View 1 RepliesI want to create small ecommerce site with sign up and log in pages. there are two categories jeans and T- shirt
I want to create category pages and product pages but I dont understand how to form tables in database means exactly how
many tables required for this application and how all tables are connected to each other ( how to make relationship in tables)
when particular user sign in and select particular pages how it will added in his cart.
I am using the Visual Studio 2010 Express to create a web site.I created a database using SQL Express,but I decided to copy the mdf file to App_Data folder thinking I then might not need SQL Server running.I used the connection string that points to the database file in App_Data.
I deployed it to the server (Windows 2000 server with .Net 2.0 and SQL Server 2000) using Copy Web Site.I got the following error.An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.When connecting to SQL Server 2005,this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.(provider: SQL Network Interfaces,error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
My questions are
1. Do I still need SQL Server running even if I used a database in App_Data?
2. On the server SQL Server 2000 is running,why does the error say SQL Server 2005?
3. Are there anything that I have to consider beyond the version of Framework when deploying after development with VS 2010 (Framework 4.0)?
I have a blog and my site has sitemap for google webmastertools. If my blog has 200 posts , how many should I place in the sitemap for google indexing, all, top 10, top 50 ??

View 2 RepliesWhenever I use TransmitFile to send a file, the sirte becomes blocked to the user until the file completes. IOW, the user cannot navigate the site.If the user cancels the transfer, it still blocks until the site either times out OR finishes sending the data. I can't tell which, but I know if for example I cancel a 30MB file immediately after starting the download, it takes longer to recover than a 10 MB file.Here is the relevant code:
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", contdisp);
Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", new FileInfo(fullfilename).Length.ToString());
Response.TransmitFile(fullfilename);
Response.Flush();
I have created a blog application with ASP.NET MVC and MSSQL. I must say, i really enjoyed the process of creating an application with ASP.NET MVC. Clean URLS(with URL routing), No view States and so on.
BUT i was wondering how would this would have been done if i choose web-form style coding? will the aspx would be created in the fly as i create a article.(take this url for ex: [URL]) though the URL is not clean but still makes sense. if yes then what about its corresponding cs file? if no how is the URL so clean?
Is there a way to create a blog using asp.net 3.5 in Microsoft Visual Web developer 2008 or 2010? Also, how do I make commenting, replying and posting only available to the user of my website?
View 9 RepliesI'm looking for a blogging site to host my ASP.Net/C# (and possibly other web related programming) technical blog - where should I create such blog?
BTW, it's a shame that SO does not offer blogging services.
Note: I would create it on [URL], but it requires to be a highly active member on their site.
I need to create a simple blog feature for my website. I have created a form that writes to an XML File, i now need to be able to display this file in a blog style, and possible add comments.

View 1 RepliesI am just planning to create a blog type of web application. But i am not understanding how do i rewrite url's? say suppose site is xyz.com then when some user registers with name of T then he can visit blog at T.xyz.com? As you can see the url's will keep on changing dynamically.
I don't want to keep creating sub domains for each new user joined on the site. How can i achieve this?
I'm an ASP.NET newbie, but not so new at programming in general.
I'm creating a commercial website, and I want to allow an admin to add new articles (an article consists of text, images and various properties such as category).
I am trying to decide the optimal Modus Operandi. This site is commercial, so SEO is a major consideration. This means that I want each url to be "unique". That is, if someone navigates to an article about raccoons, he should be redirected to [URL]. This means - I can't have one page that loads the appropriate article dynamically a-la AJAX (gotta use deep-linking)
So how exactly do I do this? suppose the admin entered his text, uploaded the images and set the article properties. I create a new subfolder, save the images to the server (I understand that saving images to a DB is a big no-no), their addresses in a DB, and the content itself to the DB. But now what?
How do I go about creating the actual page?
Is there a function for creating a new aspx file? then what about its corresponding cs file? Or is it unwise to use aspx? Maybe plain html? but then how does it work with my site's master page? Or maybe just create another copy of a general aspx file which is populated with an article according to a parameter?
I am try to create architecture design for WCF service.
We have WCF service that we have to expose to third party so then can request with xml and get back xml response.
The wcf service should do the following:
- Accept the request call with xml
- Check xml against the schema
- Parse the xml
- Authenticate the incoming xml by username and password that will be in xml
- Send back the response
If anybody can let me know what kind of design I can use or is there any pattern available that I can take it and then extend it as per my requirement.
I want to write a page where user's can write a blog post and publish it to the blog. I've downloaded blog engine .NET and looked at the code and I like the way they do it, but it's completely an overkill of what I need. What I need is only a title, author, date, and the blog post it self. I don't even want users to post comments or anything like that. My approach is to save all those blog post information into an xml and then when a page loads it loops around those xml files to show the blog post.
View 1 RepliesI was wondering, if I create a page e.g. index.aspx and I create it's contents based on a variable, would an AdSense block always show the same ad? Meaning is there a way to give it a dynamic content and having the ad addept to the content without creating a page for each content.For example I have a site with 3 links: pears, apples and lemons. I have a database which has the content of each page. I have a dynamic page index.aspx which modifies it's content based on the clicked link (the link always returns to index.aspx). If I want an ad to match my content, should I then do it differently? Like creating pages for each link and adding the content to each page dynamicly based on the link or something?
View 1 RepliesWhen we double click to page It creates an empty Page_Load event codeblock automatically. Or you know can create other control's event subroutine events by clicking the relevant event in properties window.
but how can we create a Page_Init ? is there an automatic way ? or should we just write its name and parametes manually is the only way ?
I was tasked to create 3 tier web application. However, i browsed through many books & tutorials. The examples are doing it using Object data source which my lecturers claimed that it is not 3 tier at all. Shouldn't be dragging any data source into deisgn view. Any comprehensive examples for me to take reference from?

View 2 RepliesI have menu item on my master page that has block around the text when the page is first run. I wrote in the css on the link and visited property to change the color to match the image color that it is on. When a menu item is clicked the color changes to the right color. How do I get it to the right color on when the page first opens or is there a way to get rid of the block or make it transperant?
