Access :: Retrieve Multiple Photos Stored In Db?
Mar 22, 2011
I currently have a table with 3 columns : inscription-number, photo-number, photo-url. A single inscription number can have multiple photos. I am using a querystring for the inscription number but when I want to retrieve the photos I am not able to retrieve any other photos than the first one.
As an example my table looks like this:
inscription photo-number photo-url
8366777 1 photo3456433.jpg
8366777 2 photo4654454.jpg
8366777 3 photo4799546.jpg
4679988 1 photo4785864.jpg
4679988 2 photo4125627.jpg
Now my query string is for the inscription field, so if my query is for 8366777, then i want to be able to display all 3 photos for that inscription, right now I'm only able to display the first one, how can I display the other two? Also the number of photos per inscription is never the same so I want to be able to display all the photos for that inscription.

what is the recommended data access strategy for the following environment: single stored procedure, many parameters, asp.net 4.0, sql server 2008, and the stored proc returns 11 different recordsets, all of which get displayed in various different elements too complex and specific to be handled by server controls.

I'm amazed that it took me minutes to figure out how to retrieve text from a specific SQL database record and display it on my aspx page using FormView---and yet days later I still can't figure out how to retrieve/display the corresponding database image...(I feel like I went to a fast food restaurant, received my burger and drink in minutes---but for the fries I'm told to leave the restaurant, drive to another county, and search for the granite boulder under which I am to find the next clue in the quest to get my fries.
I don't want to waste anybody's time---I do see that this issue has come up here before (but each solution seems more complicated than the previous one): clearest way (or your favorite past thread on this topic) to retrieve/display/edit binary image data using FormView?

I have a situation where I am accessing a database multiple times and I'm wondering if it is necessary.
I have a GridView with a template column with a hyperlink to "Get Results" and on the RowDataBound event I have it check the batch number against the database and see if results exist and then if they don't, hide the link.
So when viewing the page if there is 20 rows in the gridview it is effectively doing 20 queries.
I was wondering if it is a better idea to query the database once with all "batches" and load it into a datatable, then on the RowDataBound event query the datatable. The only issue I see with this is there is currently 40,000 batches and grows daily.

I'm planning to make a page that has about 10 different pages for varying use, for example, stats, data entry, reports, logistics, audit, sales, promo, etc etc. I'm anticipating there will be many combinations as to what pages a user may have access to, for each page, a user ought to be authorized to either enter new data, edit data, print and/or just view.
My questions are :
1. can membership & roles be used, once user is logged in, to display links to all the areas of the web app he is allowed access to?
[code]....
2. besides having access to a particular page, a user should, as mentioned before, be authorized to either enter new, edit, print and/or just view data.
3. Is there a preferred/better method to handle this besides using membership & roles?

I am using a CheckBoxList in order for the user to select multiple items:
<td>
Shift Preference:(Multiple Selections Permitted)<br />
<asp:CheckBoxList ID="shiftPreferenceList" SelectionMode="Multiple" runat="server">
<asp:ListItem Value="">None</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="1st Shift">1st Shift</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="2nd Shift">2nd Shift</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="3rd Shift">3rd Shift</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Weekends">Weekends</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Overtime">Overtime</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Holidays">Holidays</asp:ListItem>
</asp:CheckBoxList>
</td>
I need to read the value(s) chosen in code behind in order to execute a sql statement:
SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyDB"].ConnectionString);
connection.Open();
//Need to insert checked items into table
string sql = "Insert into shiftTable (ID, preference) values (" + id.text + ", " + shiftPreferenceList.selectedValue.toString() + ")
How would I iterate through the multiple selections and insert all checked values?
