Are There Any Guidance Resources Available In Regards To Error Handling INSIDE Of HttpModules
Jan 27, 2011
I attempted to find any information in regards to best practices of handling errors inside of a HttpModule unfortunately I can't seem to find any information on Google in regards to this.
All the information I've found all pertains in how to use the global.asax or a custom http module to log errors which is completely not pertinent.
Edit: Clearly this question has been misunderstood. I am seeking information regarding software patterns that are employed to prevent a HttpModules from faulting, triggering custom errors redirection, and faulting again causing infinite exception chains until IIS shuts down the thread entirely.
This however is very nontrivial since the HttpSessionState collection can't be depended on for the life cycle of HttpModules. Since error conditions have already occurred it would be improper to expect that I could read the ASP.NET session cookie to get an identifier that I could store user specific data in the application cache. Storing data in the HttpRequest.Items collection would be pointless since that in no way exists across multiple requests.
When a server error occurs for whatever reasons (YSOD), the server will send a message via SMTP class. In my case, my company employs microsoft exchange and uses NTLM authentication for all domain users. I am authenticating users via NTLA windows integrated authentication. My question is, is it possible to utilize this authentication data, and pass it to the system.web SMTP username/password authentication scheme to send an email to me (the web developer) when the error occurs? I am pretty sure my company requires a username/pwd to send emails via SMPT on the ms exchange server.
I have a User Control which consists of a TextBox with a few extras, but for purposes of this example just assuming it's a plain TextBox will be sufficient. I am calling this User Control from a Web Form and would like to be able to use a RequiredFieldValidator that basically would function the same as if I used it on a TextBox on the web form. How do I configure my User Control to handle this?
EDIT:
DatePicker.ascx <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="myControlTB"> DatePicker.ascx.cs [ValidationProperty("Text")] public partial class DatePicker : System.Web.UI.UserControl
I am currently localizing my MVC website, using the Html.Encode method.
I've got a global resouce named "Localization" and using it by e.g. <%= Html.Encode(Resources.Localization.FirstName) %>
When compiled and viewing in the browser it works perfectly, but in VS 2008 Development Edition it marks it red and displays Cannot resolve symbol 'Resources' when hovering it.
i used differnet different culture global resource files in my project. in the local host myapplication run perfectly but if in the live(web) it raises below error.i dont why this error is comingServer Error in '/' Application.
I am trying to catch an event that is in a user control inside a master page contentholder and refresh the content page. I am having a hard time finding a good example. Even on this site I am timing out on search.
I'm trying to create a web server control with a css embedded in the assembly.
I marked it as an embedded resource, add assembly attribute to reference it and use the proper methods to include the link to that
css in html code... my page renders ok witk something like <link href='/WebResources.axd?....' />
That's when the problem appears! My control isn't using the css as it appears to not found webResources.axd
I tried directly in web browser to locate http://locahost/mysite/WebResources.axd and it came with http code 404 NOT FOUND
In my IIS i have uncheked "Verify if file exists" on my extensions mapping related to .axd I add HEAD verb in Web.Config to path WebResources.axd and the result is always the same
I'm making changes to some xxx.resources files on our web server, everytime I try and copy the new file out to the server I keep getting the error:
'the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.'
I get this for about 20 minutes or so after I check the web site. Is there another way to update/copy the xxx.resources file on the web server without waiting 20 minutes or so to do so?
I have a user control called ucTriStateButton. It raises an event when it is clicked, called TriStateButtonClicked. If I put this user control on a page, it works fine. Here is the declaration on the .aspx page:
[Code]....
When the button is clicked the method tsbTest_TriStateButtonClicked executes correctly.
The problem is when I put the user control in template field of a GridView.
[Code]....
There is no way to hook the event handler to the control in Page_Load because I cannot get a reference to tsbMorning. So I did it in the RowDataBound event handler of the GridView, where I also do a bunch of other row-specific stuff. Although this builds and runs, the event is never actually subscribed to and so never gets fired.
So the question is - how can I handle an event from many instances of the same user control within a GridView? I am calling the same bit of code regardless of which user control is actually clicked. I only need to know that one was clicked.
I just upgraded my blog [URL] to BlogEngine 1.6.1 (from 1.6.0) in order to use the reCaptcha extension. I upgraded my local code from 1.6.0 to 1.6.1, then published via FTP through WebMatrix. After the upgrade, I am getting this error:
Compiler Error Message: CS0433: The type 'Resources.labels' exists in both 'c:windowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files oot9fd92f8745a2ba06assemblydl3a64307f6f14811b8_0291cb01App_GlobalResources.DLL' and 'c:windowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files oot9fd92f8745a2ba06App_GlobalResources.md7pit6m.dll'
The source file and line number where it breaks varies, but it is always the same basic message. What differs is the "md7pt66m" section of the App_GlobalResources.md7pit6m.dll (the second file path in the error message). I was able to fix the error locally by deleting the Temporary ASP.NET Files, but I can't do this on my hosting server (GoDaddy). Is there something I can do to fix the error? Based on suggestions from the codeplex discussion page, I have edited web.config file in order to cycle the app pool, and renamed BlogEngine.Core.dll to BlogEngine.Core2.dll and then back in order to restart the blog. I have also added batch="false" to the <compilation> tag in web.config (based on this post). I have turned custom errors off, so you can see the error on my site now.
public class LowerCaseRequest : IHttpModule { public void Init(HttpApplication context) { context.BeginRequest += new EventHandler(this.OnBeginRequest);
[Code]....
It works grate on my PC running XP and IIS 5.1
but on my webserver running IIS7 and WS 2008 dosn't works.
I recently started learning about HttpModules and made my first one. I was wondering if someone could explain why some modules in the the web.config include a lot of extra info and others do not.
i am new to using AJAX.I am using Visual Web Developer 2010 and I followed all the steps given on the http://www.asp.net/ajaxlibrary/act.ashx website to install AJAX.However, when I try to run my website,I get an error:
"Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "AjaxControlToolkit.Properties.Resources.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "AjaxControlToolkit" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed."
I have all my errors handling up and going but now I wish to change the error messages that they display for empty integers.I have been going through my codes but I can't to change that. For now, the error message for all numeric values are "A values is required" and I wish to change it to "<TextBoxName> cannot be empty".
I'm developing my 1st MVC app using nerddinner as sample, appreciated approach. but when I come to handling error in Edit Post action using a partial class of Entitie2(include the FK) and adding roleviolations to a propertie it work just I don't know how I could validate input for a propertie in the other Entite(N:1)?

I want to do a bulk insert of data from a tab-seperated file into a MSSQL database using Linq to SQL. I have put all the inserts lined up on InsertAllOnSubmit(). Now, can anyone tell me if an exception occurs in one of the inserts, do the previous inserts rollback or the process stops or it skips that insert?
Does it make sense to do error handling and logging inside actions methods or handle the OnException method inside the controllers. One way means writing try/catches in all the action methods even when there is nothing to be done to recover from the error. Handling this at the controller level would allow logging and redirection to an error handler page without writing try/catches inside all the action methods.
Which method makes the most sense? Here is example code of try/catches in an action method.
[HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(int id) {[code]...
