Custom Server Controls :: Error - Embedded Resources Not Found
Jan 22, 2010
I'm trying to create a web server control with a css embedded in the assembly.
I marked it as an embedded resource, add assembly attribute to reference it and use the proper methods to include the link to that
css in html code... my page renders ok witk something like <link href='/WebResources.axd?....' />
That's when the problem appears! My control isn't using the css as it appears to not found webResources.axd
I tried directly in web browser to locate http://locahost/mysite/WebResources.axd and it came with http code 404 NOT FOUND
In my IIS i have uncheked "Verify if file exists" on my extensions mapping related to .axd I add HEAD verb in Web.Config to path WebResources.axd and the result is always the same

I am creating a custom server control, and I am wanting to include a JavaScript file in the dll file when the control is built. I have tried suggestions from the following websites:[URL] But after following the directions, If I use firebug to see what errors show up, the JavaScript functions that are being called all say "goNext is not defined" which leads me to believe the JavaScript file is not being added correctly.
Some information on what my control looks like
I have the JavaScript File in a folder called Script. The namespace of the project is CustomControl, and the Name of the project is MaskedDateTextbox.
In my AssemblyInfo I have the following:
<Assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")>

Am building a custom controls that requires a jQuery plugin. It's related JS file is supposed to be registered just before </body> tag. I have this JS file as an embedded resource. So i tried RegisterClientScriptResource method of ClientScriptManager but there is no way of specifying where to register the script. Is there anyway i can achieve it.

I'm having a dumb problem that is killing me. I have created the simpelest custom server control in VS 2008 c# called MyMsgBox. On the ASP page I put it in and register it. But, in the .cs file, when I try to call one of its functions I get the compile error that it is not found. The funny thing is that intellesense has it in the list and all of the functions with their given arguements. At the top of the .cs file I am using the namespace. The code for the custom server control is in the App_Code folder.
Also when I remove all refrences to its functions, the code compiles and when debugging the constructor for the class MyMsgBox gets hit.
<%@ Register TagPrefix="cc1" Namespace="CustomServerControls" %>
...
<cc1:MyMsgBox ID="msgBox1" runat="server" />
Task.aspx.cs
...
Using CustomServerControls;
...
this.msgBox1.confirm("Would You Like to add a new Task for this PO/Contract? ", "hid_f"); Error Message: 'Tasks' does not contain a definition for 'msgBox1' and no extension method 'msgBox1' accepting a first argument of type 'Tasks' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

I have created a custom required textbox control. In this control's preinit event i load a css file. Alle css and images are inside the assambly. When i use my custom control on a page the control loads fine and also the css and images are loaded. Validation of the control occures when i click the validate button. So this works perfect. But now i want to use my control in the following senario: I have a grid in an update panel. When i select a record in the datagrid i show a panel in a second updatepanel. Inside this panel i have my custom required textbox control.
The following is happening: I select a record and the panel will be made visible. The custom required textbox control is visible, but the build-in css is not loaded. As a test i have created a new testpage. On this testpage i have put my custom required textboxes in an updatepanel the css is loaded fine. So when my controls are in a panel inside a updatepanel and i set the panel to visible, the css is not loaded.

My Composite control implements IScriptControl interface.
ScriptReferences java script file does the client-side work, there I want to load a html file inside iFrame.
The Html file is an embedded resource:
([assembly: System.Web.UI.WebResource("Control.Resources.list.htm", "text/html")])
I pass the path of the html to the javascript file via descriptor property:
IEnumerable<ScriptDescriptor> IScriptControl.GetScriptDescriptors()
{
descriptor.AddProperty("iframe", iframe);
return new ScriptDescriptor[] { descriptor };
}
Where iframe is a string that contains the path from the webresource.
Now, in this html file I want to display few images that must be also loaded from resource.
The Question is how to access the resources from this html file?
Do I have to pass every image path as descriptor property?

I am trying to create a basichttpbinding with custom validator. I create a self signed cert in IIS @ 443.
My endpoint in service config looks like this
[Code]....
The service is running fine (I can see it in browser).
In the client, I am setting client credentials and then accessing a method but at this point i get the following exception
There was no endpoint listening at [code].... that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action
The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

I have successfully created my own virtual path provider to load a user control embedded in an assembly. The problem I am facing is I cannot use any embedded string resource in MyUserControl.ascx:
<Label runat="server" ID="MyLabel" Text="<%Resources: SR, Welcome%>"/>
This will cause IIS to throw a compilation exception at runtime saying the resource SR.Welcome is not found. I guess ASP.NET runtime looks for the string resource SR in the main assembly instead of the one that contains my user control.

Under Visual Studio 2010, I'm developing an asp.net application. I added a folder to my project called Flash. Under Flash folder I added a swf file with its external resources to run.
The folder content:
1- ScrollingImages.swf file to lunch the flash
2- ScrollingImages.xml file that the swf file uses to read images from thumbnails folder
3-thumbnails folder which content images used by swf file. I can embed the swf file to html easily using this code:
[Code]....
But when I use the same code to embed it to asp.net page I will have a problem that the flash will run but I cannot see the images so the swf file unable to locate the xml file and the folder of the images location and they all in the same folder.Here is the code I used in the aspx.net content page.
[Code]....
I also tested it in aspx.net page and I'm getting same result no images appear. I know that the problem is related to who to embed the swf external resources (the xml file and the images folder) to the aspx.net page but I searched a lot and I could solve it.

Web Application Project Has project reference to Class Library 1 in same Visual Studio 2008 solution Class Library 1 Has project reference to Class Library 2 in same solution Class Library 2 Has a file marked as Build Action: Embedded Resource and Copy to Output Directory: Copy Always
When I build my Web Application Project, the embedded resource in Class Library 2 is NOT copied to the bin directory of the Web Application Project as it should. If I add a project reference directly from my Web Application Project to Class Library 2, the file IS copied to the bin directory. How can I get the embedded resource file to copy without having to add the unnecessary reference?

I currently have a file "abc.htm" in my Custom Server Control Project and it's Build Action is set to Embedded Resource.Now in the RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output) method, I need to read that file and render it on the website.I am trying the following but it's to no avail:
protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output)
{
var providersURL = Page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof (OpenIDSel), "OpenIDSelector.Providers.htm");
var fi = new FileInfo(providersURL); // <- exception here
//the remaining code is to possibly render the file
}
This is an example of how the providersURL is:
/WebResource.axd?d=kyU2OiYu6lwshLH4pRUCUmG-pzI4xDC1ii9u032IPWwUzMsFzFHzL3veInwslz8Y0&t=634056587753507131
FileInfo is throwing System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path.

Not sure why it works if i connect to SQL 2005 on another server, but now that i have SQL Express on the same server as the pages, im getting the following error: I have attached my connection string within my web.config and also how its being called within the code behind. Now this page was written by another programmer some time back.. so not sure if the method he used to do this is the best or only way. But i have connected to other SQL database with other applications with alot less code.

I have created a custom control from scratch and it works fine as in you can build the project that uses it and it works fine at runtime. Problem is when you go to design view the control shows an error in the place of where the control should be rendered.
Error: '<SomeValue>' Could not be set to '<SomeProperty>'
This shows up on all my custom set properties. These properties are created as basic as possible. I can give the properties values in Source view and run the app just fine. I can even add a Onclick event. If I don't set any custom properties the control will render fine in Design view. It's only when I set a value to a custom property.
Property Code Example:
[Code]....
I've even removed the Category and Description tags with no difference.
I don't know if what I said makes sens, but I hope it does.

and have tried the SiteMapDataProvider Tag with and without the SiteMapProvider
attribute.Does anybody have (a) any experience with this, or (b) any suggestions as to how to track down the problem?

I'm making changes to some xxx.resources files on our web server, everytime I try and copy the new file out to the server I keep getting the error:
'the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.'
I get this for about 20 minutes or so after I check the web site. Is there another way to update/copy the xxx.resources file on the web server without waiting 20 minutes or so to do so?

I just got a new windows server 2008 dedicated server and I can't for the life of me get it to serve up web pages. It has every .NET framework installed on it has the web server role added with the ASP.NET feature checked. I made sure that ASP.NET 2 and 4 are allowed in the ISAPI extensions.
Not just aspx pages but even if I create a .html page, it still gives the 404 Not Found error. Also, I should note that it's the basic browser 404 page, it's not making it to the ASP.NET isapi handler. It gives the same 404 both remotely and locally so it's not a firewall or router issue.

I am running this piece of code to get the source code (as string) of my webpage.
The problem is why this function returns 404 error?
Private Function getPageSource(ByVal URL As String) As String
Dim webClient As New System.Net.WebClient()
Dim strSource As String = webClient.DownloadString(URL)
webClient.Dispose()
Return strSource
End Function
