Mar 15, 2010Following is my case in detail.I have a class against which I will configure an objectDatasource(I have a datatable in the class which the data will be initially loaded from the database.)A gridview which has provisions to add/update/delete records will be bound to the objectdatasource
My methods i.e. insert/update/delete will be manipulating the datatable and NOT the database directly(I DONT WANT TO CONNECT TO THE DATABASE IN THESE STEPS. THE REASON IS THAT THE INSERTS/UPDATES/DELETES WILL BE PERSISTED ONLY WHEN THE USER CLICKS A SAVE BUTTON(MAY BE PLACED OUTSIDE THE GRID) . My class to which the objectDatasource points to will have anadditional AcceptChanges method which will be called on clicking the save button. This method is the one which connects to the database and where the adapter.update will be called.The query here is that how do I call the AcceptChanges method of my class instance which is bound to the grid? Also I would like to get some websites where I can see the real world implementations of gridview(with insert/update/delete options) so that I can improve my implementation.

Jun 8, 2010I need to build a system which needs to show data on almost near real time basis from a MSMQ data source and this sould be showin in image with a circle as to where the incident occurs.
This is the description given.
The position of the Incident relative to the 123 mark is requested to be represented on a circular concentration diagram .
The algorithm will have to export the location of each incident relative to the 123 mark in polar coordinates (r,θ) and translate this position to the 'master image' coordinate system that will display Incident location.
I have two questions.
1. How can i show the data in an Image and also please point me to any material which might help me with the same.
2. How do i show almost real time data from a MSMQ data source and also how do i architect the same for performance.

Jan 24, 2011I'm trying to build an app that simulates "real time" playing, but without Peer to peer. OK so I have a front end built in flash and a back end built in .NET. My concern is that my flash calls a .NET web service every second to check for events in the databasrelated to the specific user in the session. I've seen other scenarios that make posts to the sever every second to have a really precise control... like Bwin casino games.So... Would this have a huge impact on the server? Users bandwich? What the call to the webservice does is check a table in MySQL database to see if there are any events related to the user, and if there are, I get the information and render in flash... Such as new online users, messages, challenges, news ... etc.

Jan 11, 2010So I started working on my first asp.net application that involves logging in and databases, and soon after i started messing around with a static class. I "discovered" that if you make a variable static, all sessions share that variable (I for some reason was originally assuming that each session had its own copy of that "static" class). Anyway, after discovering this I thought to myself "how could this possibly be useful to me" and thought that itmight be a good idea to make a single static database connection for all of the sessions, rather than storing that as a session variable for each session. Does anybody know what would be the pros and cons of this approach?

So, at least I haven't completely misunderstood that. I am unsure exactly how I am to write a method that accepts a generic collection of classes that conform to the same interface.
I have a plan to completely hack around this problem if need be, but I would really prefer to do it properly.

Aug 12, 2010What my clients are used to: VB6 app running locally - can produce reports and labels directly to printers. How do I take that same user now in a web page and have them get that same report or label sent to a printer? Do I need to make a little VB6 or VB.Net app that sits locally to receive the DATASET and perform the print formatting? I should mention that all the print formatting information is in a table in the DB anyway. Or do I need to make PDF's or some other kind of document format on the server and send that to the user from the webpage.

Mar 28, 2011I've been a VB programmer for years, and friend asked me to write a program that does data storage and is executable from PC & MAC browsers. It seems like I need ASP.NET for this, so I tried to write a server-side 'hello world' ASP.NET program. I did this using VWD 2010 Express, and after successfully 'building' the website, it works great if I view it on the development machine. But when I copy it to my web server (running on a Windows XP Tablet machine) and try to view default.aspx, instead of getting a nicely-formatted page, my browser (IE8) is displaying the HTML source code. I tried hosting the site on both Apache and IIS , and I'm getting the same results.
1. What am I doing wrong?
2. Is ASP.NET the best platform for building a database-based application that can be viewed from both PC's and Macs? If so, should this work from iPads / Safari as well?
