administration screen) that is created through the use of a place holder. A customer can have multiple addresses, so they dynamically dropped onto the page.

I have got this far, but now I need to be able to save the updated addresses for the customer but I can't get any event to fire on the user controls. When I check to see run plhAddress.HasControls() it returns false?

The way I am generating the user controls is as follows.. private UserControl LoadControl(string UserControlPath, params object[] constructorParameters)

How To Dynamically Assign A BackColor To A GridView Row

Nov 29, 2010

I'm working on an ASP.Net page containing a GridView, which is populated with customer orders returned by a stored procedure. What I'd like to do is dynamically change the backcolor of the GridView rows to indicate priority.

The stored procedure returns an integer indicating the records priority, I think I just need to translate the integer to a color, then make the GridView row display it.

The "making the GridView row display it" part is the one that's giving me a hard time.

What's the best way to do this?
