View 2 RepliesI make a user control with DataList to expose pagining . I choose to use ViewState to save the state of pagining (TotalItems , CurentPage etc) , but it seems the view state of the parent page is not "synchronized" with the one from user control . It's basically the same situation like the example :
I have a dummy user control :
"<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="WebUserControl.ascx.cs" Inherits="WebUserControl" %>"
and the code -behind
"public partial class WebUserControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)[code]...
The question is, why do I have to click twice to get the right result ...3 . I mean at the first click I still get the value 0 .
I have a bit of javascript that presents a modal to the user with the rest of the page "grayed out." Pretty common these days. The modal allows you to specify a URL which then uses AJAX to serve and display. What I need is that when the control posts back, it posts back to the parent page, not the modal page. To attempt this, I used javascript to alter the target of the modal page's form element to the parent page's URL. When I try this I get the following error:
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.
This is done locally and as of now, the app will never be on a cluster. I think this has to do with the validation process and .NET doesn't like that I've changed the target. Anyone know a way around this? I really need this to work how I described.
I have an aspx (parent) that call ShowModalDialog another aspx (child). and on the child, i close the windows using script
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Page.GetType(), "reloadpage", "var link;link=window.opener.location.href;window.opener.location.href=link;self.close();", true);
The child window close, go back to parent window, and reload the page and no confirmation box to refresh the page, working as expected. but all my previous entry to the screen is gone. how to retrieve it back or any work around?
I have been getting this error a lot lately with some of my users, and I had a couple of concerns with view state and I have read so many articles but I am still lost..
1. I use masterpage on all the pages and I need viewstate for some of the pages but..
There is a page where a user will fill out the information and then submit this data to a cgi server, and it is where I get most of the Client Disconnected errors, what would happen if I disable viewstate when they click on that button?
Now when a user browses from one page to another, does the view state from the previous page get deleted? If not how would I delete it?
Does the master page have its own viewstate? Would I be able to make sure none of items on my master page are using the viewstate?
I have a shopping cart page (Cart.aspx) that has a button that will (sometimes) post to a third party payment gateway, if payment is necessary. The payment gateway will process the payment and then do a silent post to my website (Order.aspx) so I can update the order status.
Order.aspx always throws an invalid viewstate error, even though viewstate is disabled on the page.
What's happening is that Cart.aspx (which has viewstate enabled) posts to the payment gateway, and the gateway will post it back as part of the silent post. Even though Order.aspx has viewstate disabled and validation disabled, it still tries to validate the __viewstate field it's being given.
I know setting EnableViewState=false will disable the rendering of the __viewstate field, but if another page provides the field, shouldn't it still skip validation? I tried calling ViewState.Clear() on the Page_Init event of Order.aspx, but ViewState is apparently empty. how to get around this? I don't want to disable ViewState on Cart.aspx (in some cases it may be necessary), but I can't figure out how to clear it on Order.aspx.
I want to write own control which can contain other. And I want to define content of the control in the .aspx file where the control is defined. I have written such control. But now I have issue with ViewState of inner controls of my control. The following samle illustrates the issue: I defined two asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" and ID="ddl2" One of them is inside of my control and other is outside. When posback is occurred asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1 loses state and becomes empty. How to say ASP.net to store state of inner controls defined by this way?
MyControl.ascx:
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="MyControl.ascx.cs" Inherits="DynamicControls.Controls.MyControl" %>
<div class="box"> [code]....
What ASP.NET page lifecycle event can I write code in to determine the size of the viewstate that being sent out? Also, is it possible to determine the size without parsing through the rendered HTML (like a property on the page object) or is parsing the only way?
What I'd like to do is log the sizes, specifically if they cross a certain threshold.
I have created one user control for changing the theme of the page where i have several buttons and on click of each button i am applying the theme of clicked buttons color and for that i have created several css files like red.css, blue.css , green.css etc.
now i want to apply this theme to the page but i am not able to do that from the user control as because i am not getting the stylesheet property in the page and thus i am not able to work further.
can anyone tell me how can i apply the theming from user control to the page its being called.?
I open a pop up page(child page) by using jquery(jquery.colorbox.js) in asp.net application. now when I click on search button I want to close the pop up page(child page) and refresh the UpdatePanel1 by using search parameters. for above I need to execute server side function in parent page. code to close pop up:
child.aspx:
<script>

I have a parent page with two data controls. I want to be able to open a child window, do something on it, and when it closes I want to rebind only one of the two data controls on the parent page. I have the control I want to update within an UpdatePanel so would like to call rebind it and call UpdatePanel.Update().
View 2 RepliesWhen a button/link is clicked, I want this URL to be called followed by the execution of the following statements. The ASP.Net page is in C# btw.
Function A
statement A
call abc.apsx
statement B
abc.aspx is a silent page, doesn't display anything on the page but creates an output.txt file. So when abc.aspx is called, output.txt file is created and Statement B is executed seamlessly.
I am in little confusion to send date from second page that is Calander.aspx to the Page from where it has been called.The confusion is that the following code is in the Calander.aspx:
[Code]....
In Parent page, the textbox is in formview and there is an image when we click it the above code activated and gets the date using above line of code and sends back to the parent page from where it is called.The confusion is that if this calandar is in other pages therefore do I have to add the following line of code in the above MyDateChange() function for each page textbox or there are more then one textbox to take date as input in same page?
window.opener.document.getElementById("ctl00$MainContent$frmInsert$Survey_dateTextBox").value=document.getElementById("TextBox").value;
So how above function will recognise that from which page the request coming or to which text box it has to send the data?
Now here is the weird thing. First i am running it locally on the built in vs2008 web server.I load my control in fine, do a postback from a linkbutton, locally on my machine it all works fine, no issue.However when it goes onto my host, it falls over with the message:
Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request.Now i also load controls dynamically and use postbacks and things in the admin area of the site...and that works fine, however my front end just keeps failing? See the code behing below:
[Code]....
In parent page there is an imagebutton. What I want to when user click this image button, another page will open with width=200 and height=100 with no toolbar.

View 2 RepliesI have a webform named Default.aspx and in it an iFrame...
The iFrame will load one of a few different pages/forms/aspx... (for this example lets just say its test.aspx)
On test.aspx I have 2 buttons Button1 and Button2 If I have code in my test.aspx.vb for Button1 click of:
button2.text = "hello world"
it looks as if it reloads test.aspx inside the iFrame and sure enough Button2 states "hello world"
So now lets say on the Default.aspx I also have a button and its named Button5.
How would I go about updating the Button5.Text from with in the vb code of Button1 click/vb code located on Test.aspx
I have looked over some other post [URL] and the tell of using "PreviousPage" but that not seam to be what I need, I want to be able to state the page/form I want to effect a control on it...
I know how to do this in jut standard VB.net (not web) its like:
FromName.ControleName.Text = "Hello World" but then again in VB.net windows apps you dont have Iframse to deal with...

View 3 RepliesI have a listbox containing a list of the datas In the child page. Now, if a user selects a multiple number of the items of the listbox, i have to pass all of them through the session.
So, i want to create an array in the child page and pass the values in the session and in the form of an array to the parent page.
I have to disable our parent page(Complete gray out and non functioning) when child page is loaded. Once I close child page then I could perform any action at my parent page.
I can not use Div at my parent page because it may be many page so i have to controlled it from child page only.
In the parent page i'm displaying all the user details and one of the detail is the list of accessible clients in a list box. the clients can be removed or added using the add or remove images next to the list box.
Clicking on the Add image will show you the list of available clients in a new page(child) and also showing currently available clients to the user with checked status.
Let me explain how the available clients for the user is displayed in the child page. In the parent page load on the 'Add' image 'OnClientClick' i'm passing the ClientId of a hidden field in which all the selected clients for a user is stored.
The problem i'm facing here is when i altered the selected clients in the child page and clicking on the OK button will change the value of the listbox in parent page using the clientID of the listbox which i'm passing, but if i once again click the 'Add' button it shows the original values which is stored at the time of parent page load. The problem is i'm not doing any postback here so that the original values registered during 'OnClientClick'of 'Add' button is not altered.
